A suitable diphosphine ligand was crucial for this reaction. This reaction could be performed under relatively lower temperature or in a shorter time than the alternative base‐promoted protocol.

Abstract:A protocol for C−H carboxylation of electron‐deficient 2‐pyridylphenols with CO2 through a Rh(II)‐catalyzed C−H bond activation under redox‐neutral conditions has been developed. A suitable phosphine ligand was crucial for this reaction. This method provided, in generally high yields, an access to a class of pyrido‐coumarins that are key structural motifs in biologically important molecules. Facile product derivatizations were also exemplified.

Abstract:An unprecedented Rh(I)-catalyzed, amino-group-assisted C–H carboxylation of 2-arylanilines with CO2 under redox-neutral conditions has been developed. This reaction was promoted by a phosphine ligand with t-BuOK as the base and did not require the use of additional strong organometallic reagent. It enabled an efficient direct conversion of a broad range of 2-(hetero)arylanilines including electron-deficient heteroarenes to various phenanthridinones. Possible intermediates of the reaction were also evaluated in the preliminary mechanistic studies.

Abstract:Herein we reported a protocol for synthesis of oxy-substituted ferrocenes via cobalt-catalyzed direct C-H alkoxylation under mild conditions. Notably, alcohol serves as an both alkoxide reagent and a solvent. Various ferrocene amides including estrone-derived ferrocene amide are compatible with these reaction conditions. Moreover, control experiments suggested that this alkoxylation might undergo a Co(III)/Co(IV)/Co(II) catalytic cycle.

Abstract:Although carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) is an attractive renewable carbon source, its utilization to produce fine chemicals through the catalytic carboxylation of unactivated carbon–hydrogen (C–H) bonds is still very limited and remains a challenge, largely because CO 2 is thermodynamically and kinetically stable. In particular, the generation of (hetero)aromatic carboxylic acids via a transition-metal-catalysed C–H carboxylation of arenes with CO 2 is extremely rare. Here we report a ligand-enabled site-selective carboxylation of 2-arylphenols under atmospheric pressure of CO 2 through a Rh 2 (OAc) 4 -catalysed and chelation-assisted C–H bond activation. Remarkably, the reaction occurs selectively on the less nucleophilic phenyl group with the promotion of a phosphine ligand, which overrides the site selectivity dictated by the well-known Kolbe–Schmitt type reaction. The non-acidic C–H bonds within several important classes of heterocycles were also efficiently carboxylated with this method. A mechanistic investigation revealed complexes of active catalysts and that this reaction proceeds under redox-neutral reaction conditions.

Abstract:A Cp*Rh-III-catalyzed annulative carbooxygenation of challenging 1,1-disubstituted alkenes triggered by C-H activation of N-aryloxyacetamides has been established, which affords 2,3-dihydrobenzofuran derivatives with a quaternary carbon center in good to excellent yields under mild redox-neutral conditions. An amide group on the alkenes is essential for the process, and may inhibit the beta-H elimination from C(sp3)-Rh species by saturating the rhodium center through coordination. Furthermore, mechanistic insights obtained from control experiments suggest a mechanism involving a Rh-III-Rh-V-Rh-III catalytic cycle.

Abstract:As an important class of platform molecules, planar chiral ferrocene carbonyl compounds could be transformed into various functional groups offering facile synthesis of chiral ligands and catalysts. However, developing efficient and straightforward methods for accessing enantiopure planar chiral ferrocene carbonyl compounds, especially ferroceneformaldehydes, remains highly challenging. Herein, we report a rhodium(I)/phosphoramidite-catalyzed enantioselective C–H bond arylation of ferroceneformaldehydes. Readily available aryl halides such as aryl iodides, aryl bromides, and even aryl chlorides are suitable coupling partners in this transformation, leading to a series of planar chiral ferroceneformaldehydes in good yields and excellent enantioselectivity (up to 83% yield and >99% ee). The aldehyde group could be transformed into diverse functional groups smoothly, and enantiopure Ugi’s amine and PPFA analogues could be synthesized efficiently. The latter was found to be a highly efficient ligand in Pd-catalyzed asymmetric allylic alkylation reactions. Mechanistic experiments supported the formation of imine intermediates as the key step during the reaction.

Abstract:Abstract Although carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) is known as the primary greenhouse gas, it is also considered by chemists as the ideal one‐carbon (C1) feedstock for producing valuable fine chemicals due to its abundant, inexpensive, nontoxic, and renewable properties. Nevertheless, the use of CO 2 in transition metal‐catalyzed CH carboxylation of arenes is a double challenge due to the inertness of both CO 2 and aryl CH bond. Herein, important achievements until September of 2021 in the field of transition metal‐catalyzed CH carboxylation of (hetero)arenes with CO 2 will be briefly discussed.

Abstract:Herein, a direct, metal-free, and site-selective electrochemical C-H carboxylation of arenes by reductive activation using CO2 as the economic and abundant carboxylic source was reported. The electrocarboxylation was carried out in an operationally simple manner with high chemo- and regioselectivity, setting the stage for the challenging site-selective C-H carboxylation of unactivated (hetero)arenes. The robust nature of the electrochemical strategy was reflected by a broad scope of substrates with excellent atom economy and unique selectivity. Notably, the direct and selective C-H carboxylation of various challenging arenes worked well in this approach, including electron-deficient naphthalenes, pyridines, simple phenyl derivatives, and substituted quinolines. The method benefits from being externally catalyst-free, metal-free and base-free, which makes it extremely attractive for potential applications.

Abstract:New examples of the rare class of rhodium(I) ferrocenyl Fischer carbene complexes 1–8, [Rh(LL)Cl{C(XR)Fc}] [LL = cod, (CO)2, (CO, PR3) (R = Ph, Cy or OPh), and (CO, AsPh3); XR = OEt or NH n Pr] were prepared, and the electronic effects of coligands and alkoxy vs aminocarbene substituents were investigated by spectroscopic and electrochemical methods. The molecular structures of complexes 1, 2, and 4–6 were confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The use of the complexes 1–8 as homogeneous catalysts for the hydroformylation of 1-octene was demonstrated, and the influence of the carbene substituents and coligands on the activity and regioselectivity of the catalysts evaluated. Finally, the stability of the Rh–Ccarbene bond of complex 1 under hydroformylation conditions was confirmed with 13C NMR experiments.

Abstract:Oxy-substituted planar chiral ferrocenes are of greatimportance in asymmetric synthesis and pharmaceu-ticals. However, enantioselective C-H activation offerrocenes that form C-O bonds remains a hugechallenge and has not yet been reported. Herein, theasymmetric synthesis of oxy-substituted planar chi-ral ferrocenes is achieved by cobalt-catalyzed enan-tioselective dehydrogenative C-H acyloxylation. Theuse of a dual-ligand system consisting of a chiralsalicyloxazoline (Salox) ligand and a neutral phos-phine oxide ligand, which is oxidized in situ fromthe corresponding phosphine, resulted in good yield(up to 83%) and excellent enantioselectivity (90-99% ee). The utility of this unprecedented pro-tocol is highlighted by its versatile synthetic trans-formations.

This electroreductive protocol serves as a practical platform, paving the way for the synthesis of enantioenriched propargylic carboxylic acids (up to 98% enantiomeric excess) from racemic propargylic carbonates and CO2. The efficacy of this transformation is exemplified by its successful utilization in the asymmetric total synthesis of (S)-arundic acid, (R)-PIA, (S)-chizhine D, (S)-cochlearin G, and (S,S)-alexidine, thereby underscoring the potential of asymmetric electrosynthesis to achieve complex molecular architectures sustainably.

Abstract:A new route to ferrocene indanone derivatives has been developed via the trinuclear N-heterocyclic carbene palladium(II)-catalyzed carbonylative C-C bond formation. Under a CO atmosphere, using o-bromoarylferrocene as substrate, this reaction proceeded smoothly to give the desired products in moderate to excellent yields within hours.

Abstract:Herein, the first Cp*Co(III)-catalyzed C-H allylation of ferrocene thioamides with allyl carbonates has been developed. This reaction is compatible with a wide range of functional groups, providing various allylated ferrocene derivatives in up to 90% yields. In addition, the C-H allylation protocol is also compatible with the use of vinylcyclopropanes as allylating reagents by merging C-H and C-C activation into one catalytic system. Mechanistic studies revealed that the thiocarbonyl-directing group plays a vital role in C-H activation.

Abstract:Precise synthesis of carboxylic acids via catalytic carboxylation with CO2 is highly appealing. Although considerable advancements have been achieved in difunctionalizing carboxylation of unsaturated hydrocarbons, the asymmetric variants are conspicuously underdeveloped, particularly in addressing axially chiral alkenes. Herein, we report the first catalytic atroposelective carboxylation of alkynes with CO2. A variety of valuable axially chiral carboxylic acids are obtained with good yields and high chemo-, regio-, E/Z and enantio-selectivities. Notably, an unexpected anti-selective carbo-carboxylation is observed in the sp2-hybrid carbo-electrophile-initiated reductive carboxylation of alkynes. Mechanistic studies including DFT calculation elucidate the origin of chiral induction and anti-selectivity in vinyl-carboxylation of alkynes.

Abstract:Four novel N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) silver complexes, , have been synthesized and characterized. The single X-ray crystal diffraction data indicate a dinuclear solid-state structure for and and a mononuclear structure for and . These complexes have been successfully used as efficient catalysts for the C-H activating carboxylation of terminal alkynes with CO2. A wide range of substrates with various functional groups afforded the corresponding aryl or alkyl substituted propiolic acids in good yields under mild conditions. Moreover, the role of bases and the reaction mechanism is thoroughly discussed.
