Abstract:Ca(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 and Ba(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3 ceramic cylinders with the same diameter were bonded by adhesive with low dielectric loss to yield the layered dielectric resonators, and the microwave dielectric characteristics were evaluated with TE01δ mode. With increasing the Ba(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3 thickness fraction, the resonant frequency (f0) decreased, while the effective dielectric constant (ɛr,eff) and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency (τf) increased. Good microwave dielectric characteristics were attained for the samples with the Ba(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3 thickness fraction of 0.5: ɛr,eff=34.33, Q×f=57 930 GHz and τf=2.6 ppm/°C. Finite‐element method was used to predict the microwave dielectric characteristics of the layered resonators and good agreements were attained between the experimental results and predicted ones. Also, both experiment and finite‐element analysis indicated that the effects of the adhesive on f0, ɛr,eff, and τf were slight, while that on Q×f value was significant.

Abstract:Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4-BaTiO3 composites were prepared by calcining Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4 with BaTiO3 at 1220°C for 3 h. Both μ′ and μ″ of the composites decrease rapidly, but the cut-off frequency shifts to higher level with increasing BaTiO3 content. The dielectric constant of the composites increases quickly with increasing BaTiO3 content below 50% and keeps a high and nearly unchangeable value with increasing BaTiO3 above 50%. The composites with BaTiO3 content between 20% and 40% are suitable to use for the magneto-electric devices under high applied frequency due to its high permeability and low dielectric loss.

Abstract:The effects of liquid additives BCC (BaCuO_2-CuO) and BBS glass (BaO-B_2O_3-SiO_2) on the sinterability and microwave dielectric properties of Ba_4(Nd_ 0.85Bi_ 0.15)_ 28/3Ti_ 18O_ 54 ceramics were investigated. A kind of low temperature co-fired ceramic was obtained by sintered at 950℃ with the addition of 2.5wt% BaCuO_2-CuO and 5wt%BaO-B_2O_3-SiO_2, which showed good microwave dielectric characteristics: e= 60.25,Q·f= 2577GHz (5.6GHz),τ_f= +25.1ppm/℃, and this dielectric ceramics is co-fired with Cu-electrode.
Low-frequency dielectric properties of CaNb 2 O 6 ceramics over a wide temperature range

Abstract:CaNb2O6 ceramics were prepared by a conventional solid-state reaction method. By means of the complex dielectric permittivity, electric modulus spectroscopy, and impedance analysis, the dielectric properties of CaNb2O6 ceramics were investigated in the temperature range (180 1050 K) and frequency range (50-1 x 10(7) Hz). The sample exhibits an intrinsic dielectric response with a dielectric constant of 18.06 below 400 K. In the temperature range from 400 to 1023 K, the sample successively shows a relaxor-like peak and an increasing ramp. Annealing treatments in N-2 and O-2 atmospheres revealed that the relaxor-like peak is consisted of two different relaxations (R1 and R2) and the ramp is evidenced to be another relaxation (R3). Our results demonstrated that the low-temperature relaxation (R1) belongs to Maxwell Wagner-type dielectric relaxation caused by surface-layer effect due to the inhomogeneous distribution of oxygen vacancies. The high-temperature relaxations R2 and R3 are conduction relaxation due to hopping motions of singly and doubly charged oxygen vacancies, respectively. A phase transition is revealed to have affinity relationship with oxygen vacancies and most possibly related to the transition of oxygen-vacancy-distribution from a static disorder state to a dynamic disorder state. Abstract:Ca(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 (CMN) and Ba(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3 (BZN) ceramic disks were stacked with three stacking schemes, designated as CMN/BZN, CMN/BZN/CMN, and BZN/CMN/BZN, to yield layered dielectric resonators, and the microwave dielectric characteristics were evaluated with the TE01δ mode. Both experiments and finite element analysis showed that the microwave dielectric characteristics of the layered resonator were determined not only by the volume fraction of BZN but also by the stacking scheme. For each stacking scheme, a good combination of microwave dielectric characteristics with an effective dielectric constant of 34.33–34.52, a Q×f value of 58 800–62 080 GHz, and a near‐zero temperature coefficient of resonant frequency could be achieved by adjusting the volume fraction of BZN. The effects of the stacking scheme on the microwave dielectric characteristics of the temperature‐stable layered resonator were discussed by combining finite element analysis and dielectric composite models.

Abstract:The ordered domain engineering was investigated for Ba[(Zn0.8Mg0.2)(1/3)Nb-2/3]O-3 microwave dielectric ceramics to synergistically modify the physical properties especially the temperature coefficient of resonant frequency tau(f) and quality factor Q value together with the thermal conductivity. The ordered domain structure could be tailored and controlled by the post-densification annealing, and the fine ordered domain structures with high ordering degree and low-energy domain boundary were obtained in the present ceramics annealed around 1400 degrees C for 24 h, where the Qf value was improved from 51 000 to 118 000 GHz, tau(f) was suppressed from 30 to 25.5 ppm/degrees C. Moreover, the thermal conductivity at room temperature was increased from 3.79 to 4.30 W m(-1) K-1, and the Young's modulus was improved from 98 to 214 GPa. The present work provided a promising approach for synergistic modification of physical properties in Ba-based complex perovskite microwave dielectric ceramics.

Abstract:Ceramics in the Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3–CaTiO3–Bi4Ti3O12 pseudo-ternary system were investigated to search for new temperature-stable dielectrics for high frequency applications. A near-zero temperature coefficient was obtained combined with a high dielectric constant (124) and a low dielectric loss (10−3 at 1 MHz) where a complex phase constitution was observed. The dielectric properties were significantly sensitive to the sintering conditions due to the variation of phase constitution.

Abstract:Nb-doped 0.90BaTiO(3)-0.10(Bi0.5Na0.5)TiO3 temperature-insensitive ceramics with novel core-shell structure were sintered at low temperature by the conventional solid-state reaction method. The beneficial role of Nb in facilitating the formation of core-shell structure because of chemical inhomogeneity is verified, which is responsible for the weak temperature dependence of dielectric properties. Temperature dependence of permittivity measured at different frequencies shows high frequency dispersion at low temperature, while without relaxor characteristic at high temperature. The Vogel-Fulcher model was adopted to study the relaxor behaviour of Nb-doped 0.90BaTiO(3)-0.10(Bi0.5Na0.5)TiO3 ceramics at low temperature. The samples with an addition of 1.5 mol% Nb2O5 provide a temperature coefficient of capacitance meeting the requirements of the X9R characteristic, and result exhibits an optimum dielectric behaviour of epsilon(r) similar to 1900, tan delta similar to 1.8% at room temperature, making the material a promising candidate for high temperature applications.

Abstract:The 0.98(K 0.5 Na 0.5 )NbO 3 -0.02Ba(Nb 0.5 Co 0.5 )O 3-δ ceramics with doped Ba 2+ and Co 2+ ions are fabricated, and the impacts of the thermal process are studied. Compared with the rapidly cooled (RC) sample, the slowly cooled (SC) sample possesses superior dielectric and ferroelectric properties, and an 11 K higher ferroelectric-paraelectric phase transition temperature, which can be attributed to the structural characteristics such as the grain size and the degree of anisotropy. Heat treatment can reversibly modulate the content of the oxygen vacancies, and in turn the ferroelectric hysteresis loops of the samples. Finally, robust and tunable ferroelectric property is achieved in SC samples with good structural integrity.

Abstract:Microstructures and microwave dielectric properties of (1-x)Ba((Co0.55Zn0.35Mg0.1)(1/3) Nb-2/3)O-3-xBaZrO(3) (x=0.01, 0.02, 0.03, 0.04, 0.05, and 0.06) ceramics have been investigated. The 1:2 ordered structure remains in the solid solutions when x is less than 0.03, but the ordering is destabilized. While, the local ordering behavior, which generates from compositional inhomogeneous, is observed in the composition with x=0.04, where the 1:1 ordered phase begins to form. For x=0.05 and 0.06, the solid solutions are comprised of nanometer-sized 1:1 and 1:2 ordered domains, those are dispersed in a disordered matrix. The lower Qf values of the as-sintered ceramics mainly because of the lower ordering degrees. BaZrO3 substitution decreases both the annealing time and temperature. The effects of annealing process upon the improvement of Qf values are significant for the lower substitution levels (x=0.01 and 0.02), while only slight effects are determined for high substitution levels (x=0.04, 0.05, and 0.06). The highest Qf value of 84,500GHz is obtained for 1mol% BaZrO3 substituted composition, after annealing at 1300 degrees C for 8h.

Abstract:Ba6-3xNd8+2xTi18O54 solid solutions are the most important high-epsilon microwave. dielectric ceramics, while the relatively large temperature coefficient of resonant frequency is the primary problem. In the present work, the coordinated modification of microwave dielectric properties was investigated by Bi/Sm cosubstitution for Nd in the solid solutions, and the increased dielectric constant combined with high Q value and zero-temperature coefficient of resonant frequency were achieved. The important role of the coordinated modification of microstructures was emphasized during the above process.

Abstract:Materials in two composition regimes, Bi1/2Na1/2TiO3–BaTiO3–CaZrO3 (BNT–BT–CZ) and Bi1/2Na1/2TiO3–BaTiO3–K0.5Na0.5NbO3–CaZrO3 (BNT–BT–KNN–CZ), were synthesized via the mixed oxide route and their structural, dielectric and electrical properties were investigated. CZ was identified to render the two local maxima in permittivity more diffused. This resulted in temperature-insensitive relative permittivity spectra with average values from ∼470 up to ∼2300 and operational windows of at least ∼400°C with less than 15% of variation in the temperature range from −100 up to above 500°C. Moreover, loss factors are below ∼10% and RC constants range from ∼0.03s up to ∼4s at 300°C. The materials of current investigation are highly attractive for developing capacitors of wide temperature usage.

Abstract:High‐temperature piezoelectric sensing is usually used in the aerospace, automotive, and power plant fields. High temperature piezoelectric ceramics are considered the key materials in these fields. In this paper, Ca1−x(Ba1/2Sr1/2)xBi2Nb1.985(W3/4Mn1/4)0.015O9 (x = 0.05, 0.10, 0.15 and 0.20) (C1−xBSxBNWM) has been synthesized by a traditional solid state reaction method. The effects of substitution of calcium at the A‐site by barium and strontium on phase evolution and piezoelectric properties of the CaBi2Nb2O9 orthorhombic Aurivillius phases were investigated. The crystal structure of piezoelectric ceramics was characterized by XRD, Rietveld refinement, and Raman spectroscopy. Co‐substitution of barium/strontium (Ba2+/Sr2+) and tungsten/manganese (W6+/Mn4+) resulted in lattice distortion of C1−xBSxBNWM ceramics. The results induce that the tetragonal crystal structure increase with increasing the co‐substitution cations. Isothermal impedance spectroscopy confirmed intrinsic thermally activated conduction in the system. The C1−xBSxBNWM ceramics with x = 0.15 exhibit a very high Curie temperature (TC ∼ 923°C), a reasonable piezoelectric coefficient (d33 = 13.3 pC/N). Remarkably, even after thermal annealing at temperatures up to 800°C, it still retains a high d33 of 13 pC/N. In addition, the C0.85BS0.15BNWM ceramic had a relatively high resistivity (3.82 × 106 Ω·cm, 500°C). The Ca0.85(Ba1/2Sr1/2)0.15Bi2Nb1.985(W3/4Mn1/4)0.015O9 ceramics make possible their application in high‐temperature acceleration transducers.

Abstract:The layered dielectric resonator structures composed of Ba2Ti9O20 (BTO) and Ba1.85Sm4.1Ti9O24 (BSTO) ceramic pellets were introduced to design new microwave dielectric materials with adjustable dielectric constant between 50 and 70. Good combination of microwave dielectric properties (ɛr,eff=50~70, Qf=11,700–19,100 GHz and τf=−4.3 to −1.5 ppm/°C) was obtained by the present approach, and such combination could be optimized by adjusting the volume fraction of BSTO and stacking scheme. For practical applications, the BTO and BSTO layers could be bonded by low-loss adhesive, and the effects of the adhesive on the microwave dielectric properties were limited.

Abstract:The modified Li3+x Mg2-x Zn x Nb1-x Ti x O6 ceramics were fabricated through a conventional solid-state reaction method. The charge compensation of Zn2+ ions substitution into Mg2+ site and Ti4+ ions substitution into Nb5+ site of Li3Mg2NbO6 ceramics were performed by introducing lithium ions. XRD patterns analysis and Rietveld refinements verified that Li3+x Mg2-x Zn x Nb1-x Ti x O6 ceramics displayed an orthorhombic structure accompany with a little of impure phase. B/C site modification improved dielectric properties. An optimal dielectric properties of ε r = 16.3, Q×f = 93,100 GHz, and τ f = −34.1 ppm/°C were acquired for Li3.04Mg1.96Zn0.04Nb0.96Ti0.04O6 ceramics, which heralds their microwave application potential.

Abstract:Some tungsten-bronze compounds in the BaO–Nd 2 O 3 –TiO 2 –Nb 2 O 5 system were prepared and characterized. Ba 4 Nd 2 Ti 4 Nb 6 O 30 and Ba 5 NdTi 3 Nb 7 O 30 had the filled tetragonal tungsten-bronze structure, and Ba 3 Nd 3 Ti 5 Nb 5 O 30 consisted of the tetragonal tungsten-bronze major phase and a minor amount of secondary phase BaNd 2 Ti 3 O 10 . These compounds had significant relaxor behaviors, and the Curie temperatures (at 1 MHz) were 0 and 55 °C for Ba 3 Nd 3 Ti 5 Nb 5 O 30 and Ba 5 NdTi 3 Nb 7 O 30 ceramics, respectively. A high dielectric constant (213) combined with low dielectric loss (0.004 at 1 MHz) was obtained in Ba 3 Nd 3 Ti 5 Nb 5 O 30 ceramics. In addition, the solid-solution range of Ba p Nd 6− p Ti 8− p Nb 2+ p O 30 was 3 < p ≤ 6.

Abstract:The temperature dependent properties of (K,Na)NbO3-based piezoelectric materials enlightened us that the combination of compositions gradient could remedy the fluctuation of the electrical properties induced by the temperature variation. Then Li modified (K, Na)NbO3 ceramics was chosen as target materials and a multi-layered structure containing a series of composition gradient layers was prepared via a conventional solid state reaction. The results of relative permittivity against temperature demonstrated that the as-called relaxor feature was observed in this proposed multi-layered structure and the change rate of the dielectric anomaly peak got evidently reduced. Besides, the field-induced strain varying less than 10% from the room temperature to 100 degrees C was also achieved in this layered-structure ceramics.
