Abstract:We compare relative cohomology theories arising from using different proper resolutions of modules. Criteria for the vanishing of such distinctions are given in certain cases, and we show that this is related to the generalized Tate cohomology theory. We also demonstrate that the two balance properties admitted by the two different cohomology theories are actually equivalent in some cases. As applications, we recover many results obtained earlier in various contexts. At last we investigate derived functors with respect to the Auslander and Bass classes.

Abstract:The localization technique has been proved to be a useful tool in studying the Gromov-Witten invariants as was shown in the proof of the MarinoVafa formula and a new proof of the Witten conjecture/Kontsevich theorem. Especially when applied to the relative stable moduli, it allows us to express the Gromov-Witten invariants in terms of other invariants such as double Hurwitz numbers or another type of Gromov-Witten invariants. In this paper, we present a universal method to obtain recursion relations on the Gromov-Witten type invariants: let ω ∈ H∗(X) be any natural cohomology class on the target space X , we can determine the Gromov-Witten invariants ∫
On relative constructible sheaves and integral transforms

Abstract:The aim of this note is threefold. The first is to obtain a simple characterization of relative constructible sheaves when the parameter space is projective. The second is to study the relative Fourier-Mukai for relative constructible sheaves and for relative regular holonomic $\mathcal D$-modules and prove they induce relative equivalences of categories. The third is to introduce and study the notions of relative constructible functions and relative Euler-Poincaré index. We prove that the relative Euler-Poincaré index provides an isomorphism between the Grothendieck group of the derived category of complexes with bounded relative $\mathbb R$-constructible cohomology and the ring of relative constructible functions.

Abstract:Let $\mathscr{A}$ be a small abelian category. For a closed subbifunctor $F$ of $\Ext_{\mathscr{A}}^{1}(-,-)$, Buan has generalized the construction of the Verdier's quotient category to get a relative derived category, where he localized with respect to $F$-acyclic complexes. In this paper, the homological properties of relative derived categories are discussed, and the relation with derived categories is given. For Artin algebras, using relatively derived categories, we give a relative version on derived equivalences induced by $F$-tilting complexes. We discuss the relationships between relative homological dimensions and relative derived equivalences.

Relative tilting theory in abelian categories I: Auslander-Buchweitz-Reiten approximations theory in subcategories and cotorsion pairs

Abstract:In this paper we introduce a special kind of relative (co)resolutions associated to a pair of classes of objects in an abelian category $\mathcal{C}.$ We will see that, by studying these relative (co)resolutions, we get a possible generalization of a part of the Auslander-Buchweitz approximation theory that is useful for developing $n$-$\mathcal{X}$-tilting theory in [4]. With this goal, new concepts as $\mathcal{X}$-complete and $\mathcal{X}$-hereditary pairs are introduced as a generalization of complete and hereditary cotorsion pairs. These pairs appear in a natural way in the study of the category of representations of a quiver in an abelian category [5]. Our main results will include an existence theorem for relative approximations, among other results related with closure properties of relative (co)resolution classes and relative homological dimensions which are essential in the development of $n$-$\mathcal{X}$-tilting theory in [4].

Relative cycles with moduli and regulator maps

Abstract:Let X be a separated scheme of finite type over a field k and D a non-reduced effective Cartier divisor on it. We attach to the pair (X, D) a cycle complex with modulus, whose homotopy groups - called higher Chow groups with modulus - generalize additive higher Chow groups of Bloch-Esnault, Rülling, Park and Krishna-Levine, and that sheafified on $X_{Zar}$ gives a candidate definition for a relative motivic complex of the pair, that we compute in weight 1. When X is smooth over k and D is such that $D_{red}$ is a normal crossing divisor, we construct a fundamental class in the cohomology of relative differentials for a cycle satisfying the modulus condition, refining El-Zein's explicit construction. This is used to define a natural regulator map from the relative motivic complex of (X,D) to the relative de Rham complex. When X is defined over $\mathbb{C}$, the same method leads to the construction of a regulator map to a relative version of Deligne cohomology, generalizing Bloch's regulator from higher Chow groups. Finally, when X is moreover connected and proper over $\mathbb{C}$, we use relative Deligne cohomology to define relative intermediate Jacobians with modulus $J^r_{X|D}$ of the pair (X,D). For r= dim X, we show that $J^r_{X|D}$ is the universal regular quotient of the Chow group of 0-cycles with modulus.

Abstract:We systematically investigate the functors between sites which induce morphisms of relative toposes. In particualar, we establish a relative version of Diaconescu's theorem, characterizing the relative geometric morphisms towards a relative sheaf topos in terms of a notion of flat (equivalently, filtered) functor relative to the base topos.

Abstract:Assume that $R$ is a non-right perfect ring. Then there is a proper class of classes of (right $R$-) modules closed under transfinite extensions lying between the classes $\mathcal P _0$ of projective modules, and $\mathcal F _0$ of flat modules. These classes can be defined as variants of the class $\mathcal F \mathcal M$ of absolute flat Mittag-Leffler modules: either as their restricted versions (lying between $\mathcal P _0$ and $\mathcal F \mathcal M$), or their relative versions (between $\mathcal F \mathcal M$ and $\mathcal F _0$). In this survey, we will deal with applications of these classes in relative homological algebra and algebraic geometry. The classes $\mathcal P _0$ and $\mathcal F _0$ are known to provide for approximations, and minimal approximations, respectively. We will show that the classes of restricted flat relative Mittag-Leffler modules, and flat relative Mittag-Leffler modules, have rather different approximation properties: the former classes always provide for approximations, but the latter do not, except for the boundary case of $\mathcal F _0$. The notion of an (infinite dimensional) vector bundle is known to be Zariski local for all schemes, the key point of the proof being that projectivity ascends and descends along flat and faithfully flat ring homomorphisms, respectively. We will see that the same holds for the properties of being a $\kappa$-restricted flat Mittag-Leffler module for each cardinal $\kappa \geq \aleph_0$, and also a flat $\mathcal Q$-Mittag-Leffler module whenever $\mathcal Q$ is a definable class of finite type. Thus, as in the model case of vector bundles, Zariski locality holds for flat quasi-coherent sheaves induced by each of these classes of modules. Moreover, we will see that the notion of a locally $n$-tilting quasi-coherent sheaf is Zariski local for all $n \geq 0$.

Abstract:In this paper we identify the cotangent to the derived stack of representations of a quiver $Q$ with the derived moduli stack of modules over the Ginzburg dg-algebra associated with $Q$. More generally, we extend this result to finite type dg-categories, to a relative setting as well, and to deformations of these. It allows us to recover and generalize some results of Yeung, and leads us to the discovery of seemingly new lagrangian subvarieties in the Hilbert scheme of points in the plane.

We introduce the notion of relative tilting classes in an extriangulated category and then give some equivalent characterizations. On the above basis, we discuss the relations between relative homological dimensions and relative (co)resolution dimensions in the context of relative tilting classes. We also introduce the notion of relative tilting triples, and then discuss the relations between them.

Abstract:This paper provides some technical results needed in "Formalism for Relative Gromov-Witten Invariants." We study line-bundles on the moduli stacks of relative stable and rubber maps that are used to define relative Gromov-Witten invariants in the sense of J. Li. Relations between these line-bundles yield degeneration formulae. In addition we prove a technical result called the Trivial Cylinders Theorem.

Abstract:We construct small resolutions of the moduli space $\overline{Q}_n$ of stable scaled $n$-marked lines of Ziltener and Ma'u--Woodward and of the moduli space $\overline{P}_n$ of stable $n$-marked ${\mathbb G}_a$-rational trees introduced in earlier work. The resolution of $\overline{P}_n$ is the augmented wonderful variety corresponding to the graphic matroid of the complete graph. The resolution of $\overline{Q}_n$ is a further blowup, also a wonderful model of an arrangement in ${\mathbb P}^{n-1}$.

A relative orientation for the moduli space of stable maps to a del Pezzo surface

Abstract:We prove orientation results for evaluation maps of moduli spaces of rational stable maps to del Pezzo surfaces over a field, both in characteristic $0$ and in positive characteristic. These results and the theory of degree developed in a sequel produce quadratically enriched counts of rational curves over non-algebraically closed fields of characteristic not $2$ or $3$. Orientations are constructed in two steps. First, the ramification locus of the evaluation map is shown to be the divisor in the moduli space of stable maps where image curves have a cusp. Second, this divisor is related to the discriminant of a branched cover of the moduli space given generically by pairs of points on the universal curve with the same image.

Abstract:Recently, Gorenstein dimensions relative to a semidualizing module have been the subject of numerous studies with interesting extensions of the classical homological dimensions. Although all these studies share the same direction, a common basis, and similar final goals, there is no common framework encompassing them as parts of a whole, progressing, on different fronts, towards the same end. We provide this general and global framework in the context of abelian categories, standardizing terminology and notation: we establish a general context by defining Gorenstein categories relative to two classes of objects ((X,Y)-Gorenstein categories, denoted G(X,Y)), and carry out a study of the homological dimensions associated with them. We prove, under some mild standard conditions, the corresponding version of the Comparison Lemma that ensures the consistency of a homological-dimension theory. We show that Ext functors can be used as tools to compute these G(X,Y)-dimensions, and we compare the dimensions obtained using the classes G(X) with those computed using G(X,Y). We also initiate a research of the global dimensions obtained with these classes G(X,Y) and find conditions for them to be finite. Finally, we show that these classes of Gorenstein objects are closely and interestingly related to the Foxby classes induced by a pair of functors. Namely, we prove that the Auslander and Bass classes are indeed G(X,Y) categories for some specific classes X and Y.

Abstract:This article contributes to the relative BGG-machinery for parabolic geometries. Starting from a relative tractor bundle, this machinery constructs a sequence of differential operators that are naturally associated to the geometry in question. In many situations of interest, it is known that this sequence provides a resolution of a sheaf that can locally be realized as a pullback from a local leaf space of a foliation that is naturally available in this situation. An explicit description of the latter sheaf was only available under much more restrictive assumptions.

Abstract:First notions of relative complexity function and relative sensitivity are introduced. It turns out that for any open factor map pi : (X, T) -> (Y, S) between topological dynamical systems with minimal (Y, S), pi is positively equicontinuous if and only if the relative complexity function is bounded for each open cover of X; and that any non-trivial weakly mixing extension is relatively sensitive. Moreover, a relative version of the notable result that any M-system is sensitive if it is not minimal is obtained. Then notions of relative scattering and relative Mycielski's chaos are introduced. A relative disjointness theorem involving relative scattering is given.
