Abstract:Eu doped Sr2Si5N8 red phosphors with different Eu concentration were synthesized by high-temperature solid phase method. The crystal structure, luminescence and the thermal quenching properties were investigated in detail. It was found that the thermal quenching property was largely dependent on the Eu concentration. Interestingly, the thermal quenching property for low concentration Eu doped Sr2Si5N8 was greatly improved as increasing Eu concentration. In order to understand the relevant mechanism, we examined the change of relative intensity and fluorescence lifetime for the two-peak emission in Sr2Si5N8: Eu. The result revealed that Eu distribution changed with increasing Eu concentration, which should be the mainly mechanism of the thermal quenching behavior for low concentration Eu doped Sr2Si5N8 phosphors.
A novel efficient red-emitting K7SrY2B15O30: Eu3+ phosphor with non-concentration quenching and robust thermal stability for white LEDs

Abstract:Inhibiting energy migration between Eu3+ ions in a fixed host to get higher doping concentration is a permanent topic. Herein, a novel non-concentration quenching red-emitting K7SrY2-2xB15O30: xEu3+ (0.1 ≤ x ≤ 1.0) phosphor was synthesized via high-temperature sintering method. XRD measurement, Rietveld refinement results, and radius percentage deviation calculation demonstrated the phase purity and the occupation preference of Eu3+ ions. With continuously increasing doping Eu3+ ions, the absence of concentration quenching could be explained by long distance between two Eu3+ (7.012 Å) and the K7SrEu2B15O30 could exhibit striking photoluminescence performance with the highest emission wavelength centered at 617 nm. Meanwhile, under the radiation of 393 nm, the high internal quantum efficiency ( ∼ 78.71 %), excellent color purity ( ∼ 88.32 %) and robust thermal stability whose emission intensity at 140 °C could still reach ∼ 97.31 % could guarantee its potential application. When coating BaMgAl10O17: Eu2+, (Ba, Sr)2SiO4: Eu2+, and K7SrEu2B15O30 on a near-ultraviolet chip, the bright white light with a low correlated color temperature of 4211 K and CIE color coordinates of (0.3675, 0.3556) could be obtained. Taking the analytic results above, the non-concentration quenching K7SrY2B15O30: Eu3+ compound has great potential to act as a candidate for red-emitting phosphors in solid-state lighting field.
Intense Red Light Emission Of Eu3+-Doped Sr3b2sio8 For White Light-Emitting Diodes

Abstract:Intense red-emitting phosphors Sr3-2xEuxNaxB2SiO8 were synthesized via high-temperature solid-state reactions. The crystal structure, luminescent properties, and quantum efficiencies of the as-prepared phosphors, as well as their luminescent thermal quenching capabilities and CIE coordinates were investigated for the first time. The results indicated that Sr3-2xEuxNaxB2SiO8 phosphors could be efficiently excited by the near-ultraviolet light (394 nm) to realize a novel red luminescence corresponding to the electric dipole transition D-5(0)-F-7(2) of Eu3+ ions. Based on the theoretical calculation, the dipole-dipole interaction was dominantly involved in the mechanism of concentration quenching of Eu3+ in the phosphors, and the activation energy for thermal quenching (Delta E) was determined to be 0.214 eV. The effects of charge compensation on the luminescence behaviors of Sr3-2xEuxNaxB2SiO8, where M+ represented a monovalent cation like Li+, Na+, or K+ acting as a charge compensator, were also investigated. The composition-optimized Sr2.80Eu0.10Na0.10B2SiO8 exhibited the preferable CIE coordinates of (0.644, 0.350), whose integrated intensity was calculated to be 1.7 times of that of the commercial red phosphor Y1.90Eu0.10O2S. These results suggest that Sr3-2xEuxNaxB2SiO8 phosphors are competitive as the promising red-emitting phosphor-converted materials for white light-emitting diodes. Enhanced Thermal Stability of Red‐Emitting Sr2Si5N8:Eu2+ Phosphors from Triggered Applicable Trap Level via Rare Earth Ions Co‐Doping

Abstract:To develop high performance phosphor, Ln3+(Ln = Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Nd, and Pr) are co‐doped into Sr2Si5N8:Eu2+ to form Sr2Si5N8:Eu2+,xLn3+ (Lnx‐258, 0 ≤ x ≤ 0.05). The Dy0.01‐258 sample has a high external quantum efficiency of 78.6%, and the luminescence intensity at 200 °C can be maintained at 94.7% of room temperature. This phosphor also exhibits excellent cathodoluminescence performance. To solve the problem of thermal stability of the red‐emitting phosphor Sr2Si5N8:Eu2+ with great valuable luminescence performance, trivalent rare earth ions Ln3+ (Ln = Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Nd, and Pr) are co‐doped into Sr2Si5N8: Eu2+ lattice to form thermally robust phosphors Sr2Si5N8:Eu2+,xLn3+(Lnx‐258, 0 ≤ x ≤ 0.05). The successful incorporation of rare earth ions in the crystal structure and the regulation of luminescent properties are proven by a variety of material characterization techniques and analysis. Although the co‐doping of the selected rare earth ions reduces the luminescence intensity of the phosphor, the Dy0.01‐258 sample still has a high external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 78.6%. More importantly, the co‐doping of Dy3+ with x = 0.01 significantly improves the luminescent thermal stability of phosphors at high temperature and the luminescence intensity of Dy0.01‐258 samples at 200 °C can be maintained at 94.7% of room temperature. The thermoluminescence spectrum shows that the defects brought about by co‐doping of Dy3+ with x = 0.01 introduce trap energy levels, which can compensate for the Eu2+ luminescence at high temperature. At the same time, the cathodoluminescence mapping and spectra show that the phosphor has a high saturation current under high‐energy electron bombardment, which indicates that this nitride phosphor also has the potential to be used in field emission display (FEDs). Based on its extraordinary EQE and thermal stability data, this nitride phosphor is the first‐rate among the red phosphors for pc‐wLEDs, and has excellent application prospects in FEDs.

Thermally stable photoluminescence of Eu 3+ doped strontium pyrophosphate: red emitting phosphor with high color purity

Abstract:A series of Eu 3 -doped strontium pyrophosphate (Sr 2 P 2 O 7 ) samples was developed by a combustion synthesis process to investigate their photoluminescence (PL) properties. X-ray diffraction analysis was conducted to identify the creation of an alpha phase with an orthorhombic crystal structure. Bond formation of a pyrophosphate group in the structure of phosphor was recognized through FTIR spectra. The surface morphology of the particles was studied through SEM. The energy band gap of the undoped phosphor was calculated to be 5.04 eV through analysis of diffusion reflectance spectra (DRS), and it gradually changed with doping concentration. The phosphors were excited under NUV–blue light i.e. , 396 nm and 466 nm, and displayed prominent red emission at a wavelength of 618 nm. The PL spectra of Eu 3+ doped Sr 2 P 2 O 7 were examined for the dependency of PL intensity on doping ion concentration and excitation energy. The optimum PL intensity was obtained at 0.3% concentration of Eu 3+ , and intensity quenching was observed with a further increase in concentration. This occurred due to multipolar interaction, which was confirmed through the critical distance R c value of 12.6 Å. Temperature-dependent PL was recorded under 396 nm excitation for an optimized phosphor (0.3% Eu 3+ ). Reduction in PL intensity was observed at higher temperature, but 82% intensity persisted at 540 K with respect to the intensity attained at room temperature i.e. , 300 K. The phosphor has high thermal stability, which is confirmed by the activation energy value of 0.206 eV. The PL emission decay lifetime was determined to be of the order of milliseconds for different concentrations of Eu 3+ . CIE chromaticity coordinates values were assessed from the PL spectra recorded at 396 nm excitation and the color purity was also determined for all the doped phosphors. The quantum efficiency of the 5 D 0 level transition was calculated to be 95.5% to 85.5% for all doped samples. The experimental results were further compared with determined Judd–Ofelt parameters. CIE and CCT values for 0.3% Eu 3+ -doped phosphor were evaluated to be (0.638, 0.364) with color purity of 91.5%. The results obtained for the as-prepared Eu 3+ -doped Sr 2 P 2 O 7 phosphor are quite significant for application of the phosphor as a red-emitting phosphor in pc-WLEDs.

Abstract:Eu2+ doped and Eu2+, Ce3+ co-doped LiSi2N3 phosphors were successfully prepared by gas-pressed sintering in this study. The dominant excitation band of LiSi2N3:Eu2+ was found at about 355 nm and exhibited a broad-band yellow emission centered at 592 nm instead of the early reports of 310 nm and 580 nm, respectively. The shifting behavior dominantly contributed to different oxygen content in the host. The second luminescent center formed by the introduction of oxygen into nitride phosphors was discussed in detail. The detailed energy transfer mechanism from Ce3+ to Eu2+ in the LiSi2N3 host is also reported and a notable unusual redshift behavior was observed in Eu2+, Ce3+ co-doped LiSi2N3 phosphors.
Limited Energy Migration and Circumscribed Multiphonon Relaxation Produced Non-Concentration Quenching in a Novel Dazzling Red-Emitting Phosphor

Abstract:White LED applications are still constrained by the extremely efficient narrow band red emitting phosphors. Meanwhile, the concentration quenching induced by energy migration is the main reason to limit the emission intensity in a red emitting phosphor. Therefore, developing a novel red emitting material with energy migration limitation seems necessary. Here, we proposed and realized the non-concentration quenching doping of Eu3+ ions in Sr9Y2-2xW4O24: xEu3+ (0 ≤ x ≤ 1.0) phosphor for the first time by means of the host preferential selection. By clearly investigating the crystal structure and luminescence kinetics, the long-distance between the nearby Eu3+ ions and the low phonon energy is the main reason that suppresses the energy migration and the cross-relaxation among Eu3+ ions. These advantages result in a high internal (90.47%) and external quantum efficiency (42.1%) of Sr9Eu2W4O24. With the help of the Judd-Oflet theory and the large value of oscillator strength Ω2, Eu3+ ions are verified to occupy the non-symmetric lattice site with high color purity (94.4%). In addition, only 5.2% emission intensity loss at 140 °C can guarantee its application in LED devices, and SYWO: Eu3+ phosphor has high thermal tolerance, high color stability, excellent moisture resistance and superior physical/chemical stability, which has broad practical spectral application prospects. The prepared WLED shows superior performance, and the calculated NTSC values are as high as 101.8% and 104.7%, respectively. For comparison, the optical performances of the Sr9Y2W4O24: Eu3+ phosphor outperform the standard commercial red phosphors, Y2O3: Eu3+, Y2O2S: Eu3+, and almost equals K2MnF6. These results may pave the way for fresh approaches to the study of high-performance Eu3+-activated phosphors.

Competitive Site Occupation toward Improved Quantum Efficiency of SrLaScO 4 :Eu Red Phosphors for Warm White LEDs

Abstract:The discovery of Eu2+‐doped high‐efficiency red phosphors remains a vital challenge for white light‐emitting diode (WLED) applications. It is therefore urgent to find effective strategies managing the oxidation state to help reduce Eu3+ to Eu2+ and accordingly increase the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY). Herein, a new red‐emitting SrLaScO4:Eu phosphor is designed, and the PLQY is enhanced from 13% to 67% under 450 nm excitation by employing (NH4)2SO4‐assisted sintering. Combined structural analysis, optical spectroscopy, and theoretical calculation reveal that predominant Eu2+ prefers to occupy the Sr2+ sites in the SrLaScO4 enabling red emission, and a competitive site occupation of Eu3+ in La3+ can be restrained, and the reduction mechanism of Eu3+ to Eu2+ originating from the (NH4)2SO4 addition is analyzed. The fabricated WLED device using red‐emitting SrLaScO4:Eu and yellow‐emitting Y3(Al,Ga)5O12:Ce3+ exhibits a high color‐rendering index of 86.7 at a low correlated color temperature of 4005 K. This work provides a feasible reduction strategy for guiding the development of high‐efficiency Eu2+‐doped red phosphor for WLED applications. A red phosphor SrLaScO4:Eu is successfully synthesized, and the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) is improved by employing (NH4)2SO4‐assisted synthesis. The improved PLQY is attributed to reducing Eu3+ to Eu2+ via a competitive site occupation. This work reveals a reduction strategy to develop Eu2+‐doped high‐efficiency red phosphor for practical applications in solid‐state lighting.

Efficient and stable Sr3Eu2B4O12 red phosphor benefiting from low symmetry and distorted local environment

Abstract:The development of suitable red phosphors to obtain improved white color stands a good chance to serve in the new generation of white light-emitting diodes. Owing to multi-elements via doping and oxidation of reduced valence state of lanthanide or transition metal ions, most of the reported phosphors usually suffer from complex synthetic processes and unstable color of the lighting industry cycle. In this work, we present a new red emitting and stable Sr3Eu2B4O12 phosphor with regard to its special structure. It crystallizes as an orthorhombic cell, with Sr and Eu atoms co-occupying three different lattice sites in the space group of Pnma (no. 62). It is proposed that the long bond distance between activators minimizes the content quenching, while the high disorder of location restricts the thermal quenching. This phosphor emits bright red light with good color purity under UV excitation, with the luminescence intensity and quantum yield tunable via the fabrication temperature. Through a preliminary optimization of the synthesis process, the Sr3Eu2B4O12 phosphor prepared at 1250 °C has high quantum yields of about 94.7% and excellent thermal stability of 85.6% intensity retention at 150 °C relative to the initial value at room temperature. The calculated Judd-Ofelt intensity parameters (Ω2, Ω4) further clarified that the Eu3+ site in Sr3Eu2B4O12 had lower symmetry without an inversion center, and more distorted local environment and structural rigidity of the host, predicting excellent thermal stability. Finally, a warm pc-WLED device has been produced by mixing as-prepared Sr3Eu2B4O12 powders and commercial BaMgAl10O17:Eu2+ and (Sr, Ba)2SiO4:Eu2+ phosphors, which exhibits a high color rendering index (Ra = 83.4) along with a color temperature at around 4102 K. The present work indicates that the Sr3Eu2B4O12 phosphor is an efficient red component with excellent thermal stability for white-light production of near-UV-excited w-LEDs.
Synthesis and luminescence properties of Eu3+-doped a novel double perovskite Sr2YTaO6 phosphor

Abstract:A novel Sr2Y1−xTaO6:xEu3+ (x = 0.04–0.20) red-emitting phosphor was synthesized by using the conventional solid-state reaction method. The crystal structure, photoluminescence properties, thermal stability and decay lifetimes were investigated in detail. Upon near UV light excitation, this sample exhibited a strong red emission peak centered at 612 nm due to 5D0 → 7F2, which indicated that Eu3+ occupies low symmetry sites within the Sr2YTaO6 host lattice. The optimized doping concentration of Eu3+ ion is about 12 mol%. The excellent thermal stability of Sr2YTaO6:Eu3+ phosphor was tested according to the temperature dependent emission spectra. In addition, the Sr2Y1−xEuxTaO6 phosphors exhibited good color coordinate (0.6076, 0.3879) and high color purity about 84.55%. All results indicated that the Sr2Y1−xTaO6:xEu3+ phosphors can serve as an efficient red phosphor in the white light emitting diodes.
Improved thermal stability of the red-emitting Gd3+ - Modulated La2LiSbO6:Eu3+ phosphors for WLED

Abstract:Red-emitting phosphors play an important role in the warm white light emitting diodes (LEDs). However, the development of red phosphors with high luminous efficiency and high thermal stability still faces severe challenges. A series of novel red emitting Eu3+ doped La2LiSbO6 phosphors have been synthesized by the conventional solid-state reaction route. The effects of sintering temperatures as well as co-doped Gd3+ ions were discussed. X - ray diffraction (XRD), photoluminescence excitation (PLE) and emission (PL) spectra, temperature-dependent photoluminescence spectra, and CIE chromaticity coordinates were used to analyze these phosphors. The optimum sintering temperature for La2LiSbO6: Eu3+ phosphors was 1200 °C. The emission intensity reached the maximum when Eu3+ ion concentration was 18 mol%, and the dipole-dipole interaction may be responsible for the concentration quenching mechanism of Eu3+ in the La2LiSbO6:Eu3+ phosphors. Furthermore, the emission intensity could be increased by Gd3+ ions doping and the sample reached the best emission intensity when both dopant contents of Gd3+ and Eu3+ ion concentration were 10 mol%. However, due to the destabilization of the double perovskite structure caused by the doping of Gd3+ ions, the emission intensity of (La0.80Gd0.10Eu0.10)2LiSbO6 (LGLSO: Eu3+) sample was weaker than that of (La0.82Eu0.18)2LiSbO6 (LLSO: Eu3+). Impressively, LGLSO: Eu3+ phosphor exhibited good thermal stability and the luminous intensity at 423 K maintained 84% compared with its initial value at room temperature, which was higher than that of LLSO: Eu3+ (68%). The thermal quenching phenomenon and the enhancement mechanism of thermal stability were analyzed by the configuration coordinate diagram of Eu3+ ion. In addition, both chromaticity coordinates of samples located in red region, demonstrating their potential applications in white LEDs.

Abstract:A series of CaSrSiO4:xDy3+,yEu3+ white phosphors were successfully synthesized by high-temperature solid-phase reaction technique. The physical phase, optical performance, energy transfer mechanism and thermal stability of the samples were studied. It has been shown that the concentration quenching point of CaSrSiO4:xDy3+ phosphors is x = 0.05 at the excitation of 365 nm. In CaSrSiO4:0.05Dy3+,yEu3+ phosphors, the emission intensity of Dy3+ gradually decreases with the increase of Eu3+ doping concentration. While the emission intensity of Eu3+ first increases and then decreases, the concentration quenching point of Eu3+ is y = 0.08. The analysis of the lifetime decay curves demonstrates the existence of an energy transfer process from Dy3+ to Eu3+ in CaSrSiO4:Dy3+,Eu3+ phosphors. The energy transfer from Dy3+ to Eu3+ is dominated by dipole-dipole interactions, with the highest energy transfer efficiency of 63.1 %. By adjusting the doping concentration of Eu3+, the doping of Eu3+ not only effectively improves the stability of phosphor, but also enables tunable color temperature from cold white light to neutral white light, which is a potentially promising white light emitting material.

Tailoring the Luminescent Properties of SrS:Ce3+ by Sr-Deficiency and Na+ Doping

Abstract:Ce3+-doped SrS phosphors with a charge-compensating Na+ addition were successfully synthesized via a solid-state reaction method, and the related X-ray diffraction patterns can be indexed to the rock-salt-like crystal structure of the Fm3̅m space group. SrS:(Ce3+)x (0.005 ≤ x ≤ 0.05) and SrS:(Ce3+)0.01,(Na+)y (0.005 ≤ y ≤ 0.030) phosphors were excited by 430 nm UV-Vis light, targeted to the 5d1 → 4f1 transition of Ce3+. The composition-optimized SrS:(Ce3+)0.01, (Na+)0.015 phosphors showed an intense broad emission band at λ = 430-700 nm. The doping of Na+ was probed by solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance. The 430 nm pumped white light-emitting diode structure fabricated with a combination of SrS:(Ce3+)0.01,(Na+)0.015 and Sr2Si5N8:Eu2+ phosphors shows a color-rendering index (Ra) of 89.7. The proposed strategy provides new avenues for the design and realization of novel high color quality solid-state LEDs.

Abstract:Sr2SiO4:Eu2+ phosphors were synthesized by a conventional solid state reaction method. After a low amount of nitrogen (similar to 1 mol% of oxygen) was incorporated to modify the local coordination environment of Eu2+, the phosphor showed a single intense broad band emission centered at 625 nm under blue light (453 nm) excitation, and three emission bands (480, 555 and 625 nm) under ultraviolet irradiation. The incorporation of nitrogen was confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and absorption spectroscopy. 480 and 555 nm emissions originated from Eu2+ ions occupying the Sr(I) sites and Sr(II) sites in the Sr2SiO4 crystal, respectively, while 625 nm emission originated from the nitrogen coordinated Eu2+ ions. The local coordination structure around Eu2+ ions in the red phosphors was analyzed with the aid of density functional theory based first principles calculations. The analysis showed that nitrogen should preferentially substitute the O5' sites around Eu2+ in Sr(II) sites, which agreed fairly well with the experimental results from the X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) and the electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra. The electronic structure analysis confirmed the lowered center of gravity of Eu 5d energy states and the broadened Eu 4f energy states, which are due to the tightened coordination environment and the hybridization of the 4f states of Eu and 2p states of nitrogen-oxygen, leading to a red emission. The novel nitrogen modified Sr2SiO4:Eu2+ could serve as a full color phosphor for near-UV LEDs or a red-emitting phosphor for blue LEDs.

Abstract:Ce3+-doped SrS phosphors with a charge-compensating Na+ addition were successfully synthesized via a solid-state reaction method, and the related X-ray diffraction patterns can be indexed to the rock-salt-like crystal structure of the Fm3̅m space group. SrS:(Ce3+)x (0.005 ≤ x ≤ 0.05) and SrS:(Ce3+)0.01,(Na+)y (0.005 ≤ y ≤ 0.030) phosphors were excited by 430 nm UV-Vis light, targeted to the 5d1 → 4f1 transition of Ce3+. The composition-optimized SrS:(Ce3+)0.01, (Na+)0.015 phosphors showed an intense broad emission band at λ = 430-700 nm. The doping of Na+ was probed by solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance. The 430 nm pumped white light-emitting diode structure fabricated with a combination of SrS:(Ce3+)0.01,(Na+)0.015 and Sr2Si5N8:Eu2+ phosphors shows a color-rendering index (Ra) of 89.7. The proposed strategy provides new avenues for the design and realization of novel high color quality solid-state LEDs.

Eu3+ Single-Doped Phosphor with Antithermal Quenching Behavior and Multicolor-Tunable Properties for Luminescence Thermometry

Abstract:To date, non-contact luminescence thermometry methods based on fluorescence intensity ratio (FIR) technology have been studied extensively. However, designing phosphors with high relative sensitivity (Sr) has become a research hotspot. In this work, Eu3+ single-doped Ca2Sb2O7:Eu3+ phosphors with a high Sr value for dual-emitting-center luminescence thermometry are developed and proposed. The anti-thermal quenching behavior of Eu3+ originating from the energy transfer (ET) of host → Eu3+ is found and proved in the designed phosphors. Interestingly, adjustable color emission from blue to orange can be achieved. Surprisingly, the degree of the anti-thermal quenching behavior of Eu3+ gradually reduces from 240 to 127% as the Eu3+ doping content increases from 0.005 to 0.05 mol, attributed to most Eu3+ being located in the low symmetrical [Ca1O8] dodecahedral site. According to the differentiable responses of the host and Eu3+ to temperature, the maximal Sr value reaches 3.369% K-1 (383 K). Moreover, the ambient temperature can be intuitively predicted by observing the emitting color. Owing to the excellent performance in optical thermometry, color-tunable properties, and outstanding acid and alkali resistance for polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) films, the developed Eu3+ single-doped Ca2Sb2O7:Eu3+ phosphors are expected to be prospective candidates in luminescence thermometers and LED devices in various conditions.

Abstract:Novel orange-red Sr2GdSbO6: Eu3+( x = 0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5 and 0.6) phosphors were successfully prepared by the traditional high-temperature solid-state method. The results of Rietveld re finement, energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) spectrum and elemental mapping demonstrate that Eu3+ successfully replaces the Gd3+ sites and distributes uniformly in the particles of phosphors. The luminescence properties of Sr2GdSbO6 :Eu3+ phosphors were investigated in detail. The emission spectra of the strongest emission peak is the D-5(0) -> F- 7(1) (593 nm) transition, which can emit orange-red light under 393 nm excitation. When the doping concentration of Eu3+ ions is x = 0.2, the luminescence intensity of the phosphors reaches the highest. The detailed mechanism of concentration quenching is attributed to dipole-dipole interaction. The thermal stability values of Sr2GdSbO6 :0.2Eu(3+) phosphors are 87%, 82% and 114% under 393, 467 and 527 nm excitations, respectively. The causes of the abnormal thermal quenching under 527 nm excitation were analyzed. Based on the abnormal thermal quenching under 527 nm excitation, the optical thermometry properties of Sr2GdSbO6 :0.2Eu(3+) phosphors were investigated by fluorescence intensity ratio (FIR) technique, and appreciable relative sensitivity was obtained. Abstract:The effects of different doping concentration of Eu2+ on the properties of Sr2Al6O11-based phosphor were studied. The results indicate that there are two main emission peaks at 403nm and 493nm existing, in the phosphor, while the doping concentration of Eu2+ is below 0.01mol, which are corresponding to various, Sr1 and Sr2 sites in the Sr2Al6O11 matrix. While increasing the doping concentration of Eu2+, the emission peak of 403nm disappears and the peak of 493nm becomes strong simultaneously due to the energy transfer. between the different Eu2+ centers. Decay curves imply that. the phosphor without co-doping Dy3+ has no long afterglow properties. When the doping concentration of Eu2+ is 0.01mol, the long afterglow is the best in three experimental samples with different Eu2+ contents. The luminescent properties will decrease while increasing the doping concentration of Eu2+ due to the concentration quenching.

Abstract:A series of K 2 Ca 1- x P 2 O 7 : x Eu 3+ phosphors were prepared by a high-temperature solid-state reaction method. The crystal structure was analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD). Fluorescence spectra, decay curves, and color coordinates were investigated. Under excitation at 393 nm, the strongest emission peak was located at 590 nm, corresponding to the 5 D 0 → 7 F 1 transition of Eu 3+ , and the sub-strongest one was located at 612 nm which belongs to the 5 D 0 → 7 F 2 transition of Eu 3+ . XRD results show that the patterns doped with a small amount of Eu 3+ were fitted well with the standard card of K 2 CaP 2 O 7 , while the pattern with the doping of high concentration Eu 3+ (heavy-doping) indicated the co-existence of K 2 CaP 2 O 7 and EuPO 4 phase which leads to luminescent intensity of phosphors enhance remarkablely. The concentration quenching mechanism was explained through dipole-dipole interaction. Different doping amounts of Eu 3+ and charge compensators will affect the symmetry of the host lattice, thereby affecting the emission intensity ratio of orange and red light. The color coordinates of K 2 Ca 0.49 P 2 O 7 :0.51Eu 3+ and K 2 Ca 0.33 P 2 O 7 :0.67Eu 3+ , 0.1Na + phosphor were near the red region, which was close to commercial red-emitting phosphors Y 2 O 3 :Eu 3+ and standard red light, respectively.
