Abstract:With the rapid development of the marine economy in China, the security of marine biodiversity has been threatened. Biodiversity safety degree assessments have been considered an important basis for biodiversity conservation. In the present study, the safety degree of Chinese marine biodiversity was evaluated based on the logical framework of the “Driving Force-Pressure-State-Impact-Response” (DPSIR) model. The safety degree evaluation indicator system of marine biodiversity was constructed with 19 evaluation indicators selected from the five project layers, including driving force, pressure, state, impact and response. Based on the established indicator system, the safety degree level of Chinese marine biodiversity was assessed with data from 2011 to 2015. The results showed that the marine biodiversity safety index (MBSI) fluctuated between 0.35 and 0.65 during 2011–2015, indicating that the safety degree of Chinese marine biodiversity was lower in general. The analysis of the driving force, pressure, state, impact and response indices revealed that the poor situation was mainly caused by the driving force and pressure on the security of marine biodiversity. In combination with the current threats and status faced by marine biodiversity, corresponding countermeasures and suggestions were proposed to provide decision-making references for security protection, management, and improvement of marine biodiversity.
