Abstract: Let $1<q<p<\infty$, $\frac1r:=\frac1q-\frac1p$, and $T$ be a non-degenerate Calder\'on--Zygmund operator. We show that the commutator $[b,T]$ is compact from $L^p({\mathbb R}^n)$ to $L^q({\mathbb R}^n)$ if and only if the symbol $b=a+c$ with $a\in L^r({\mathbb R}^n)$ and $c$ being any constant. Since both the corresponding Hardy--Littlewood maximal operator and the corresponding Calder\'on--Zygmund maximal operator are not bounded from $L^p({\mathbb R}^n)$ to $L^q({\mathbb R}^n)$, we take the full advantage of the compact support of the approximation element in $C_{\rm c}^\infty({\mathbb R}^n)$, which seems to be redundant for many corresponding estimates when $p\leq q$ but to be crucial when $p>q$. We also extend the results to the multilinear case.

Abstract:We discuss the L-P compactness of Calderon type commutators T-A defined byT-A f (X) = p.v. integral(Rn) Omega(x - y)/ vertical bar x - y vertical bar(n+1) R(A; x, y) f(y) dy,where R(A; x, y) = A(x) - del(y).(x - y) with D(beta)A is an element of BMO(R-n) for all n >= 2 and vertical bar beta vertical bar = 1. Moreover, Omega is homogeneous of degree zero and has a vanishing moment of order one on Sn-1.We prove that both TA and its maximal operator T-A, * are compact operators on L-p (R-n) for all 1 < p < infinity with A satisfying some conditions. Moreover, the compactness of the fractional operators perpendicular to(alpha,)A,(m) and M-alpha,(A),(m) is proved.

Abstract:In this note we remark that classical compactness interpolation methods show that the optimal sufficient conditions for the $L^p$-to-$L^q$ compactness of commutators of Calderón-Zygmund operators in the ranges $q<p,$ $q = p$ and $q>p$ quickly follow from each other.

Abstract:For exponents $p,q\in (1,\infty),$ we study the $L^p$-to-$L^q$ boundedness and compactness of the commutator $[b,H_{\gamma}] = bH_{\gamma} - H_{\gamma}b,$ where $H_{\gamma}$ is the Hilbert transform along the monomial curve $\gamma$ and the function $b$ is complex valued. We obtain a sparse form domination of the commutator and show that $b\in \operatorname{BMO}^{\gamma,\alpha}$ is a sufficient condition for boundedness in a half-open range of exponents $q\in[p,p+p(\Xi));$ in doing so we obtain a genuinely fractional case $q>p$ and also give a new proof of the case $q=p,$ due to Bongers, Guo, J. Li and Wick. Involving the $L^p$ improving phenomena of single scale averages, we show that $b\in \operatorname{VMO}^{\gamma,\alpha}$ is a sufficient condition for compactness in the same range of exponents $q\in[p,p+p(\Xi))$ as in the case of boundedness. For $q<p,$ we show that $b\in \dot L^r$ is a sufficient condition for compactness; the argument is new and we use it to obtain a new short proof of the same implication for commutators of Calderón-Zygmund operators, recently due to Hytönen, K. Li, Tao and Yang. For necessity, and now restricting to the plane, we develop the approximate weak factorization argument to the extent that it now works for all monomial curves, thus removing the extra assumption present in our earlier work that the graph $\gamma(\mathbb{R})\subset\mathbb{R}^2$ intersects adjacent quadrants. As a consequence in the plane, we obtain that all of the above sufficiency conditions are necessary. We present several open problems.

Abstract:In this paper we prove a characterization of the $L^p$-to-$L^q$ boundedness of commutators to the Cauchy transform. Our work presents both new results and new proofs for established results. In particular, we show that the Campanato space characterizes boundedness of commutators for a certain range of $p$ and $q$.

Abstract:We complement the recent theory of general singular integrals $T$ invariant under the Zygmund dilations $(x_1, x_2, x_3) \mapsto (s x_1, tx_2, st x_3)$ by proving necessary and sufficient conditions for the boundedness and compactness of commutators $[b,T]$ from $L^p \to L^q$. Previously, only the $p=q$ upper bound in terms of a Zygmund type little $\operatorname{BMO}$ space was known for general operators, and it appears that there has been some confusion about the corresponding lower bound in recent literature. We give complete characterizations whenever $p \le q$ for a general class of non-degenerate Zygmund type singular integrals. Some of the results are somewhat surprising in view of existing papers - for instance, compactness always forces $b$ to be constant. Even in the simpler situation of bi-parameter singular integrals it appears that this has not been observed previously.

Abstract:We study the compactness of commutator of a locally integrable function and an oscillatory singular integral operator defined by a real-valued polynomial and a kernel function satisfying the Hölder condition. We show that such a commutator is compact from L p to L q if and only if the locally integrable function is the sum of a constant and a function in certain Lebesgue space.

On the compactness of the bi-commutator

Abstract:We prove compactness results and characterizations for the bi-commutator $[T_1,[b, T_2]]$ of a symbol $b$ and two non-degenerate Calderón-Zygmund singular integral operators $T_1, T_2$. Our strategy for proving sufficient conditions for compactness is to first establish them in the mixed-norm $L^{p_1}L^{p_2}\to L^{q_1}L^{q_2}$ off-diagonal case with $p_i < q_i$, and then extend these to other exponents, including the diagonal $p_i = q_i$, with a new extrapolation argument. In particular, the natural product $\operatorname{VMO}$ condition is obtained as a sufficient condition in the diagonal. A full characterization is obtained, both in terms of a vanishing mean oscillation type condition and in terms of the approximability of the symbol, whenever the inequality $p_i \le q_i$ is strict for at least one index. The extrapolation scheme for proving sufficiency requires us to prove new approximation results in relevant bi-parameter function spaces that are of independent interest. The necessity results are obtained by carefully combining recent rectangular approximate weak factorization methods with a classical idea of Uchiyama.

Abstract:We focus on the need for the compactness characterizations of the commutators of Hardy operators. More precisely, we prove that the commutators of Hardy operators, including the fractional Hardy operator, are compact operators on L-p(R-n) (1 < p < infinity) spaces if and only if the symbol functions of the commutators belong to CVMO(R-n) spaces (the central BMO (R-n) closure of C-c(infinity)(R-n)).

In this paper, a CMO type space [Formula: see text] is introduced and studied. In particular, the relationship between [Formula: see text] and the Lipchitz space [Formula: see text] is discussed. Moreover, a necessary condition of restricted boundedness of the iterated commutator [Formula: see text] on weighted Lebesgue spaces via functions in [Formula: see text], and an equivalent characterization of the compactness for [Formula: see text] via functions in [Formula: see text] are obtained. Some results are new even in the unweighted setting for the first-order commutators.

Abstract:In this paper, the authors give a characterization of the $L^p$-boundedness of the commutators for the parabolic singular integrals. More precisely, the authors prove that if $b\in \mathrm{BMO}_\varphi(\mathsf{R}^n,\rho)$, then the commutator $[b,T]$ is a bounded operator from $L^p(\mathsf{R}^n)$ to the Orlicz space $L_\psi(\mathsf{R}^n)$, where the kernel function $\Omega$ has no any smoothness on the unit sphere $S^{n-1}$. Conversely, if assuming on $\Omega$ a slight smoothness on $S^{n-1}$, then the boundedness of $[b,T]$ from $L^p(\mathsf{R}^n)$ to $L_\psi(\mathsf{R}^n)$ implies that $b\in \mathrm{BMO}_\varphi(\mathsf{R}^n,\rho)$. The results in this paper improve essentially and extend some known conclusions.

Abstract:Let X be a ball Banach function space on ${\mathbb R}^{n}$ . Let Ω be a Lipschitz function on the unit sphere of ${\mathbb R}^{n}$ , which is homogeneous of degree zero and has mean value zero, and let TΩ be the convolutional singular integral operator with kernel Ω(⋅)/|⋅|n. In this article, under the assumption that the Hardy–Littlewood maximal operator ${\mathscr{M}}$ is bounded on both X and its associated space, the authors prove that the commutator [b, TΩ] is compact on X if and only if $b\in \text {CMO }({\mathbb R}^{n})$ . To achieve this, the authors mainly employ three key tools: some elaborate estimates, given in this article, on the norm of X about the commutators and the characteristic functions of some measurable subsets, which are implied by the assumed boundedness of ${\mathcal M}$ on X and its associated space as well as the geometry of $\mathbb R^{n}$ ; the complete John–Nirenberg inequality in X obtained by Y. Sawano et al.; the generalized Fréchet–Kolmogorov theorem on X also established in this article. All these results have a wide range of applications. Particularly, even when $X:=L^{p(\cdot )}({\mathbb R}^{n})$ (the variable Lebesgue space), $X:=L^{\vec {p}}({\mathbb R}^{n})$ (the mixed-norm Lebesgue space), $X:=L^{\Phi }({\mathbb R}^{n})$ (the Orlicz space), and $X:=(E_{\Phi }^{q})_{t}({\mathbb R}^{n})$ (the Orlicz-slice space or the generalized amalgam space), all these results are new.

Abstract:A major open question in the theory of Toeplitz operator on the Bergman space of the unit disk of the complex plane is to fully characterize the set of all Toeplitz operators that commute with a given one. In [2], the second author described the sum $S = T_{e^{im\theta}f} +T_{e^{il\theta}g}$, where $f$ and $g$ are radial functions, that commutes with the sum $T = T_{e^{ip\theta}r(2M+1)p} +T_{e^{is\theta}r(2N+1)s}$ . It is proved that $S = cT$, where $c$ is a constant. In this article, we shall replace $r^{(2M+1)p}$ and $r^{(2N+1)s}$ by $r^n$ and $r^d$ respectively, with $n$ and $d$ in $\mathbb{N}$, and we shall show that the same result holds.

Abstract:We investigate Bergman type operators on the complex unit ball, which are singular integral operators induced by the modified Bergman kernel. We consider the L-p-L-q boundedness and compactness of Bergman type operators. The results of boundedness can be viewed as the Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev (HLS) type theorem in the case unit ball. We also give some sharp norm estimates of Bergman type operators which in fact gives the upper bounds of the optimal constants in the HLS type inequality on the unit ball. Moreover, a trace formula is given.
