Abstract:Let A be an abelian category with enough projective objects and let X be a full subcategory of A. We define Gorenstein projective objects with respect to X and YX , respectively, where YX={Y ∈ Ch(A)|Y is acyclic and ZnY ∈ X}. We point out that under certain hypotheses, these two Gorensein projective objects are related in a nice way. In particular, if P(A) ⊆ X , we show that X ∈ Ch(A) is Gorenstein projective with respect to YX if and only if X is Gorenstein projective with respect to X for each i, when X is a self-orthogonal class or X is Hom(−,X )-exact. Subsequently, we consider the relationships of Gorenstein projective dimensions between them. As an application, if A is of finite left Gorenstein projective global dimension with respect to X and contains an injective cogenerator, then we find a new model structure on Ch(A) by Hovey’s results in [14].

Abstract:From certain triangle functors, called nonnegative functors, between the bounded derived categories of abelian categories with enough projective objects, we introduce their stable functors which are certain additive functors between the stable categories of the abelian categories. The construction generalizes a previous work by Hu and Xi. We show that the stable functors of nonnegative functors have nice exactness property and are compatible with composition of functors. This allows us to compare conveniently the homological properties of objects linked by the stable functors. In particular, we prove that the stable functor of a derived equivalence between two arbitrary rings provides an explicit triangle equivalence between the stable categories of Gorenstein projective modules. This generalizes a result of Y. Kato. Our results can also be applied to provide shorter proofs of some known results on homological conjectures.

Abstract:We introduce the relative Gorenstein defect category of an abelian category with respect to an admissible subcategory, generalizing the Gorenstein defect categories of P. A. Bergh, D. Jorgensen and S. Oppermann. Under a mild condition of the precovering property for the relative Gorenstein category, we show that the relative Gorenstein defect category is triangle equivalent to the relative singularity category with respect to the relative Gorenstein category.We also introduce relative Ding projective defect categories and, under a similar condition, relate it to the relative singularity category with respect to the relative Ding projective category. Analogous results for relative Ding injective defect categories are also presented.

Abstract:Recently, Gorenstein dimensions relative to a semidualizing module have been the subject of numerous studies with interesting extensions of the classical homological dimensions. Although all these studies share the same direction, a common basis, and similar final goals, there is no common framework encompassing them as parts of a whole, progressing, on different fronts, towards the same end. We provide this general and global framework in the context of abelian categories, standardizing terminology and notation: we establish a general context by defining Gorenstein categories relative to two classes of objects ((X,Y)-Gorenstein categories, denoted G(X,Y)), and carry out a study of the homological dimensions associated with them. We prove, under some mild standard conditions, the corresponding version of the Comparison Lemma that ensures the consistency of a homological-dimension theory. We show that Ext functors can be used as tools to compute these G(X,Y)-dimensions, and we compare the dimensions obtained using the classes G(X) with those computed using G(X,Y). We also initiate a research of the global dimensions obtained with these classes G(X,Y) and find conditions for them to be finite. Finally, we show that these classes of Gorenstein objects are closely and interestingly related to the Foxby classes induced by a pair of functors. Namely, we prove that the Auslander and Bass classes are indeed G(X,Y) categories for some specific classes X and Y.

Abstract:The notion of relative derived category with respect to a subcategory is introduced. A triangle-equivalence, which extends a theorem of Gao and Zhang [Gorenstein derived categories, J. Algebra 323 (2010) 2041–2057] to the bounded below case, is obtained. Moreover, we interpret the relative derived functor [Formula: see text] as the morphisms in such derived category and give two applications.

Abstract:Let $\mathscr{A}$ be a small abelian category. For a closed subbifunctor $F$ of $\Ext_{\mathscr{A}}^{1}(-,-)$, Buan has generalized the construction of the Verdier's quotient category to get a relative derived category, where he localized with respect to $F$-acyclic complexes. In this paper, the homological properties of relative derived categories are discussed, and the relation with derived categories is given. For Artin algebras, using relatively derived categories, we give a relative version on derived equivalences induced by $F$-tilting complexes. We discuss the relationships between relative homological dimensions and relative derived equivalences.

Especially, a triangle-equivalence of Ding derived categories over Ding–Chen rings and some applications are obtained. Generalized Tate cohomology with respect to Ding projective and Ding injective modules and related balance are discussed.

Abstract:The Gorenstein derived category is introduced and studied via Verdier’s localization of homotopy category respect to the saturated multiplicative system of Gorenstein quasi-isomorphisms; the relation between the Gorenstein derived category and the derived category is given; for a Gorenstein ring or a finite-dimensional k-algebra, the corresponding bounded Gorenstein derived categories are realized as the homotopy categories of Gorenstein projective objects. This interprets the Gorenstein derived functors as the Hom functor of the corresponding bounded Gorenstein derived category. The Gorensteinness of a ring is measured by its Gorenstein singularity category; and the stable category of a Frobenius category is embedded into the Gorenstein singularity category as a triangulated subcategory.

Abstract:Let R be a right coherent ring and D b ( R -Mod) the bounded derived category of left R -modules. Denote by D^b( R - Mod)_[ GF,C] the subcategory of D b ( R -Mod) consisting of all complexes with both finite Gorenstein flat dimension and cotorsion dimension and K b ( F ∩ C ) the bounded homotopy category of flat cotorsion left R-modules. We prove that the quotient triangulated category D^b( R - Mod)_[ GF,C] / K b ( F ∩ C ) is triangle-equivalent to the stable category GF ∩ C of the Frobenius category of all Gorenstein flat and cotorsion left R-modules.

Abstract:In the paper, we show that a uniformly bounded and nonnegative triangle functor between Gorenstein derived categories of two CM-algebras induces a Gorenstein-projectively stable functor between the corresponding Gorenstein-projectively stable categories. Furthermore, we show that a ladder of Gorenstein derived categories of CM-finite algebras induces a recollement of Gorenstein-projectively stable categories under certain nice conditions. As a byproduct, a Gorenstein derived equivalence induces a Gorenstein-projectively stable equivalence for CM-finite Gorenstein algebras.

Triangle Equivalences Involving Gorenstein FP-injective Modules

Abstract:Recently, Hu et al. [16] introduced the notion of Gorenstein FP-injective modules and investigated a notion of Gorenstein FP-injective dimension for complexes. Let R be a left coherent ring and D-b(R-Mod) the bounded derived category of left R-modules. It is proved that the quotient triangulated category of the subcategory of D-b(R-Mod) consisting of complexes with both finite Gorenstein FP-injective dimension and FP-projective dimension by the bounded homotopy category of FP-projective-injective left R-modules is triangle-equivalent to the stable category < of the Frobenius category of all Gorenstein FP-injective and FP-projective left R-modules. Note that a similar argument is also valid for the case of Gorenstein injective left R-modules. We extend a triangle equivalence established by Beligiannis involving Gorenstein injective left R-modules from rings with finite left Gorenstein global dimension to arbitrary rings.

Abstract:Let [Formula: see text] be a Hopf algebroid and [Formula: see text] a left [Formula: see text]-module algebra. In this paper, we mainly present the duality theorem for the smash product [Formula: see text], and making use of integral theory for Hopf algebroids, we investigate the stability of Gorenstein injective pre-envelopes and Gorenstein projective precovers between the category of [Formula: see text]-modules and the category of [Formula: see text]-modules. Moreover, we establish the relationship between Gorenstein global dimension of [Formula: see text] and that of [Formula: see text], and prove that [Formula: see text] has finite representation type, resp. is selfinjective, resp. is CM-finite [Formula: see text]-Gorenstein, if and only if [Formula: see text] has the same property under suitable conditions. As an application, we investigate the representation dimension of the lower triangular matrix Artin algebra [Formula: see text].

Abstract:A model structure on a category is a formal way of introducing a homotopy theory on that category, and if the model structure is abelian and hereditary, its homotopy category is known to be triangulated. So a good way to both build and model a triangulated category is to build a hereditary abelian model structure. Given a ring $R$ and a (non necessarily semidualizing) left $R$-module $C$, we introduce and study new concepts of relative Gorenstein cotorsion and cotorsion modules: $\rm G_C$-cotorsion and (strongly) $\mathcal{C}_C$-cotorsion. As an application, we prove that there is a unique hereditary abelian model structure on the category of left $R$-modules, in which the cofibrations are the monomorphisms with $\rm G_C$-flat cokernel and the fibrations are the epimorphisms with $\mathcal{C}_C$-cotorsion kernel belonging to the Bass class $\mathcal{B}_C(R)$. In the second part, when $C$ is a semidualizing $(R,S)$-bimodule, we investigate the existence of abelian model structures on the category of left (resp., right) $R$-modules where the cofibrations are the epimorphisms (resp., monomorphisms) with kernel (resp., cokernel) belonging to the Bass (resp., Auslander) class $\mathcal{B}_C(R)$ (resp., $\mathcal{A}_C(R)$). We also study the class of $\rm G_C$-flat modules and the Bass class from the Auslander-Buchweitz approximation theory point of view. We show that they are part of weak AB-contexts. As the concept of weak AB-context can be dualized, we also give dual results that involve the class of $\rm G_C$-cotorsion modules and the Auslander class.

Abstract:Let $F\colon \mathcal{C} \to \mathcal{E}$ be a functor from a category $\mathcal{C}$ to a homological (Borceux-Bourn) or semi-abelian (Janelidze-Márki-Tholen) category $\mathcal{E}$. We investigate conditions under which the homology of an object $X$ in $\mathcal{C}$ with coefficients in the functor $F$, defined via projective resolutions in $\mathcal{C}$, remains independent of the chosen resolution. Consequently, the left derived functors of $F$ can be constructed analogously to the classical abelian case. Our approach extends the concept of chain homotopy to a non-additive setting using the technique of imaginary morphisms. Specifically, we utilize the approximate subtractions of Bourn-Janelidze, originally introduced in the context of subtractive categories. This method is applicable when $\mathcal{C}$ is a pointed regular category with finite coproducts and enough projectives, provided these projectives are closed under protosplit subobjects, a new condition introduced in this article and naturally satisfied in the abelian context. We further assume that the functor $F$ meets certain exactness conditions: for instance, it may be protoadditive and preserve proper morphisms and binary coproducts - conditions that amount to additivity when $\mathcal{C}$ and $\mathcal{E}$ are abelian categories. Within this framework, we develop a basic theory of derived functors, compare it with the simplicial approach, and provide several examples.

Abstract:We compare relative cohomology theories arising from using different proper resolutions of modules. Criteria for the vanishing of such distinctions are given in certain cases, and we show that this is related to the generalized Tate cohomology theory. We also demonstrate that the two balance properties admitted by the two different cohomology theories are actually equivalent in some cases. As applications, we recover many results obtained earlier in various contexts. At last we investigate derived functors with respect to the Auslander and Bass classes.

Abstract:We generalize the monomorphism category from quiver (with monomial relations) to arbitrary finite dimensional algebras by a homological definition. Given two finite dimension algebras $A$ and $B$, we use the special monomorphism category Mon(B, A-Gproj) to describe some Gorenstein projective bimodules over the tensor product of $A$ and $B$. If one of the two algebras is Gorenstein, we give a sufficient and necessary condition for Mon(B, A-Gproj) being the category of all Gorenstein projective bimodules. In addition, If both $A$ and $B$ are Gorenstein, we can describe the category of all Gorenstein projective bimodules via filtration categories. Similarly, in this case, we get the same result for infinitely generated Gorenstein projective bimodules.

Abstract:Let $\varphi\colon R\rightarrow A$ be a ring homomorphism, where $R$ is a commutative noetherian ring and $A$ is a finite $R$-algebra. We provide criteria for detecting the ascent and descent of Gorenstein homological properties. %As an application, one can deduce a result that supports a question of Avramov and Foxby. We observe that the ascent and descent of Gorenstein homological property can detect the Gorenstein properties of rings along $\varphi$. Finally, we describe when $\varphi$ induces a triangle equivalence between the stable categories of finitely generated Gorenstein projective modules over $R$ and $A$.

Abstract:Let be a bi-complete duality pair. We consider when the relative Gorenstein modules with respect to such a duality pair coincide with the classical homological modules. As applications, we characterize (weak) global dimension via such a duality pair, characterize strongly CM-freeness of flat-typed -Gorenstein rings and obtain the compactly-generatedness of some relative derived categories. Applying the results into frequent duality pairs, our results unify the corresponding results for Gorenstein AC-modules and Ding modules.
