Abstract:It is imperative to carry out full-scale bidirectional hybrid simulations to accurately reproduce the responses of complex structures under earthquake excitations. To study the seismic performance of a six-story steel frame structure, a bidirectional hybrid simulation was carried out on a six-story, one-bay one-span experimental substructure by HyTest. In the test, only three degrees of freedom in the floor plane were considered. Four large-ton actuators were used for loading onto each floor. In this case, there was a problem with redundant actuator control. The control mode of “three displacements and one force” was used to complete the bidirectional test study, in which the redundant actuator is operated in force control mode. Furthermore, the “table-type” experimental substructure has a strong problem of incomplete boundary conditions. Thus, a hybrid simulation method with incomplete boundary conditions based on restoring force correction was proposed. The numerical results show that this method can effectively solve the problem of incomplete boundary conditions well and is a promising method.
