Abstract:In structural health monitoring, temperature time-lag effect inevitably affects the state assessment and damage warning of structures. Most of the existing studies focused on using machine learning models to eliminate temperature time-lag effect, but the training of models is expensive. A novel time-domain translation (TDT) method is proposed. Based on the linear correlation between temperature and structural deformation data, the mean square error (MSE) between the original structural deformation data and the fitting data is calculated. By translating the structural deformation data sequences in the time domain, the MSE is reduced to eliminate temperature time-lag effect. The Waitan Bridge located in Ningbo, China is taken as an example. The proposed method is used to eliminate the temperature time-lag effect of structural deformation data, and is compared with the Fourier series method. The results show that there are obvious hysteresis loops in the correlation analysis between structural deformation and temperature. The temperature time-lag effect elimination method proposed in this study effectively reduces the area of hysteresis loops, and enhances the correlation between bridge structure deformation and temperature data. Compared with the Fourier series method, the TDT method can eliminate the hysteresis loops more thoroughly, and is independent of subjective experience judgment.
