Abstract:Pyridines and cyclopropanes are important structural units in chemistry. Herein, we introduce a photoredox-catalyzed approach for the ring opening and 1,3-oxypyridylation of aryl cyclopropanes using 4-cyanopyridines and carboxylic acids. This sequential process involves single-electron oxidation of the aryl cyclopropane, leading to nucleophilic ring opening and radical pyridylation at the benzylic position. The redox-neutral reaction exhibits high regioselectivity under mild reaction conditions, offering a broad substrate scope and wide applicability.

Abstract:The first nitro-group-initiated redox-neutral [3+2] cycloaddition of nitrocyclopropanes with alkenes by using visible-light-absorbing transition-metal complexes was reported. High diastereoselectivities were observed for two quaternary carbon centers on the ring and validated by DFT calculations. Spiro- or polycyclic structures can be constructed smoothly. Cyclic γ-amino acid derivatives and polysubstituted cyclic amino alcohols can be obtained easily through reduction of the nitro group.

Abstract:Here we describe a straightforward and efficient approach for regiospecific introduction of an allyl group into cycloalkanol molecules employing a visible-light-mediated ring-opening strategy. A wide range of distally allylated or formylated ketones is furnished from 1-aryl cycloalkanol precursors of variable ring sizes, providing a concise and practical access for the modification of complex natural products. Preliminary mechanistic studies demonstrate that the key O-centered radicals mediate the sequential ring cleavage and allylation/formylation.

Abstract:The visible-light-promoted diastereodivergent intramolecular oxyamination of alkenes is described to construct oxazolindinones, pyrrolidinones and imidazolidones via mild generation of primary amidyl radicals from functionalized hydroxylamines. A unique phenomenon of highly diastereoselective ring-opening of aziridines controlled by electron sacrifices was observed. Highly diastereoselective amino alcohols derivatives were obtained efficiently through this protocol in gram scales. The mechanistic studies suggested the isolatable anti-aziridine intermediates were generated quickly from primary amidyl radicals and the diastereoselectivities were controlled by pK(a) values of the electron sacrifices.

Abstract:The first example of visible-light-driven reductive carboarylation of styrenes with CO2 and aryl halides in a regioselective manner has been achieved. A broad range of aryl iodides and bromides were compatible with this reaction. Moreover, pyridyl halides, alkyl halides and even aryl chlorides were also viable with this method. These findings may stimulate the exploration of novel visible-light-driven Meerwein arylation-addition reactions with user-friendly aryl halides as the radical sources and the photocatalytic utilization of CO2.

Abstract:We report the 1,6-addition of acyl radicals to the electron-deficient 1,3-dienes under visible-light photoredox catalysis. The deoxygenative allylation of the carboxylic acid is achieved under mild conditions, generating the valuable 1,6-dicarbonyl compounds in moderate to good yields (up to 96%). A range of functionalized carboxylic acids are competent coupling partners. This deoxygenative allylation protocol has a high level of regio- and stereo-selectivity as well as good functional group comparability. Graphical The deoxygenative allylation of carboxylic acids was achieved through radical 1,6-addition reaction of electron-deficient 1,3-dienes under the visible-light photoredox catalysis. Abstract:Herein, we report a visible-light-induced, copper-catalyzed regiodivergent sulfonylation of oxime esters with sodium sulfinates under mild conditions. The aliphatic C(sp3)-H bond in α-aryl-α-alkyl oxime esters reacted via a 1,3-hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) process and affording β-ketosulfones. Meanwhile, γ,δ-unsaturated oxime esters resulted in sulfonyl-functionalized pyrroline via an intramolecular olefin aminosulfonylation and 5-exo-trig cyclization procedure. Notably, this redox-neutral, regiovergent alkyl-SO2R coupling reaction features mild conditions, free from external reducing and oxidizing agents, low catalyst loading, broad substrate compatibility, and good functional group tolerance. Also, the reaction can be scaled up and trifluorobenzoic acid can be recovered. Mechanistic studies combined with computational analysis provide insight into the mechanism and the origins of the substitute-controlled regioselectivity.

Abstract:A practical and efficient method has been established for the direct oxidation of allylic C–H bonds catalyzed by visible-light-enabled photoredox agents. This protocol uses oxygen as the sole oxidant under metal-free conditions at room temperature and produces functionalized enones. When combined with acid-promoted dehydration, this benign and mild method enables the production of meta-functionalized phenols from simple cyclohexenols. A key to this reaction is the choice of tetrabutylammonium bromide as a hydrogen atom transfer cocatalyst.

Abstract:Herein, we describe a green and efficient photoredox catalytic C3-H alkoxycarbonylation between quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones or coumarins and readily available alkyloxalyl chlorides under ambient conditions. A series of quinoxaline-3-carbonyl and coumarin-3-carbonyl compounds are prepared through the radical addition of the in situ-generated alkoxycarbonyl radicals. Notably, this protocol features mild conditions, operational simplicity, and excellent functional group tolerability. More importantly, the carboxylated products can be readily derivatized into other important compounds that would be of great potential for the exploitation of pharmaceutically active compounds.

Abstract:Herein, the work demonstrates an electrochemically paired electrolysis approach facilitating the efficient achievement of the electrooxidative 1,3-oxo/carboamination of arylcyclopropanes under mild conditions. The formation of 1,3-arylamination of arylcyclopropanes involves commercially available amine redox mediators through a radical-radical process. In addition, the successful execution of β-amino ketones also occurs under atmospheric conditions. The control experiments supported the existence of key benzylic radical intermediates in the reaction pathway.

Abstract:A visible-light-catalyzed arylcarboxylation of allenes with CO 2 was developed using [Ir(ppy) 2 (dtbbpy)]PF 6 (ppy = 2-phenylpyridine; dtbbpy = 4,4′-di- tert -butyl-2,2′-bipyridine) as a photocatalyst to synthesis β-aryl β,γ-unsaturated carboxylic acids. This multicomponent protocol proceeds in an atom-economical way with exclusive regioselectivity. Preliminary mechanistic experiments suggested that allylic carbanion species are the key intermediates. Abstract:We report herein an efficient visible-light-promoted approach for the regioselective decarboxylative C-H acylation of N-methyl-3-phenylquinoxalin-2(1H)-ones using α-oxo-2-phenylacetic acids via dual palladium-photoredox catalysis. The reactions were carried out at room temperature in the presence of 24 W blue LEDs. The established protocol tolerated a wide range of functional groups and enabled the synthesis of several acylated N-methyl-3-phenylquinoxalin-2(1H)-ones in good to excellent yields. The proposed mechanism for this transformation was supported by control experiments.

Abstract:The intermolecular alkene 1,2-diary lation provides straightforward access to polyarylalkanes but suffers from substrate limitation, requiring directing auxiliaries or prefunctionalized aryl compo-nents. Herein, we report the development of a photocatalytic strat-egy that enables a three-component 1,2-diarylation of alkenes under mild reductive conditions using simple tertiary alkylamine as the terminal reductant. Readily accessible aryl iodides and cyanides serve as the C(sp2) electrophiles to simultaneously install two different aryl moieties across the olefins with high regioselectivity. This protocol exhibits a broad substrate scope for all of aryl, hetero-atom-substituted, and even unactivated alkenes and can be easily scaled up to the gram-scale. Mechanistic studies reveal a halogen -atom transfer (XAT) of aryl iodides to transient aryl radicals while a single-electron transfer (SET) of aryl cyanides to persistent aryl radical anions, both allowing for a regiocontrollable radical relay sequence.

Abstract:We report herein an unprecedented protocol for radical cyclization of aldehydes with pendant alkenes via synergistic photoredox, cobaloxime, and amine catalysis. The transformation was achieved in the absence of external oxidants, providing a variety of 5-, 6-, and 7-membered ring products with alkene transposition in satisfactory yields. Abstract:Visible-light-induced reductive dearomatization of non-activated arenes is a very challenging transformation and remains in its infancy. Herein, we report a novel strategy to achieve a visible-light-induced spirocyclizative remote arylcarboxylation of non-activated arenes including naphthalenyl- and phenyl-bearing aromatics with CO2 under mild conditions through a radical-polar crossover cascade (RPCC). This reductive dearomatization protocol rapidly delivers a broad range of spirocyclic and valuable carboxylic acid derivatives from readily accessible aromatic precursors with generally good regioselectivity and chemoselectivity.

Abstract:An efficient visible-light photocatalytic protocol for the vicinal heteroarylsulfonylation and oximinosulfonylation of unactivated olefins is described. The addition of sulfonyl radicals to alkenes triggers the intramolecular migration of remote heteroaryl and oximino groups via CC bond cleavage. The transformation features a good functional group tolerance and a broad substrate scope. A variety of valuable heteroaryl- and oximino-substituted alkyl sulfones are obtained under mild conditions in synthetically useful yields.
