Abstract:A novel and highly efficient wastewater treatments process for the removal of industrial dye was proposed in this study. The method involved the regeneration of Ce-Ni/sepiolite, which acted as an adsorbent/catalyst, exhausted with the cationic dye auramine O (AO)—a frequently-used industrial dye—under a stream of O2 hot gas. The Ce-Ni/sepiolite adsorbent/catalyst was successfully synthesized by impregnation and was characterized by using XRD, SEM, XPS, and BET techniques. An orthogonal experimental design method was applied to optimize the synthesis conditions of the Ce-Ni/sepiolite. These synthesis conditions used the regeneration efficiency/rate of the catalyst as the evaluation index under heated O2 gas stream regeneration. Ce-Ni/sepiolite exhibited remarkable adsorption and catalytic oxidation degradation qualities for AO. The regeneration rate of prepared Ce-Ni/sepiolite reached 112.9% after 1 hour at 500 °C under 6 L/min-1 of hot gas. The batch adsorption capacities were found to be 210.60 mg g-1 (25 °C), 243.90 mg g-1 (35 °C) and 263.16 mg g-1 (45 °C). 45 °C seems to allow for the optimum adsorption capacity. Ce-Ni/sepiolite also showed a high dynamic adsorption capacity, able to treat 48 bed volume (BV) of dye solution with a residual concentration of 0 mg/L when the ratio of diameter to height is 1: 2.5. The synthesized Ce-Ni/sepiolite can be used as an efficient adsorbent and catalyst in wastewater treatments. This further supports the prospective usability of the sepiolite adsorbent for dye removal in future industrial applications.

Abstract:Widespread and ineffective dye treatment in aquatic environment leads to serious pollution problems, threatening ecology and human health. Herein, manganese cerium bimetallic oxide cathode material (MnCeOx@GF) x @GF) was prepared by hydrothermal method combined with calcination, and the electrochemical Fenton degradation performance of a typical dye Rhodamine B (Rh B) was investigated. The results show that the degradation of Rh B by MnCeOx@GF x @GF can reach 96.5 % within 2 h in acidic environment and continue to perform effectively after 4 repeated experiments. Combined with SEM and electrochemical test results, it can be seen that the bimetallic composite oxides formed by manganese and cerium on the surface of the support can effectively enhance the catalytic activity of the material, the addition of cerium changes the morphology of manganese oxides and promotes the generation of multiple valence composite oxides of transition metals, and improves the degradation of Rh B. Based on the free radical masking experiments, hydroxyl radical (center dot OH) center dot OH) is the main active substance in the electro-Fenton degradation process. This work not only provides a way to design and manufacture cathode materials for in situ electrosynthesis of H2O2, 2 O 2 , but also provides an important reference for improving the reusability of cathodes for sustainable dye wastewater treatment.
In Situ Dual-Functional Water Purification with Simultaneous Oil Removal and Visible Light Catalysis

Abstract:Dual purification of both oily wastewater and dye-polluted water for enhancing the use of freshwater is an urgent task. We report herein, the facile synthesis of inorganic semiconductor nanomaterials anchored mesh for in situ dual-functional water purification. This resultant mesh combines the excellent capacity of oil removal and the advantage of photocatalytic performance for dye degradation under visible light irradiation at the same time. In addition, the mesh was easily regenerated and remained unaltered in photocatalytic performance over five successive dye degradation cycles. Given the innovative integration of special wettability and photocatalytic activity of such a semiconductor material under visible light for dual elimination of various pollutants from water, we anticipate that this approach will provide a promising pathway for versatile applications in oily wastewater treatment, water purification and so on.

Abstract:Ultrathin CeO2 nanowires with a diameter of 5 nm and an aspect ratio of more than 100 can be prepared by a one-step refluxing approach in a mixed solvent composed of water and ethanol without using any templates or surfactants. The formation mechanism of the as-synthesized ultrathin nanowires has been investigated. The as-synthesized CeO2 nanowires with a high surface area of 125.31 m2 g-1 exhibited excellent wastewater treatment performance with high removal capacities towards organic dyes and heavy metal ions. In addition, the as-synthesized CeO2 nanowires can adsorb Congo red selectively from a mixed solution composed of several dyes. Successful access to high quality ultrathin nanowires will make it possible for their potential application in catalysis and other fields.

Abstract:Over the past several years, the manufacturing and dispersal of naturally occurring dyes from various paint and textile companies have placed aquatic environments at an elevated risk of devastation. To address this pollution of the environment, it is imperative to focus on removing these dyes in order to address environmental pollution. Herein, we used hydrothermal technique to synthesize cerium-doped zinc nanoferrites anchored over graphitic carbon nitride (Ce 0.15 Zn 0.85 Fe 2 O 4 /g-CN), a photocatalyst that is both extremely adaptable and exceedingly efficient. The association between the catalytic efficiency and the material properties of the manufactured catalysts was examined with a diverse array of methods of characterization. The photodegradation efficacy of the Ce 0.15 Zn 0.85 Fe 2 O 4 /g-CN photocatalyst was examined using the methyl violet (MV) dye. The Ce 0.15 Zn 0.85 Fe 2 O 4 /g-CN photocatalyst exhibited an exceptional photodegradation of 97.19 % under solar light in comparison to pure ZnFe 2 O 4 (73.81 %) and Ce 0.15 Zn 0.85 Fe 2 O 4 (84.52 %), respectively, under constant conditions of reaction. The Ce 0.15 Zn 0.85 Fe 2 O 4 /g-CN photocatalyst's improvement in photodegradation of the MV dye was attributed to a rise in active sites and an elevation in surface area to 128.67 m 2 /g as a result of g-CN incorporation in the material and was much greater than ZnFe 2 O 4 (76.87 m 2 /g) and Ce 0.15 Zn 0.85 Fe 2 O 4 (92.08 m 2 /g). The reaction circumstances were also adjusted to ascertain the impact of multiple variables. Radical trapping agents' studies were employed to validate reactive oxygen species. The Ce 0.15 Zn 0.85 Fe 2 O 4 /g-CN photostability and recycling were assessed by executing four consecutive investigations under predetermined conditions for the reaction. Eventually, this research will yield an environmentally benign and economically viable photocatalyst for efficiently degrading MV dye in water reservoirs.

Abstract:The catalytic treatment of wastewater serves as an effective way to solve the problem of water pollution, in which non-homogeneous Fenton catalysts are widely used. However, the activity enhancement of non-homogeneous Fenton catalysts still remains a great challenge. Herein, self-assembled BiFeO3/CeO2 nanocatalytic materials with different molar ratios were successfully fabricated by a suspension blending method, following which the structure evolution was determined by various characterizations. The catalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB), rhodamine B (RhB), and saffron T (ST) were performed over the BiFeO3/CeO2 nanocatalytic materials. It was found that the 0.2BiFeO3:0.8CeO2 nanocatalytic materials exhibited an 80.8% degradation efficiency for RhB. The 0.6BiFeO3:0.4CeO2 nanocatalytic materials reached 81.1% and 48.7% for ST and MB, respectively. The BiFeO3/CeO2 nanocatalytic materials also showed a good stability during several cycles. The combination of CeO2 with BiFeO3 led to an enhanced activity for dye degradation, probably due to the electron transfer from ≡Fe2+ to ≡Ce4+. This study provides a new approach to dye degradation by using Fenton catalytic systems.

Abstract:The Fe3 O4@NiSiO3 nanoparticle was synthesized by solvothermal method and sol-gel method .It was characterized by XRD, TEM, BET and VSM.It was used as heterogeneous Fenton catalyst to degrade rhodamine B.The optimal reaction conditions are 5.5 of pH, 1.00 g· L-1 of catalyst dosage and 2.5% of H2 O2 dosage,the degradation efficiency of rhodamine B reached over 95%.After reusing 5 times the degradation efficiency was still stable at 95%.Acid scarlet 3R, methyl orange, methylene blue, malachite green were also used as target pollu-tants to study on the Fenton catalytic performance of Fe 3 O4@NiSiO3, the degradation efficiency of all dyes except the azo-dye reached over 95%.The Fe3 O4@NiSiO3 have good magnetic separability and recycling ability .Further research showed that Ni has a promoting effect on Fenton oxidation .
Fabrication of rare-earth cerium-doped nickel-copper ferrite as a promising photo-catalyst for congo red-containing wastewater treatment

Abstract:Synthetic organic dyes are becoming the major class of water pollutants leading to malignant detriments to the ecology. Consequently, this research focuses on remediating this circumstance utilizing a novel catalytic material, namely, cerium-doped spinel ferrite Ni0.6Cu0.4Ce x Fe2-x O4 (x = 0.0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5), developed using the chemical coprecipitation technique and characterized using FTIR, XRD, FE-SEM, EDX and VSM analysis. The particles have shown band gap values ranging from 4.29 to 2.01 eV. The as-synthesized nano-sized particles were employed as a photocatalyst to degrade the complex structure of congo red (CR) dye. About 91% of the dye was degraded with 60 mg of the catalyst under visible light irradiation with the highest cerium-doping (x = 1.5) at a pH below 6.8, which was the zero-surface charge pH for the particle. Batch studies were performed to optimize all the conditions, including the dose, concentration, pH, and different light energy sources. Recyclability of the catalyst was also investigated, which was supported by the higher stability of the recovered particles through XRD analysis. Reaction kinetics for this system were evaluated along with three isotherm models. Moreover, the scavenging test indicated that the major active species leading to this degradation was hole (h+), and a schematic degradation mechanism is presented. Following that, this model can successfully be used for wastewater treatment.
Enhanced Removal of Dye from Wastewater by Fenton Process Activated by Core-Shell NiCo2O4@FePc Catalyst

Abstract:To achieve efficient degradation of dye in wastewater, the core-shell nickel cobalt spinel coated with iron phthalocyanine (NiCo2O4@FePc) catalyst was prepared via a facile template method and investigated as heterogenous catalyst for degradation of dye in Fenton process. The catalysts were systematically characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), N-2 adsorption/desorption isotherms, X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis. The results indicated that the NiCo2O4@FePc catalyst exhibits core-shell structure with abundant oxygen vacancies and high specific surface area (261.9 m(2)/g). NiCo2O4@FePc showed much higher catalytic activity for the mineralization of (TOC removal rate > 90%) RhB than nickel cobalt spinel (NiCo2O4), iron phthalocyanine (FePc) and the physical mixture of NiCo2O4 and FePc (NiCo2O4-FePc-M). The radical scavenging experiments and reaction kinetics experiments revealed that the excellent catalytic perormance of NiCo2O4@FePc benefits from the efficient production of center dot O-2(-) and center dot OH radical. Moreover, the catalytic performance of NiCo2O4@FePc can be well maintained in the presence of inorganic anions (HCO3- and Cl-), natural organic matter or tap water. Besides, the liquid stability and resubility of NiCo2O4@FePc were demonstrated by filtration and recyling experiment. This work can provide new insight for construction of Fe-based heterogenous catalysts which are promising for the efficient elimination of organic pollutants. (C) 2020 Elsevier Ltd. Abstract:A novel dual functional CeO 2 /Cu 2 O/CuO nanocomposite was synthesized by a facile chemical method using Ce‐based Ce‐Al‐Cu glass ribbons as a precursor. The nanocomposite can rapidly degraded azo dyes including orange II (OII), methyl orange (MO), and congo red (CR) under dark conditions with no chemical and energy input. Under visible light irradiation, the composite also showed high efficiency for the decomposition azo‐free dyes such as Methylene blue (MB) and Rhodamine B (RhB). The excellent performances of the nanocomposite in both dark and light conditions are attributed to the synergistic effects of its composition and the nanoparticle structure that have large surface areas and contain many active sites, and to the formation of heterojunctions in the Ce/Cu Oxide. The high performance of this bi‐functional catalyst made from industrially‐prepared atomically homogenous amorphous metallic demonstrates the promise of high‐performance catalysts based on multi‐component metallic glass materials.

Abstract:Purpose This study aims to realize the multipurpose use of inorganic materials in adsorption treatment of pigment wastewater and preparation of core-modified Color Index Pigment Red 57:1 (C.I. Pigment Red 57:1, PR 57:1). Design/methodology/approach In this paper, the inorganic materials (sepiolite and SiO 2 ·nH 2 O) were used in both PR 57:1 production wastewater treatment and its core-modification. The inorganic material firstly adsorbed 3-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid (bon acid) in the pigment wastewater to reduce chemical oxygen demand. Then, the inorganic material adsorbed with bon acid was reused to prepare core-modified PR 57:1. Findings In the pigment wastewater adsorption experiment, it was found that under pH = 3, the adsorption percentage of bon acid by inorganic material can reached up to 46.00%. The pigment characterization results showed that the core-modified PR 57:1 had a core-shell structure. Under UV light irradiation for 1 h, the core-modified PR 57:1 prepared with sepiolite and SiO 2 ·nH 2 O showed total color difference ΔE value of 1.43 and 2.05, respectively, which was lower than that of unmodified PR 57:1 (ΔE = 2.89). In addition, the transmittance of pigment water suspension test results showed that the core-modified PR 57:1 showed better water dispersibility. Originality/value This paper attempts to develop a synergistic strategy based on the multipurpose use of inorganic materials in adsorption treatment of pigment wastewater and preparation of core-modified PR 57:1.

Abstract:A novel low‐cost π–π biomass‐derived black carbon modified g‐C3N4 coupled FeIn2S4 composite (i.e., FeInS/BC‐CN) photocatalyst is reported, which reveals significantly improved photocatalytic performance for the degradation of Eosin Yellow (EY) dye in aqueous solution. This work provides an innovative idea for the development of advanced photocatalysts to mitigate water pollution. The environmental deterioration caused by dye wastewater discharge has received considerable attention in recent decades. One of the most promising approaches to addressing the aforementioned environmental issue is the development of photocatalysts with high solar energy consumption efficiency for the treatment of dye‐contaminated water. In this study, a novel low‐cost π–π biomass‐derived black carbon modified g‐C3N4 coupled FeIn2S4 composite (i.e., FeInS/BC‐CN) photocatalyst is successfully designed and fabricated that reveals significantly improved photocatalytic performance for the degradation of Eosin Yellow (EY) dye in aqueous solution. Under dark and subsequent visible light irradiation, the amount optimized composite reveals 99% removal performance for EY dye, almost three‐fold compared to that of the pristine FeInS and BC‐CN counterparts. Further, it is confirmed by means of the electron spin resonance spectrometry, quenching experiments, and density functional theory (DFT) calculations, that the hydroxyl radicals (•OH) and superoxide radicals (•O2−) are the dominant oxidation species involved in the degradation process of EY dye. In addition, a systematic photocatalytic degradation route is proposed based on the resultant degradation intermediates detectedduring liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC‐MS/MS) analysis. This work provides an innovative idea for the development of advanced photocatalysts to mitigate water pollution.

Abstract:Extracting functional materials from industrial waste residues to absorb organic dyes can maximize waste reuse and minimize water pollution. However, the extraordinarily low purification efficiency still limits the practical application of this strategy. Herein, the lamellar NiOOH is in-situ anchored on the industrial waste red mud surface (ARM/NiOOH) as an adsorbent to purify organic dyes in wastewater. ARM/NiOOH adsorbent with high specific surface area and porosity provides considerable active sites for the congo red (CR), thereby significantly enhancing the removal efficiency of CR. Besides, we fit a reasonable adsorption model for ARM/NiOOH adsorbent and investigate its adsorption kinetics. Resultantly, ARM/NiOOH adsorbent can remarkably adsorb 348.0 mg g-1 CR within 5 min, which is 7.91 times that of raw RM. Our work provides a strategy for reusing industrial waste and purifying sewage pollution, which advances wastewater treatment engineering.
Ultra-efficient and selective adsorption of cationic dyes by Ti-doped SiO2 functionalized hydrophilic Fe3O4 nanoparticles with superior structural stability

Abstract:Removing cationic dyes from complex wastewater is significant in industrial wastewater treatment. In this study, we successfully developed a novel magnetic adsorbent, Fe3O4@Ti-SiO2 (FTS), a Ti-doped modified silicon-based material-coated magnetic nanoparticle. This adsorbent demonstrated enhanced selective adsorption capabilities for cationic dyes in complex wastewater under the synergistic interaction of Fe3O4 nanoparticles. The FTS composite exhibits superior specific surface area, pore volume, thermal stability, and surface charges, resulting in an ultra-efficient adsorption capacity to methylene blue (MB) (Qmax = 336.74 mg/g), which is 1.56 times higher than that of Ti-SiO2, 6.7 times higher than that of mesoporous silica particles, and superior to most of the reported silica nanocomposites. In addition, the mixed dye system, high ionic strength solution, and simulated wastewater column adsorption experiments showed that the adsorbent had excellent cationic selectivity, salt resistance, and practical application prospects. This condition is attributed to hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions between FTS and cationic dyes, which TGA, VSM, and XPS demonstrated. Moreover, after ten adsorption cycles, the magnetic material may be effectively recycled while maintaining over 97 % of its dye adsorption capability. In conclusion, FTS demonstrates excellent potential as a candidate for the selective adsorption and separation of cationic dyes from complex wastewater.

Abstract:In recent years, using waste iron ore tailings (IOT) as a starting material to synthesize new materials has become an emerging hot topic, but the remaining challenge is the lack of effective ways to maximize the use of each component in the IOT. In this work, two novel materials including the mesoporous zincsilite composite assembled by a layered structure with flower-like morphology and the willemite composite composed of ellipsoidal particles were synthesized from high-silicon IOT via a facile one-step hydrothermal reaction process. Due to the transformation from IOT to zincsilite composite, typical mesoporous structure was formed and the specific surface area was increased by 75.1 m2 g−1. The transformation mechanisms from IOT to zinc silicate composites were proposed based on the study of the synthesis process. The zincsilite composite shows fast adsorption rate and high adsorption capacity for MB, which is mainly attributed to the emerging mesopores and special layered structure. Specifically, the removal efficiency for methylene blue exceeds 97% within 10 min, and the maximum adsorption capacity reaches up to 180.5 mg g−1, which is over 9 times higher than that of raw IOT. Furthermore, analysis of adsorption mechanism demonstrated that the adsorption process was mainly caused by the synergistic effect of both hydrogen bonding and electrostatic attraction. The excellent adsorption property endows the composite with potential application in the field of dye wastewater treatment.

Abstract:One of the most widely used and promoted synthetic dyes in the world is azo dyes , and the treatment of azo dyes wastewater is a hot issue. Currently, advanced oxidation technology is able to treat dye wastewater efficiently and the most critical means is to seek for suitable catalysts to activate the free radicals. In this study, ZIF-67@CeO 2 composites were successfully synthesised by heating and refluxing and it degraded Congo red dye by activation of persulfate. The morphological structure of the composites was observed by using SEM, TEM , XPS, XRD, FT-IR and BET characterisation. In addition, the effects of different factors on the degradation of Congo red dye by the catalytic system were studied. And it was found that the best catalytic effect could be achieved at pH = 7, CeO 2 loading of 0.3 g, and composite and potassium persulfate dosage of 10 mg and 0.3 g/L, respectively, and the degradation rate of the Congo red dye reached 98.8 %. Furthermore, the composite was able to maintain a better catalytic degradation effect after 4 cycles of regeneration experiments. Therefore, the ZIF-67@CeO 2 composite as a new catalyst has a good application prospect in water treatment, which opens up a new avenue for the development of high-performance catalysts.

Abstract:In recent years, the extensive use of organic dyes has caused great pollution to the water environment. Zinc silicate with excellent adsorption and photocatalytic properties has been widely used in the treatment of organic dye wastewater. Therefore, we successfully prepared zinc silicate nanomaterials by simple hydrothermal method using zinc sulfate heptahydrate (ZnSO 4 ·7H 2 O) and tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) as raw materials, and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as surfactant, and applied them to the treatment of organic dye wastewater. The composition, morphology and specific surface area of zinc silicate nanomaterials were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) method. The results show that the phase composition of the products has a transformation from hemimorphite Zn 4 Si 2 O 7 (OH) 2 ·H 2 O to vermiculite Zn 2 SiO 4 , and the morphology has also an obvious change from nanosheets, nanoflowers to nanoparticles with the increase of TEOS content. The specific surface area and pore volume are 199.8 m 2 /g and 0.441 cm 3 /g for the flower-like zinc silicate nanomaterials. The zinc silicate nanomaterials show excellent adsorption and photocatalytic properties for organic dyes from aqueous solutions, and the maximum removal efficiencies can reach 89.8% and 96.2% for rhodamine B (RhB) and methylene blue (MB), respectively.

Abstract:In order to effectively eliminate dyestuff in aquatic environment under solar irradiation, the europium-nitrogen (EuN) co-doped TiO2/Sepiolite nanocomposites were successfully fabricated via microwave-hydrothermal method. The effects of Eu and N contents on the chemical properties and crystal structure of the obtained nanocomposites were characterized. It was found that the carrier sepiolite was uniformly covered by doped-TiO2 nanoparticles and the doped Eu is beneficial for the growth of anatase crystallite. Furthermore, doped N extended the absorption to the visible region, and the doped EuIII increased the adsorption ability further. The visible-light photocatalytic activities of the samples were evaluated for degradation of orange G. The results showed that the co-doped sample presented enhanced photocatalytic activity compared to undoped and mono-doped samples. The increase in degradation efficiency can be ascribed to the synergistic effects of Eu and N co-doping. Among all samples, the optimum EuIII doped content was 0.6% for the co-doped sample. The co-doped sample can also effectively treat real textile dye wastewater with over 70% COD removal efficiency in 3 h of irradiation time. This research demonstrates the co-doped TiO2/Sepiolite nanocomposites have a prospective application in textile dye wastewater treatment.
