Abstract:The multilevel structures of biochar (BC) determine its multiple environmental functions. In this study, the multiphase structure and potential environmental risks of cotton straw, alfalfa straw, and wheat straw BC produced at 400-600 ℃ were thoroughly investigated. Results showed that pyrolysis temperature significantly affected elemental composition and morphology structure of BC. Higher pyrolysis temperature led to a higher aromatization and graphitization degree of BC. The numerical relationship between pyrolysis temperature and BC properties were established. Pyrolysis temperature and feedstock type controlled the content, composition, and functional group evolution of BC-DOM. Although the amount of potentially toxic elements (PTEs) in BC was concentrated after pyrolysis, the potentially risk of PTEs was significantly decreased. The spin concentration of persistent free radicals in BC prepared at 500 ℃ was the highest. These results would hopefully offer a comprehensive basis for efficient utilization of straw resources and scientific preparation for BC.
