Abstract:As information development has progressed in the field of architecture in China, owing to the lack of unified information exchange standards and information integration mechanisms, it is difficult to exchange and share information between different stages and application systems during the construction lifecycle. The formation of information islands and faults hinders the application of information technology in the field of construction, thus affecting the production efficiency of the industry. In this study, construction engineering management and computer building information modeling (BIM) are deeply integrated, and an international standard for the construction industry is introduced. Moreover, a BIM information integrated building management platform is developed that combines BIM technology with the construction engineering management to realize the exchange of engineering information and shared and integrated management, in addition to providing theories, methods, technologies, and platforms.

Abstract:Along with the rapid development of infrastructure worldwide, traditional manual operations have been a concern that restricts the high efficiency, safety, and quality of construction sites. Benefiting the significant improvements of smart manufacturing and artificial intelligence (AI), intelligent construction machinery has been considered a novel solution to address human operations' shortcomings, which are mainly reflected in prognostic and health management (PHM), environment perception, and automation control. Relevant data-driven methods have achieved important advancement while lacking a comprehensive summary. Hence, this paper surveyed a wide range of research works reported in the literature which realized few-manned or unattended construction sites. At first, several widely-used AI algorithms and their variations were introduced. Secondly, three aspects were discussed in detail: PHM applications based on experiment environments, environment perception systems in terms of information mediums, and automation control methods according to training mechanisms. Finally, several research outlooks and challenges were put forward.

Abstract:Intelligent construction techniques refer to the use of advanced technologies and systems to improve the efficiency, productivity, and safety of construction projects. The application of intelligent construction technology in China is gradually becoming a new trend in the construction industry. Starting from the concept and characteristics of intelligent construction technology, this article explores its application in the Chinese construction field. By analyzing the advantages of intelligent construction technology in improving construction efficiency, reducing costs, and enhancing quality, it reveals its positive impact on the Chinese construction industry. At the same time, this article also discusses the challenges and development prospects that intelligent construction technology may face in practical applications in China, providing foresight of future trends regarding the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, Building Information Modeling (BIM), Robotics, sustainability, and other innovative and advance technology with intelligent construction techniques, and recommendations for helping accelerate the development of intelligent construction techniques by means such as enhancing education and training programs and establishing industry standards and regulations.

Abstract:Under the background of rapid economic and urbanization, the management mode of construction engineering is undergoing a transformation to adapt to the increasing complexity and dynamic nature. With the help of modern information technology, intelligent project management provides a full-cycle solution for construction projects. This study explores the multiple applications of intelligent technology in construction project management, including the integrated application of (Building Information Modeling) BIM technology in design, construction and operation, as well as the practice of intelligent schedule management, cost control and site safety supervision. The study found that although the application of BIM technology in construction schedule management is still in its infancy, it shows great potential in improving design and construction quality and optimizing resource management. By integrating the smart site platform and the Internet of Things (IoT) technology, the intelligent progress management system realizes the real-time monitoring of the construction process and improves the accuracy and response speed of project management. In terms of cost management, the application of intelligent technology significantly improves the accuracy of cost control and management transparency through real-time monitoring, data integration and predictive optimization. At the same time, the application of smart wearable devices and image recognition technology provides new solutions for the safety management of construction sites, and improves the efficiency of worker safety and site supervision.

Abstract:The new generation of information technology is changing with each passing day,the combination of industrialization and informatization is going to a greater depth. Construction of intelligent factories has become the main route of transformation and upgrading. Intelligent factory construction is a long-term,complex and innovative project,related theories,standards,technologies and applications are still in constant research and exploration. The process industries intelligent factories construction strategy was deeply considered as well as analyzed,from four dimensions on plant recognition,intelligent solutions,evaluation system,core support elements,base on digital asset model of whole lifecycle of enterprise informatization planning and construction thinking was studied, and the digital asset model application of technical capability was discussed. Based on the comprehensive consideration from data,model to application,the top design function framework of process industry enterprise information system was designed. Abstract:Abstract Construction industry is one of the pillar industries in China, which has made great contributions to China’s economic development. However, because the overall management level of the construction industry in China is still relatively low at present, the construction procedures of many projects are complex and involve many factors. In order to make the construction proceed smoothly, it is necessary to control the progress of construction projects reasonably. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to analyze the application of computer technology in construction project schedule control in the information age. In this paper, according to the actual situation, the project management software Project 2019 in computer technology is used to control and manage the progress of the project. Project 2019 can work out a set of optimal construction schedule within the specified time limit, compare it with the actual schedule, find out the deviation and its causes, make reasonable analysis and make corresponding adjustments. At the end of this paper, the construction projects controlled by the project management software Project 2019 are compared with those not used, and the actual effects of both are analyzed. The experimental results show that the project management software Project 2019 can effectively control the progress of the construction project reasonably, and can make corresponding adjustments according to the actual situation, which can accelerate the overall progress of the project by about 10%, which is of great significance for improving the existing construction project progress.

Abstract:The construction industry has been influenced considerably by smart technologies in the last decade, ushered in by the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Smart technologies display the potential to improve the performance of the construction industry. Due to the increasingly complex projects and urgent labor shortage caused by the pandemic, it is important for the industry to have a holistic understanding of the specific applications of smart technologies in construction project management. However, there is limited research on the applications of smart technologies with a focus on project management knowledge areas. Therefore, this paper aims to (1) investigate the applications of smart technologies on project time, cost, and quality management and identify the top influential applications; and (2) identify whether the organizations’ profiles influence project managers’ perceptions of smart technologies. In order to achieve these objectives, a literature review was first conducted to establish a comprehensive list of applications. Then, a survey questionnaire was designed and disseminated to investigate the most influential applications. Finally, a post interview was conducted to validate the survey results. The study identified 24 applications of cyber-physical systems, big data, artificial intelligence, and smart robotics on project time, cost, and quality management, and found that the most influential applications of smart technologies are data collection for progress tracking, real-time monitoring, and schedule estimation. Furthermore, in most cases, organizations with different sizes and years of experience make no difference in respondents’ perceived impact of applications. The findings from this study contribute to the Project Management Body of Knowledge by informing how smart technologies can improve project management processes and performance. In addition, the findings also provide industry practitioners with a comprehensive guide regarding the specific applications of the selected smart technologies in construction project management, which can serve as a steppingstone to facilitate the digital transformation of the construction industry.

How Information Technology Can Improve Construction Management for General Contractor: A Case Study

Abstract:Information technology such as Building Information Modeling, 3D-printing provides an innovative approach for construction project management, aiming at increasing efficiency, improving quality and reducing cost. Construction corporations in mainland China are making active attempts to increase the informatization level in construction projects. This paper discusses Beijing Headquarter building project of Tencent as a case study for the information technology application in the construction phase in terms of how information technology can improve construction management for general contractor. The project for case study is designed as a large public building located in Beijing, with a footprint area of 334,386 square meters. Considering the complexity of the structure, tight schedule and difficulties in detailed construction, various of attempts of information technology application have been made in the project, including 4D-BIM integrated management, 3D-printing, construction simulation. These attempts cover schedule, quality, safety and cost management, resulting in reduction of redundant work, optimized detailed design, improved efficiency, etc. This paper examines the process of each application and analyzes the necessity of each technique by comparing the benefits and the devotion. This project won the first prize in “Longtu Cup” national BIM competition in 2015 and held an exhibition presenting information technology application. The paper also discusses the value and challenges appeared during the application of information technology in the case. Information technology application can result in resource and workload reduction, problem solving in advance and realizing precise management, thus improving construction management for general contractor. However, promoting information technology application can be challenging at first, given the management team is not familiar enough with the techniques. Countermeasures are proposed regarding the challenges and difficulties arose in the case.

Abstract:The new mode for managing construction projects with information technology (IT) has attracted worldwide attention because it can help managers and workers perform tasks and bring potential benefits, such as high-quality products and accident-free production, effectively. However, the application of IT in site have not achieved expected results because it is faced with many constraints caused by internal factors from enterprises and projects and external factors from the government and environment. Although many relevant studies have discussed the constraints of implementing different IT and devices in the construction industry or site, few articles have specifically focused on identifying and analyzing the indicator system. In this work, we took China as the background, scientifically identified 23 influential factors that affect the implementation of IT in construction management through literature review and expert interviews. Subsequently, questionnaires were issued, and Delphi method was used to obtain empirical data that aimed at four different management fields. Then, an efficient and convenient method called DEMATEL was used to deal with these data. Afterward, the factors were divided into four categories, namely, core, diving, independent, and impact factors. Finally, the similarities and differences of the analysis results from the four fields were compared, and the key factors were identified. Results show that the cross-domain talent ability, concept and value cognition, and organization structure are core factors in all management fields that should be managed first along with the IT innovation ability in the enterprise. The formulation of technical standards and related device and training input are also critical in specific fields. Strategic planning plays a role in macro control and promotion. Data management and application, platform construction, solution, and collaboration have direct impacts on information management. The research results provide suggestions not only for the government to formulate effective policies for IT application and promotion in construction industry, but also for enterprises to take measures in improving management efficiency in the construction site and realizing its substantial benefits.

This paper analyzes the feature of intelligent construction, and discusses the current situation of intelligent construction and the application progress of intelligent construction in civil engineering construction, including Building information modeling (BIM) technology, Internet of Things and big data technology, AI technology, virtual reality technology, three-dimensional scanning technology, intelligent equipment and construction robots. At the same time, the problems and disadvantages of AI in the construction field are analyzed, and the application prospect of intelligent construction technology in future engineering construction is forecasted.

Abstract:This paper aims to evaluate and analyze the application effect of intelligent construction technology in the process of building construction because of the complexity and uncertainty of the technology itself. It also aims to promote the digital application of intelligent construction technologies throughout the life cycle of building construction and sustainable construction. Combining questionnaires and the Delphi, an indicator system for the evaluation of the application effect of intelligent construction technology was constructed, which contained twenty indicators, and then a cloud matter-element model was subsequently established by combining the cloud model with the matter element theory and took a practical engineering project as an example, so as to determine the application effect level of the technology. Results show that the evaluation grade of the effectiveness of the application of intelligent construction technology in this project is three-star and the application of intelligent construction technology in the construction phase is average, but there is a trend towards good development. The evaluation of the application effect of intelligent construction technology provides a direction for the specific application of new construction technology and promotes the transformation and upgrading of the construction industry and sustainable development.

Abstract:The rapid development of emerging technologies such as BIM has greatly promoted the intelligent development of prefabricated building construction. This paper adopts a research method that combines on-site investigation, field testing, and technological development to explore quality control in prefabricated building construction and the integration of prefabricated buildings with intelligent construction. Focusing on three key technologies in prefabricated building construction - component installation, on-site layout, and steel connection—the paper examines the technical principles, operational processes, and application effects. It also studies and develops intelligent construction-related technologies such as, accurate alignment of prefabricated components, intelligent layout technology and simultaneous self-locking connection technology for multiple steel. Additionally, two types of rapid steel layout equipment are developed. These findings provide references for the further integration of prefabricated concrete construction with intelligent construction.

Abstract:Construction is the pillar industry of Chinese national economy, but the profit rate has continued to decline in recent years. The conventional job-centric construction information system cannot meet the requirements for safety, quality, and efficiency. In order to solve the above problems, a digital selves based intelligent construction framework has been proposed which is centred on workers, equipment, and sites. It changes the conventional job-centered construction information system and realizes efficient coordination of information among various departments and stages. Applying the digital selves based intelligent construction framework to the case has been proved to be a good solution to the problem of information sharing. Meanwhile, the authenticity and reliability of the information have been ensured. The system has improved management efficiency and information systematization for all participants. It has enabled companies and workers to have a more comprehensive understanding of themselves and to make timely and effective strategies against hazards. In addition, the system has effectively raised the level of digitalization, automation, and intelligence of construction, making governance more accurate and more effective.

The study highlights the potential of artificial intelligence and machine learning technology in the construction industry. The implementation of the proposed approaches will improve the efficiency of construction, its safety and quality. The results of the study will be useful in the standardization of construction processes and the processing of data on construction projects.
