Abstract:We conjecture a lower bound for the minimal canonical height of non-torsion rational points on a natural density 1 subset of the sextic twist family of Mordell curves. We then establish a lower bound that yields a partial result towards this conjecture.

Abstract:We compute a lower bound of the canonical height on quadratic twists of elliptic curves over $\Q$. Also, we show a simple method for constructing families of quadratic twists with an explicit rational point. Using the above lower bound, we show that the explicit rational point is primitive as an element of the Mordell-Weil group.

Abstract: By using analytic method, we prove that there exist rational curves on compact Hermitian manifolds with positive holomorphic bisectional curvature. It confirms a question of S.-T. Yau. It is well-known that Mori proved in \cite{Mori79} that every compact complex manifold $N$ with $c_1(N)>0$ contains at least one rational curve. However, as a borderline example, we show that the standard Hopf surface $S^1\times S^3$ has a Hermitian metric with non-negative holomorphic bisectional curvature (in particular, $c_1(S^1\times S^3)\geq 0$), but it contains no rational curve.

Abstract:We give a dynamical proof of a result of Masser and Zannier [MZ2, MZ3] about torsion points on the Legendre family of elliptic curves. Our methods also treat points of small height. A key ingredient is the arithmetic equidistribution theorem on $\mathbb{P}^1$ of Baker-Rumely, Chambert-Loir, and Favre-Rivera-Letelier. Torsion points on the elliptic curve coincide with preperiodic points for the degree-4 Lattes family of rational functions. Our main new results concern properties of the bifurcation measures for this Lattes family associated to marked points.
Rational points on del Pezzo surfaces of low degree

Abstract:We give upper bounds for the number of rational points of bounded anti-canonical height on del Pezzo surfaces of degree at most five over any global field whose characteristic is not equal to two or three. For number fields these results are conditional on a conjecture relating the rank of an elliptic curve to its conductor, while they are unconditional in positive characteristic. For quartic or quintic del Pezzo surfaces with a conic bundle structure, we establish even stronger estimates unconditionally as long as the characteristic is not two.

Abstract:In 1922, Mordell conjectured that the set of rational points on a smooth curve $C$ over $\mathbb{Q}$ with genus $g \ge 2$ is finite. This has been proved by Faltings in 1983. However, Coleman determined in 1985 an upper bound of $#C(\mathbb{Q})$ by following Chabauty's approach which considers the special case when the Jacobian variety of $C$ has Mordell-Weil rank $< g$. In 2006, Stoll improved the Coleman's bound. Balakrishnan with her co-authors in [1] implemented the Chabauty-Coleman method to compute the rational points of genus $3$ hyperelliptic curves. Then, Hashimoto and Morrison [8] did the same work for Picard curves. But it happens that this work has not yet been done for all genus 3 curves. In this paper, we describe an algorithm to compute the complete set of rational points $C(\mathbb{Q})$ for any genus $3$ curve $C/\mathbb{Q}$ that is a degree-$2$ cover of a genus $1$ curve whose Jacobian has rank $0$. We implemented this algorithm in Magma, and we ran it on approximately $40, 000$ curves selected from databases of plane quartics and genus $3$ hyperellitic curves. We discuss some interesting examples, and we exhibit curves for which the number of rational points meets the Stoll's bound

Abstract:Abstract Bounding the number of rational points of height at most $H$ on irreducible algebraic plane curves of degree $d$ has been an intense topic of investigation since the work by Bombieri and Pila. In this paper we establish optimal dependence on $d$ by showing the upper bound $C d^{2} H^{2/d} (\log H)^{\kappa }$ with some absolute constants $C$ and $\kappa $. This bound is optimal with respect to both $d$ and $H$, except for the constants $C$ and $\kappa $. This answers a question raised by Salberger, leading to a simplified proof of his results on the uniform dimension growth conjectures of Heath-Brown and Serre, and where at the same time we replace the $H^{\varepsilon }$ factor by a power of $\log H$. The main strength of our approach comes from the combination of a new, efficient form of smooth parametrizations of algebraic curves with a century-old criterion of Pólya, which allows us to save one extra power of $d$ compared with the standard approach using Bézout’s theorem.

Abstract:We prove Manin's conjecture for split smooth quintic del Pezzo surfaces over arbitrary number fields with respect to fairly general anticanonical height functions. After passing to universal torsors, we first show that we may restrict the torsor variables to their typical sizes, and then we can solve the counting problem in the framework of o-minimal structures.

Abstract:Let s be a special point on a Shimura variety, and x a pre-image of s in a fixed fundamental set of the associated Hermitian symmetric domain. We prove that the height of x is polynomially bounded with respect to the discriminant of the centre of the endomorphism ring of the corresponding Z-Hodge structure. Our bound is the final step needed to complete a proof of the Andre-Oort conjecture under the conjectural lower bounds for the sizes of Galois orbits of special points, using a strategy of Pila and Zannier.

Heights of Special Points on Quaternionic Shimura Varieties

Abstract:Let $B/F$ be a quaternion algebra over a totally real number field. We give an explicit formula for heights of special points on the quaternionic Shimura variety associated with $B$ in terms of Faltings heights of CM abelian varieties. Special points correspond to CM fields $E$ and partial CM-types $\phi \subset \mathrm{Hom}(E, \mathbb{C})$. We then show that our height is compatible with the canonical height of a partial CM-type defined by Pila, Shankar, and Tsimerman. This gives another proof that the height of a partial CM-type is bounded subpolynomially in terms of the discriminant of $E$.

Abstract:Abstract In this paper, we investigate the theory of heights in a family of stacky curves following recent work of Ellenberg, Satriano, and Zureick-Brown. We first give an elementary construction of a height which is seen to be dual to theirs. We count rational points having bounded ESZ-B height on a particular stacky curve, answering a question of Ellenberg, Satriano, and Zureick-Brown. We also show that when the Euler characteristic of stacky curves is non-positive, the ESZ-B height coming from the anti-canonical divisor class fails to have the Northcott property. We prove that a stacky version of a conjecture of Vojta is equivalent to the $abc$ -conjecture.

Abstract:<p> We give an upper bound on the number of rational points of an arbitrary Zariski closed subset of a projective space over a finite field <math alttext="bold upper F Subscript q"> <semantics> <msub> <mrow> <mi mathvariant="bold">F</mi> </mrow> <mi>q</mi> </msub> <annotation>\mathbf {F}_q</annotation> </semantics> </math> . This bound depends only on the dimensions and degrees of the irreducible components and holds for very general projective varieties, even reducible and nonequidimensional. As a consequence, we prove a conjecture of Ghorpade and Lachaud on the maximal number of rational points of an equidimensional projective variety. </p>

Abstract:The goal of this paper is to prove a formula expressing the modular height of a quaternionic Shimura curve over a totally real number field in terms of the logarithmic derivative of the Dedekind zeta function of the totally real number field. Our proof is based on the work of Yuan-Zhang-Zhang on the Gross-Zagier formula and the work of Yuan-Zhang on the averaged Colmez conjecture. All these works are in turn inspired by the Pioneering work of Gross-Zagier and some philosophies of Kudla's program.

Abstract:This note discusses some intriguing connections between height bounds on complex K-semistable Fano varieties X and Peyre's conjectural formula for the density of rational points on X. Relations to an upper bound for the smallest rational point, proposed by Elsenhans-Jahnel, are also explored. These relations suggest an analog of the height inequalities, adapted to the real points, which is established for the real projective line and related to Kähler-Einstein metrics.

Abstract:Inspired by Bourqui's work on anticanonical height zeta functions on Hirzebruch surfaces, we study height zeta functions of split toric varieties with Picard rank 2 over global function fields, with respect to height functions associated with big metrized line bundles. We show that these varieties can be naturally decomposed into a finite disjoint union of subvarieties, where precise analytic properties of the corresponding height zeta functions can be given. As application, we obtain asymptotic formulas for the number of rational points of large height on each subvariety, with explicit leading constants and controlled error terms.

Abstract:Assuming the Morrison-Kawamata cone conjecture for the generic fiber of a Calabi-Yau fibration and the abundance conjecture, we show (1) the finiteness of minimal models, (2) the existence of a weak rational polyhedral fundamental domain under the action of birational automorphism groups, and (3) the finiteness of varieties as targets of contractions. As an application, the finiteness of minimal models and the weak Morrison-Kawamata cone conjecture in relative dimensions $\leq 2$ are established.
