Abstract:We demonstrate a record single-wavelength net 1.04-Tb/s transmission over 40-km SMF using 56.5-GHz Jones-space direct-detection receiver with the highest electrical spectral efficiency of 18.4 b/s/Hz. Using the 42-km weakly-coupled 7-core multi-core fiber, we achieve a net 6.49-Tb/s signal transmission for large-scale and high-capacity data center interconnects.

Abstract:We experimentally demonstrate a real-time quasi-full-duplex 400G/300G optical interconnection over 20 km multicore fibers (MCFs), using 10G-class transponders operated in the C-band. Optical delay interferometer (ODI)-based optical frequency equalization is applied to mitigate chirp and dispersion induced impairments, so that the tolerance to inter-symbol interference (ISI) can be enhanced, thus enabling 4 x 25 Gb/s on-off keying (OOK) transmission per core over severely limited bandwidth channels. Real-time bit error ratio (BER) performances of the bidirectional 400 Gb/s transmission are measured without using extra digital signal processing (DSP) or electrical equalization, which ensures low complexity and less power consumption.

Abstract:We investigate recirculating transmission of a wideband S-, C- and L-band signal in a 4-core fiber. We transmit 552 x 25 GHz spaced, 24.5 GBd channels, covering more than 120 nm bandwidth from 1487.8 nm to 1608.33 nm through each core of the multi-core fiber (MCF), which has the same 125m cladding dimeter as standard single-mode fiber. We first use PDM-16QAM modulation and measure performance at distances up to 3001 km, corresponding to 43 spans of the 69.8 km MCF. At this distance we measure a decoded throughput of 319 Tbs or 342 Tbs when estimating from the generalised mutual information (GMI). Extending the transmission distance to 8027 km, a selection of PDM-QPSK modulated channels across the spectrum were received with an average GMI estimated data-rate of 83.7 Gbs. These results show that wideband transmission including the S-band has the potential to increase data-rates in long-haul optical fiber transmission. Further, our experiment confirms that 125 m diameter MCFs can multiply transmission capacity whilst offering benefits of resource sharing and integration, expected in SDM systems.

Abstract:We firstly demonstrated a 24Tb/s (24×1.3Tb/s) C and L-band WDM transmission of PDM-CO-OFDM superchannels over 2400km EDFA-only SMF-28 link with BER less than the 3rd generation FEC threshold of 2×10−2. Each PDM-CO-OFDM superchannel per WDM tributary delivers up to 1.3Tb/s total capacity over 13 flattened, frequency-locked optical subcarriers yielding a compact spectral width of 350GHz.

Abstract:We demonstrate a 10.7Gb/s-line-rate L-band WDM loop transmission over 1890km standard single-mode fiber (SSMF) with 100km amplifier spacing as well as non-return-to-zero (NRZ) format. For the first time, dispersion compensating fiber (DCF) plus chirped fiber Bragg grating (CFBG) is employed for hybrid inline dispersion compensation. The power penalty of each channel is less than 3dB after three loop transmission.. The experimental results show that high-performance-CFBGs can be successfully used in ultra-long haul (> 1000km) WDM systems. We also point out that all-CFBG compensation scheme is not suitable for re-circulating loop transmissions.

Abstract:We demonstrate three-channel WDM transmission of 12.84-Tb/s/ch polarization division multiplexed (PDM) 64-QAM over 320-km SMF-28 with hybrid amplification spans. Each 10-Tb/s superchannel comprises one hundred Nyquist DWDM subchannels in 1275-GHz spectrum occupancy, yielding a spectral efficiency of 7.9 b/s/Hz. The BER of all channels after transmission over 320 km is measured smaller than 2×10-2, the third generation FEC limit.

Abstract:We experimentally demonstrate a total net-rate of 27.88 Tb/s for C-band wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) transmission over an ultralong span-length of 150 km. It is the largest net capacity × span-length product of 4182 Tb/s·km for C-band, single-core, standard single-mode optical fiber transmission over a length of more than 3,000 km. A total of 99 channels, spaced at 50 GHz intervals, are employed for transmitting 32 GBaud probabilistically constellation-shaped (PCS) 64QAM signals with an information entropy of 5.5. High gain amplifiers can achieve wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) transmission with a bandwidth of 6.25 THz, at a noise figure below 4.3 dB, without the assistance of distributed Raman amplification.

Abstract:We experimentally demonstrated wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) coherent transmission of probabilistically shaped (PS) 64-quadrature amplitude modulation (64QAM) signal through a 1.1 km hollow-core fiber (HCF) over the entire extended C-band. To our best knowledge, the result achieves a record-breaking transmission capacity, i.e., 50.7-Tbit/s, for low-latency, high-speed and ultra-high-capacity optical communication in HCFs.

Abstract:An optic fiber loop test-bed based on 10.7 Gb/s WDM system with a high birefringence fiber Sagnac loop gain equalization filter was realized, and the BER of system is less than 3×105 (without FEC). Configured as computer simulation optimizing, a transmission experiment of 10.7Gb/s×16 channels over 1600 km single mode fiber (SMF), with single loop length 240 km, loss more than 80 dB, was successfully conducted. After 7 loops transmission, more than 5 dBm unflat of channel power is avoided by the novel GEF.
