Abstract:In modern public administration, government agencies never operate in a vacuum. They are embedded in an environment consisting of multiple audiences(higher-ups, interest groups, the media, experts and scholars, the general public, etc.) when they formulate and implement public policies. Therefore, public managers manage the organizational reputation to win broad support for specific institutions and their activities, reduce the internal and external threats faced by the organization, and increase organizational legitimacy and autonomy. During the last decade, organizational reputation research has become a frontier in international public management and one of the dominant paradigms to explain the behavior of government agencies. This article presents a selection of four representative papers recently published in top international public management research journals. These four papers examine the various communications strategies of central banks in different contexts, the impact of the history of media reputation on organizational reputation, the impact of management of organizational reputation on institutional reform, and attempts to measure and compare the organizational reputation of multinational government agencies based on new methods and new data. Based on a brief review of these four papers, this article provides a brief summary and outlook on the frontiers of research on organizational reputation in the public sector.
