Abstract:Fish mortality prediction is important in intensive aquaculture; however, it is difficult to accurately predict fish mortality using statistical prediction methods because of dynamic changes in environmental factors. Therefore, in this study, dynamic fish mortality pre-diction under environmental stress due to low concentrations of ammonia nitrogen was performed on the basis of 32 features, including static and cumulative time-series features. First, the effects of different ammonia nitrogen concentrations on fish mortality were investigated, and the median lethal concentrations of ammonia nitrogen at 24, 48, 72, and 96 h were determined. Thereafter, a machine learning model was proposed to predict the hourly mortality of fish under stress due to low-concentration ammonia nitrogen. The proposed mortality prediction model combines static data with cumulative time-series dynamic data and uses a long short-term memory artificial neural network for dynamic fish mortality prediction. To confirm the utility of the model and improve its interpret-ability, the features driving fish mortality prediction were visualised at 1-h intervals. The model showed excellent predictive performance on the external validation dataset, which improved over time, achieving a coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.81 (95% confidence interval (CI) 0.73-0.89) and root-mean-square error (RMSE) of 0.30 (CI 0.21-0.39) within 168 h. This dynamic predictive method adapts to changing aquaculture conditions and provides interpretable guidance for aquaculturists.(c) 2023 IAgrE. Published by Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
