Abstract:Organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite materials have garnered considerable interest due to their potential in optoelectronic applications. Herein, we assemble a novel one-dimensional organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite from the organic cation with trans-configuration, (trans-4-methylcyclohexylammonium)CdCl3 (compound 1), which undergoes successive high-temperature structural phase transitions accompanied by dual switchable dielectric anomalies. The variable-temperature structural analyses indicate that the phase transition from the triclinic P (1) over bar to the monoclinic space group P21/c at 385 K is driven by the swinging motion of half organic cations, while the subsequent transition to the orthorhombic space group Cmcm at 436 K is attributed to the order-disorder transformation of all organic cations. Moreover, compound 1 exhibits semiconducting characteristics and blue light emission with a remarkably long lifetime of 9.94 ns. These findings are poised to inspire the design of novel multifunctional hybrid perovskites with superior performance.

Abstract:Smart stimulus-responsive materials, which can automatically respond to external stimuli (thermal/optical/electrical) and rapidly switch between high/low states (switch ON/OFF), have been an important feature in high-tech fields such as smart electronic devices, the Internet of things, robots and so on. However, the effective design and development of these materials with simple fabrication methods, multiple response modes and logical control features are still facing enormous challenges. Herein, the star family, organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites, embraces a new member, [C5H14N](2)center dot[CdCl4] (1), which simultaneously displays rapid dielectric and fluorescence response under the stimulus of heat. Specifically, 1 exhibits a phase transition below room temperature (T-c = 239 K, and Delta T < 8 K) including a thermal anomaly, dielectric transition, and symmetry breaking. And the Mn-doped crystal could exhibit temperature-dependent red luminescence under UV excitation with a high signal-to-noise ratio of 3. Besides, the dielectric/fluorescent dual response triggered by heat exhibits a rapid response and high fatigue resistance. This finding will be a further step to the practical application of stimulus-responsive materials based on two-dimensional perovskites in smart electronic devices.

Abstract:Intelligent multifunctional materials are indispensable for the electronic devices, but the existing applied counterparts have the disadvantage that their structures cannot be adjusted to meet diversified application requirements. Therefore, organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites with the inherent advantage of structural diversity are expected to become promising intelligent multifunctional materials. Based on the diversity of perovskites mentioned above, we have reported a series of dielectric switches. Here, a new one-dimensional organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite (N-fluoroethyl-N-methylmorpholine)PbBr3 was reported. In this distorted octahedral perovskite, a step-like dielectric switching was observed at around 343 K upon heating and 325 K upon cooling. Simultaneously, photoluminescence is also related to the highly distorted octahedron, and this one-dimensional Pb-based halide exhibits a red-light with CIE chromaticity coordinates of (0.56, 0.42) upon ultraviolet photoexcitation. In short, the reversible/switchable dielectric phase transition and photoluminescence characteristic in this hybrid perovskite was successfully achieved, which are expected to be applied in optoelectronic devices and dielectric switches, and promote the development of organic-inorganic hybrid multifunctional materials. Second-Order Nonlinear Switching and Photoluminescence Properties of Cd-Based Hybrid Perovskite with High-Temperature Phase Transition

Abstract:Recently, organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites exhibiting facile structural phase transitions have accumulated significant attention due to their switchable second-order nonlinear optical (NLO) properties, which hold significant promise for next-generation intelligent optoelectronic devices. In this study, we present a novel one-dimensional hexagonal hybrid perovskite, (4-methoxypiperidinium)CdCl3, which undergoes a reversible high-temperature structural phase transition at 389 K. Notably, (4-methoxypiperidinium)CdCl3 demonstrates switchable second-order NLO and dielectric properties, accompanied by symmetry breaking from the centrosymmetric Pnma to noncentrosymmetric Pna21 space group. Variable-temperature structure analyses reveal that this transition is mainly driven by the order-disorder transformation of the 4-methoxypiperidinium cations. Furthermore, it also features a promising photoluminescence performance with blue-light emission and a long lifetime of 25.34 ns. It is anticipated that this study will expand the family of hybrid perovskites exhibiting high-temperature phase transitions and offer valuable guidance for the design of new NLO switching materials with superior optoelectronic properties.

Abstract:Organic-inorganic hybrid lead halide perovskites have attracted great interest for their use in promising optoelectronic applications. However, reports of photoluminescent perovskite molecular ferroelastic semiconductors with sequential high-Tc phase transitions have been scarce. In this work, a one-dimensional lead bromide hybrid perovskite [N,N-dimethylethanolammonium]PbBr3 has been synthesized, undergoing high-Tc sequential phase transitions at around 351 and 444 K, higher than those of most previously discovered hybrid perovskite phase transition materials. The specific intermolecular hydrogen bond between cationic molecules provides the greatest contribution to its high Tc by increasing the barrier of molecular motion under the temperature stimuli. The prominent ferroelastic domain evolution is visually observed under orthogonally polarized light. In addition, [N,N-dimethylethanolammonium]PbBr3 exhibits semiconducting and orange light emission characteristics. This finding opens up an avenue for designing high-performance ferroelastic materials and provides great motivation for discovering new multifunctional materials for the next generation of smart devices.
Switchable Nonlinear Optical and Tunable Luminescent Properties Triggered by Multiple Phase Transitions in a Perovskite-Like Compound.

Abstract:A new perovskite-like inorganic-organic hybrid compound [Et3(n-Pr)P][Cd(dca)3] (1) (where [Et3(n-Pr)P]+ is the propyltriethylphosphonium cation and dca is a dicyanamide ligand) was discovered to undergo three reversible phase transitions at 270 K (T1), 386 K (T2), and 415 K (T3), respectively. The variable-temperature single-crystal X-ray structural analyses reveal that these sequential phase transitions originate from the deformations of the [Cd(dca)3]- frameworks and the concomitant reorientations of the [Et3(n-Pr)P]+ guest cations. It is found that 1 possesses a sensitive nonlinear optical (NLO) switching at T2 with a large contrast of ∼40 within a narrow temperature range of ∼7 K. Furthermore, 1 shows intriguing photoluminescence (PL) property, and the PL intensity suffers a plunge near T3. The multiple phase transitions, switchable NLO and tunable luminescent properties simultaneously exist in this inorganic-organic perovskite-like hybrid compound, suggesting its great potential application in molecular switches and photoelectric field.

Abstract:Thermochromic perovskites, renowned for their tunable bandgap, high absorption coefficient, and reversible color changes, emerge as promising candidates for applications in smart windows. These advancements not only have the potential to enhance occupant comfort but also contribute significantly to reducing energy consumption in buildings. Here, we present a two‐dimensional lead‐free organic‐inorganic hybrid perovskite [Cyclobutylammonium]2CuCl4 which shows phase transitions from C2/c to P21/c to P21/c space group at 319.5 K and 348.8 K, respectively. Accompanying these transitions is a fascinating, reversible phase structure‐dependent thermochromic behavior, manifesting as a vibrant sequence from yellow to brown to slightly dark brown. Most importantly, the demonstrated ability to switch stably between high and low dielectric states indicates the enormous potential of this material as a dielectric switch. This non‐toxic thermoresponsive perovskite, characterized by its appropriate transition temperatures, reversible phase structure‐dependent thermochromism, and stable dielectric switching behavior, is expected to generate significant interest within the fields of thermoresponsive and dielectric switching materials. The integration of these features not only positions this perovskite as a noteworthy subject of scientific inquiry but also opens avenues for practical applications in diverse fields.

Abstract:Hybrid organic-inorganic perovskite (HOIP) have received tremendous scientific attention because of the phase transition and photovoltaic properties. However, achieving the special perovskite structure with both two-step dielectric response and luminescence characteristics is rarely reported. Herein, we report an organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite, [(BA)(2)center dot PbI4] (Compound 1, BA=n-butylamine) by introducing flexible organic cations (HBA(+)), with direct mid-band gap as 2.28 eV. Interestingly, this material exhibits two-step reversible dielectric response at 350 K and 460 K (in heating process), respectively. Besides, the photoluminescence was found: it emits charming green light under 365 nm lamp (Photoluminescence quantum yield is 9.52 %). The outstanding two-step dielectric response and luminescence characteristics of this compound might pave the way for the application of dielectric and ferroelectric functional materials in temperature sensors and mechanical switches.

Abstract:A novel organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite crystal, [ClC6H4(CH2)2NH3]2CuBr4 (1), having experienced an invertible high-temperature phase transition near Tc (the Curie temperature Tc = 355 K), has been successfully synthesized. The phase-transition characteristics for compound 1 are thoroughly revealed by specific heat capacity (Cp), differential thermal analysis, and differential scanning calorimetry tests, possessing 16 K broad thermal hysteresis. Multiple-temperature powder X-ray diffraction analysis further proves the phase-transition behavior of compound 1. Moreover, compound 1 exhibits a significant steplike dielectric response near Tc, revealing that it can be deemed to be a promising dielectric switching material. The variable-temperature fluorescence experiments show distinct photoluminescence (PL) changes of compound 1. Further investigation and calculation disclose that the fluorescence lifetime of compound 1 can reach as long as 55.46 μs, indicating that it can be a potential PL material. All of these researches contribute a substitutable avenue in the design and construction of neoteric phase-transition compounds combining high Curie temperature and PL properties.

Abstract:The one-dimensional (1D) ABX(3)-type perovskite [(CH3)(3)PCH2F]CdCl2Br (1) has been obtained on the basis of the design of an organic-inorganic hybrid. Strikingly, it experiences sequential phase transitions at around 295 and 336 K, respectively. Given the noticeable steplike dielectric anomalies in the vicinity of 295 K, 1 is identified as a promising dielectric-switchable material. According to the single-crystal structure analysis, the order-to-disorder transformation of the [(CH3)(3) PCH2F](+) cation is the main reason for the phase transitions and the change of space group from the orthorhombic Pnma (No. 62) to the hexagonal P6(3)/m (No. 176). This design of a perovskite structure will inspire more advances in the ever-growing field of switchable functional materials.

Abstract:The rich phase structures of perovskite derivatives have attracted extensive attention and can be applied in the fields of optoelectronics due to their high emission efficiency and tunable emission. Herein, we explored a phase-selective solution synthetic route to obtain different Cd-based perovskite derivatives. First, the pristine tetragonal Cs7Cd3Br13 was obtained by a solvothermal method, and its photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) was boosted from 8.28% to 57.62% after appropriate Sb3+ doping. Furthermore, halogen substitution was adopted to modify Sb:Cs7Cd3Br13 and produced a series of Cd-based perovskite derivatives with different crystal structures and tunable emission from cyan to orange (517-625 nm). The mechanisms behind such experimental phenomena were further investigated and discussed on the basis of material characterization and theoretical computation. This study presented an effective strategy to synthesize bright Cd-based perovskite derivatives with different structures and modulated emission, and it also provided insights to understand the structure/emission modulation via halogen substitution.

Abstract:Two-dimensional (2D) organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites (OIHPs) have attracted phenomenal attention because of their superior optoelectronic performances. The combination of their structural tunability and material stability offers an unprecedented opportunity to engineer materials with unique functionalities. However, developing a rapid and effective design method for introducing luminescence into dielectric switch and realizing controllable regulation has been an enormous challenge. Thus far, materials with tunable optoelectronic multichannel response have not been successfully implemented. In this study, we successfully developed a facile and effective mechanochemical method for realizing the integration and regulation of luminescence and dielectric switch in 2D perovskites, which is unprecedented for the design of dielectric switching materials. The mild external mechanical stimuli enabled the formation of Mn ion-doped 2D hybrid perovskites (Cyclopropylammonium) 2 Pb 1- x Mn x Br 4 with excellent dielectric switch and rapidly controllable luminescence of highly efficient blue light, white light, pink light, and orange light. This work will provide a new perspective on the rapid and effective design of multifunctional materials and can inspire the future development of low-cost and high-efficiency electronics.
Switchable Dielectric Two-Dimensional Lead-Free Perovskite with Reversible Thermochromic Response

Abstract:(OIHPs) have attracted great interest due to their unique properties for optical, thermal, electric, force, and magnetic applications. However, although some 2D HOIPs with thermochromic properties have been obtained, the issue of toxicity of lead and single-stimulus response impose restrictions on their further applications. To overcome this limitation, we scientifically design and fabricate a novel two-dimensional organic-inorganic possesses excellent reversible chromic/dielectric response under thermal stimulation. Specifically, along with the change in temperature (303-413 K), crystal 1 displays a reversible color change between yellow-green and redbrown with a band gap variation from 2.25 to 2.05 eV. Besides, compared with other thermochromic perovskites, crystal 1 also exhibits a sensitive dielectric transition at a lower phase-transition point (around 369 K) with high fatigue resistance. This study demonstrates a reliable strategy for the fabrication of multiple-stimuli-responsive materials and sheds light on the study of two-dimensional lead-free perovskites in smart windows.

Abstract:A bistable optical-electrical duple switch belongs to a class of highly satisfying intelligent materials that can transform optical and electrical responses simultaneously in one device. A perovskite-type high-temperature phase transition compound with one-dimensional chain-like crystal structure, ([(CH3)(3)PCH2OCH3][PbBr3], 1), displays remarkable bistable photoluminescent-dielectric duple switching behaviors. The noteworthy order-disorder transition of the phosphonium cation and the motions of anions contribute to the phase transition, leading to the space group P2(1)/c at a low temperature phase to C2/c at a high temperature phase. 1 exhibits a prominent step-like dielectric anomaly at 401.0 K and demonstrates novel optical properties with a band gap of 3.54 eV. The photoluminescence intensity suddenly declines from 398 K to 408 K, which may be attributed to the occurrence of phase transition. The electron cloud distributions of the frontier orbital in compound 1 have been calculated using a DFT program.
Cyanine Lead Iodine Low-Dimensional Perovskite with ∼1000 Nm Photoelectronic Response

Abstract:We report a cyanine dye (815EI)-incorporated perovskite, where the iodide salt nature of 815EI helps to interact with PbI2 to form a low-dimensional perovskite, and the perovskite structure promotes 815EI molecule arrangement and crystallization, benefiting charge dissociation and transport. Resulting perovskite solar cells (PSCs) exhibit a broadened photoelectronic response to similar to 1000 nm with obvious external quantum efficiency (EQE) of >15% at 920 nm. In addition, resulting PSCs exhibit excellent stability, retaining over 90% of initial efficiency after 85 degrees C aging for 2300 h. Our work provides a new approach to broaden the photoelectronic response of low-dimensional perovskite materials.

Abstract:Abstract 2D perovskites, typically with a standard formula of L2An-1MnX3n+1, have recently attracted significant attention due to their promising optoelectronic properties. Normally, they contain a mono cation (e.g., butylammonium (BA+) or phenylethylammonium (PEA+) for “L” and methylammonium (MA+) or formamidinium (FA+) for “A”). In this work, multiple cation-substitution strategy was used to improve the luminescence and emission efficiency of perovskite thin films. As a result, brightly blue emission with a high photoluminescence quantum yield of 26% was achieved. Finally, the according perovskite light-emitting diodes reached a brightness of 110 cd/m2, and a maximum external quantum efficiency of 0.79%.

Abstract:Molecular dielectric switches constitute a type of intelligent materials that are highly coveted for their distinctive advantages of switchable dielectric responses, lightweight, and mechanical flexibility. Two-dimensional (2D) hybrid perovskites have demonstrated excellent promise for assembling dielectric switches, in which the dynamic motions of organic moieties afford driving force to trigger switchable dielectric phase transition. Here, we successfully assembled a new lead-free hybrid double perovskite, (CHA)4CuBiBr8 (1, CHA = cyclohexylammonium), adopting a typical 2D structural motif, which shows dielectric anisotropy and bistable behaviors during the reversible phase transition near T c = 378 K (the Curie temperature). That is, its dielectric constants could be switched and tuned between high-dielectric and low-dielectric states. Structure analyses reveal that the ordered-disordered transformation of the organic CHA+ moiety and distortion of inorganic framework account for its phase transition. This result will stimulate further exploration of molecular dielectric switches in this 2D environmentally friendly family.

A Zero-Dimensional Hybrid Cadmium Perovskite with Highly Efficient Orange–Red Light Emission

Abstract:Low-dimensional organic-inorganic hybrid metal halide materials have been extensively studied due to their excellent optoelectronic performances. Herein, by using the facile wet-chemistry method, we designed one new hybrid cadmium bromide of (H3AEP)2CdBr6·2Br based on discrete octahedral [CdBr6]4- units. Remarkably, the bulk crystal of (H3AEP)2CdBr6·2Br exhibits strong broadband orange-red light emission from the radiative recombination of self-trapped excitons (STEs) with a high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 9%. Benefiting from the highly efficient luminescent performance, this 0D cadmium perovskite can be utilized as an excellent down-conversion red phosphor to assemble a white light-emitting diode, and a high color rendering index (CRI) of 93 is realized. As far as we know, this is the first orange-red light-emitting hybrid cadmium perovskite which promotes the full-color display in this system.
