Abstract:Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), such as MIL-125(Ti), are advanced photocatalytic materials due to their tunable compositions and functionalities. However, their practical application in photocatalysis is often limited by their wide bandgap and the inherent structural instability. This study presents a strategy to improve the photocatalytic performance of MIL-125(Ti) by hydrothermal reaction combined with an in-situ decomposition to generate nano TiO2, creating a composite with g-C3N5 nanosheets. The obtained composite exhibited a rate constant of 0.00122 min(-1) mg(-1) for the degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride under visible light irradiation, which is 24.4 and 20.3 times that of g-C3N5 and MIL-125(Ti), respectively. Characterization results indicated the formation of an effective composite structure that improved the separation efficiency of photogenerated carriers and promoted the generation of reactive oxygen species. The in-situ generated TiO2 within the MIL-125(Ti)/gC(3)N(5) composite during the preparation and photocatalysis processes not only compensated for the structural damage to the original MIL-125(Ti) but also significantly enhanced its degradation performance under visible light. The recyclability and stability of the composite material were also demonstrated, highlighting its potential for practical photocatalytic applications.
Novel C3N4–CdS Composite Photocatalysts with Organic–inorganic Heterojunctions: in Situ Synthesis, Exceptional Activity, High Stability and Photocatalytic Mechanism

Abstract:Novel organic-inorganic composites composed of two visible light responsive semiconductors of graphitic carbon nitride (C3N4) and CdS were successfully synthesized via an "in situ" precipitation-deposition method. The C3N4-CdS heterostructures were fabricated by depositing CdS nanoparticles onto the surface of C3N4. The morphology and optical property of compsoites can be tuned by adjusting the mass ratio of C3N4-CdS, which determines the enhanced level of photocatalytic activity. The optimum activity of 0.7C(3)N(4)-0.3CdS photocatalyst is almost 20.5 and 3.1 times higher than those of individual C3N4 and CdS for the degradation of methyl orange, and 41.6 and 2.7 fold higher for the degradation of 4-aminobenzoic acid, respectively. Moreover, its activity is also much higher than those of C3N4-TiO2 and CdS-TiO2 composites, as well as N-modified TiO2. Of special significance is that the present C3N4-CdS composites exhibit high stabilities under illumination, in contrast with CdS. The enhancement in both performance and stability should be assigned to the effective separation and transfer of photogenerated charges originating from the well-matched overlapping band-structures and closely contacted interfaces. Our work highlights that coupling semiconductors with well-matched band energies provides a flexible route to improve the activity and stability of photocatalysts, and gives ideas for the design and synthesis of other highly active and stable materials.

Abstract:In this paper, the Co-MIL-53(Fe)–NH2/UIO-66-NH2 (CoMU) Hybrid materials with Ⅱ-type heterojunction was synthesized through hydrothermal reaction. Compared with the degradation of tetracycline (TC) by monomer materials, CoMU has the highest photocatalytic degradation efficiency, which can reach a degradation equilibrium within 8 min. As a typical Ⅱ-based MOFs (Metal organic frameworks) material, UIO-66-NH2 can effectively promote the separation and transfer of photoelectric carriers. The introduction of cobalt ions in Fe-based MOFs materials further promoted the transfer of charges through the continuous oxidation-reduction reaction of Co3+/Co2+. The performance of CoMU is explored by studying the influence of TC concentration, pH value, different PMS dosage and different water bodies on the experiment. Active radical capture experiments show that H+ and ·O2 − play a major role in the degradation of TC. In addition, based on the analysis of experimental results, a possible photocatalytic mechanism was discussed. Our results provide insight into the design and construction of high-efficiency hybrid photocatalysts combined with MOFs materials to enhance photocatalytic activity for the photodegradation of environmental pollutants.

Abstract:In this study, we synthesized a convenient and efficient composite photocatalyst, In2O3/Co3O4 from the pyrolysis of Co-doped MIL-68(In). Structural characterization indicates that the composite material exhibited a rod-like hollow structure, thus increasing the specific surface area. Meanwhile, In2O3/Co3O4 forms a PN heterojunction, which reduces the recombination rate of photogenerated hole-electron pairs. Moreover, the visible light absorption ability of this material is enhanced and it has good catalytic properties. Under visible light, the removal rate of tetracycline (TC) reaches 94% by the In2O3/Co3O4 in 90 min, and the reaction constant is 0.02393 min−1, which is 6.86 and 5.56 times of the single component In2O3 and Co3O4, respectively. As shown by free radical quenching experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) test, h+ and •O2 − play an important role in degrading TC into small molecule intermediates in the catalytic process.

Abstract:In this study, a novel composite material, Ni/Mn-MOF-74/CdS@Co3O4 was synthesized. This material consisted of a dual p-n heterojunction, which enabled efficient separation and transfer of charge carriers. Compared to a single p-n heterojunction, the presence of this dual heterojunction significantly enhanced the overall efficiency. The improved efficiency could be attributed to the unique properties of the constituent semiconductors. Co3O4 exhibited p-type semiconductor properties, while Ni/Mn-MOF-74 and CdS exhibited n-type semiconductor properties. By a combination of these materials to form a composite photocatalyst, a Z-type heterojunction was created at the interface of the p-n junction. This design established an internal electric field at both ends, effectively separating the photogenerated electrons and holes in each individual photocatalyst. As a result, the respective photocatalytic activities of the materials were maximized. To demonstrate the practical application of this composite material, it was utilized for the activation of peroxymonosulfate under visible light irradiation, with the aim of enhancing the photocatalytic degradation efficiency of tetracycline hydrochloride. The photocatalytic mechanism of Ni/Mn-MOF-74/CdS@Co3O4 in activating peroxymonosulfate and degrading tetracycline hydrochloride was investigated in detail. Furthermore, the toxicity of tetracycline hydrochloride and its intermediates was evaluated by using toxicity evaluation software.

Abstract:In this study, a highly efficient TiO2/carbon nitride (TCN-x) heterojunction photocatalyst was fabricated through the pyrolysis of an NH2-MIL-125/melamine mixture. The band edge positions of TiO2 and carbon nitride (CN) matched well, leading to improved photogenerated electron-hole separation ability and consequently, improved photocatalytic performance of the TiO2/g-C3N4 nanocomposite. This heterojunction photocatalyst exhibits excellent photocatalytic performance under visible light and effectively removes various water-soluble organic pollutants. Especially, the TCN-0.2 hybrid photocatalyst showed excellent photocatalytic activity and photocatalyst stability. With TCN-0.2, the maximum photodegradation efficiency of tetracycline (TC) and methylene blue (MB) are as high as 86.59% (60 min) and 91.40% (120 min), respectively. Compared with pristine TiO2 and carbon nitride, the efficiency of TCN-0.2 for photocatalytic degradation of TC and MB is greatly improved. Photocurrent and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy further demonstrate that the TCN-0.2 hybrid composite accelerates charge transfer.

Abstract:A novel Bi2MoO6/N-TiO2 hierarchical heterostructure photocatalyst was successfully fabricated through the in situ growth of Bi2MoO6 nanosheets on rough N-TiO2 nanorods with a bark-like surface, and the structure-property relationship of this composite material was researched. The results show that the unique bark-like morphology of N-TiO2 leads to superior adsorption ability, and also provides effective growth sites for Bi2MoO6 nanosheets. The growth of Bi2MoO6 nanosheets leads to the formation of a hierarchical structure, therefore increasing the adsorption ability. The heterostructure between Bi2MoO6 and N-TiO2 promotes the highly efficient separation and transfer of photogenerated carriers. These features make the Bi2MoO6/N-TiO2 composite photocatalyst exhibit outstanding photocatalytic activity, and the optimal photocatalytic degradation rate for tetracycline hydrochloride (20 mg L-1) is up to 93.76% in 90 min under weak-visible-light irradiation (5 W, LED, lambda > 400 nm). After five cycling runs, the composite photocatalyst still maintains high photocatalytic activity. Holes and superoxide radicals are confirmed to be the main reactive species in the photocatalytic reaction over the Bi2MoO6/N-TiO2 composite photocatalyst.

Abstract:Photoactive metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) have proven to be a promising porous material in the field of catalysis. Controllable integration of these MOFs with inorganic semiconductor materials may endow new multifunctional hybrid materials with preferable photocatalytic properties. In this research, NH2-MIL-125(Ti) nanoplates modified Bi2WO6 microspheres was prepared via a simple solvothermal method. The photocatalytic behaviors of the acquired catalysts was evaluated via the degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride (TC) under visible light. The experimental results showed that NH2-MIL-125(Ti)/Bi2WO6 composites display higher photocatalytic activity than that of single Bi2WO6, and the ideal incorporation amount of NH2-MIL-125(Ti) was around 5 wt%. The steady state fluorescence spectrum, transient photocurrents and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy verified that the introduction of NH2-MIL-125(Ti) could accelerate the separation and transfer of photogenerated carriers and thus improve the photocatalytic activity of Bi2WO6. The photocatalytic mechanism was explored in detail. This work extends the knowledge of integrating MOFs with traditional photocatalysts to form new composite materials in the area of environmental purification.

Highly Efficient CoTiO3/MOF-derived In2S3 Photo-Electrocatalysts: Degradation Kinetics, Pathways, and Mechanism

Abstract:MOF-derived catalysts with well-defined morphology have garnered significant interest and research in their potential applications in the fields of photocatalysis and electrocatalysis. In the article, a neoteric and promising photocatalytic system of CoTiO3/MOF-derived In2S3 type-II heterogeneous catalyst with different weight percentages was prepared by a simple hydrothermal method. The system displayed remarkable photocatalytic and electrocatalytic properties. Under optimal conditions, the CoTiO3/MOF-derived In2S3 catalyst achieved a high photocatalytic degradation efficiency within 30 min for terramycin, tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH), Rhoda -mine B (RhB), methylene blue (MB), bright blue (BB) and methyl orange (MO). The respective degradation ef-ficiencies were 91.07%, 87.77%, 99.85%, 99.78%, 97.85%, and 93.94%. In addition, when subjected to H2 evolution reaction (HER) at a current density of 10 mA/cm2, CoTiO3/MOF-derived In2S3 (65 mV) demonstrated superior electrocatalytic performance compared to pure CoTiO3 (429 mV) and MOF-derived In2S3 (109 mV). Surprisingly, cyclic voltammetry yielded an electrochemical active area of 62 cm2, further confirming the enhanced electrochemical performance of CoTiO3/MOF-derived In2S3. The results of the characterization indi-cate that design of type-II heterostructure significantly enhances the specific surface area and interfacial charge transfer. In addition, the results of liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) revealed the degradation intermediates of RhB and suggested its possible degradation pathways. This lays a solid foundation for the development of catalysts which are viable for use in both photocatalysis and electrocatalysis.
Design and Syntheses of MOF/COF Hybrid Materials Via Postsynthetic Covalent Modification: an Efficient Strategy to Boost the Visible-Light-driven Photocatalytic Performance

Abstract:The search of novel visible-light-responsive porous materials is important because they hold great promise for applications in various fields. Herein, we report a novel strategy based on postsynthetic covalent modification for fabrication of hierarchical porous metal-organic frameworks/covalent organic frameworks (MOF/COF) hybrid materials. For the first time, benzoic acid-modified covalent triazine-based frameworks (B-CTF-1) are covalently bonded with MOFs (NH2-MIL-125(Ti) or NH2-UiO-66(Zr)) by using this strategy. Photocatalytic results show that the hydrogen production rate over 15 wt% NH2-MIL-125(Ti)/B-CTF-1 (15TBC) is 360 mu mol.h(-1).g(-1) under visible light irradiation, which is more than twice as much as that of the B-CTF-1. Meanwhile, the hybrid materials show higher stability as compared to the simple heterostructures of MOFs and COFs connected via Van der Waals force. Photoelectrochemical analyses and controlled experiments indicate that the superior photocatalytic performance of the MOF/COF hybrids can be attributed to the formation of amide bonds between B-CTF-1 and MOFs, which facilitate the charge separation efficiency and improve the stability of the photocatalyst. Finally, a possible mechanism to well explain the improved photocatalytic performance of the photocatalytic system was proposed. The present work provides a new idea to construct highly efficient and stable MOF/COF hybrid systems and broaden the applications of COF-based materials.

Abstract:In this work, a ternary In2O3/TiO2/Cu2O photocatalyst was prepared using simple annealing of In-MIL-68/TBOT, followed by electrodeposition of Cu2O. The prepared photocatalyst had a hollow structure and its components were in intimate contacts, which endow it with numerous catalytic active sites while facilitating the migration and separation of charge carriers. The In2O3/TiO2/Cu2O-600 had the highest photon fluence rate in degradation of tetracycline under visible light irradiation. Its apparent rate constant (k) was 0.0293 min−1, 7.2 and 3.8 times higher than that of In2O3 and In2O3/TiO2, respectively. The photoelectrochemical measurements and radical (h+ and ∙O2 –) trapping experiments revealed that the prepared photocatalyst had the n-n type-II hybrid Z-scheme electron transfer pathways, which was the mechanism responsible for its high photocatalytic activity. This study provides a new insight into synthesis of type-II hybrid Z-scheme ternary heterostructures which may have potential applications in environmental remediation.

Abstract:Constructing an exposed facet TiO2/Ti3C2Tx heterojunction with chemical bonding (Ti-O-Ti), and its narrower band structure (2.1 eV) can enhance the separation of photoinduced electron-hole pairs. In this work, an in situ solvothermal method for controlling the oxidation of Ti3C2Tx is utilized with F- (0, 0.5, 1.5, 2.5 mmol NaBF4) as the cosurfactant, wherein the concentration of F- can adjust the percentages of (101) and (001) TiO2 which are embedded in the layers of Ti3C2Tx. When the cosurfactant is 1.5 mmol F-, (101) and (001) TiO2/Ti3C2Tx (TT-15) heterojunction to adsorb and photo-catalytically degrade organic dyes. The specific surface area of TT-15 heterojunction is 108.37 m(2).g(-1), which is effective in increasing the interfacial area between the organic dyes and the photocatalyst. The photocatalytic degradation efficiencies of methylene blue (MB) and methyl orange (MO) of TT-15 exceed 97.5% and 79.5% under 500 W mercury light in 30 min, and the kinetic constants of MB and MO degradation reached 0.10711 min(-1) and 0.04537 min(-1), respectively. Furthermore, there is a synergistic effect between the exposed facet TiO2/Ti3C2Tx heterojunction and the photocatalytic reaction, as demonstrated by the transfer of photogenerated carriers and the generation of center dot O-2(-) and center dot OH, which can improve the performance of the catalytic degradation of organic dyes.

Abstract:In this paper, a novel Mn-doped 2 -MIL-125(Ti) () photocatalytic composites was synthetized through hydrothermal method. Hydrogen desorption and tetracycline and oxytetracycline degradation were performed under visible light to test their photocatalytic activities. The composites were characterized by XRD, FTIR, SEM, TEM, XPS, UV–Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), EPR, EIS, and transient photocurrent response. From the characterization consequence, it could be seen that Mn-doped CdS was tightly attached to the surface of tetragonal NT in the form of nanoparticles. The composites exhibited more promising catalytic activity than pristine monomeric materials. The photocatalytic hydrogen evolution rate reached 3.61 mmol g −1 h −1 . Within 110 min, the degradation efficiencies of TC and OTC were 90% and 88%, respectively. The free radical trapping experiments proved that ·O 2 − and h + were decisive role for degrading pollutants in the degradation catalysis process. Radical trapping experiments and electron spin resonance (ESR) indicated that the Z-scheme heterojunction was formed between Mn-doped CdS and NT, leading to facilitate the migration and shift of photogenerated carriers and holes. Cycling experiments showed that the as-prepared composites have good stability and have good prospects for practical applications. We believe this work will offer new ideas on the future development of efficient heterojunction catalysts for light energy conversion and other applications.

Abstract:Effective and durable photocatalysts are essential for the decomposition of persistent contaminants and the generation of hydrogen peroxide. In this study, we successfully constructed an S-type heterojunction by in situ growing Bi2O3 nanocrystals and NH2-MIL-101(Fe) onto surface-modified g-C3N4. The process of charge transfer in the S-type heterojunction was confirmed using ISI-XPS, DFT calculations, capture experiments, and EPR signals. The combined influence of the heterojunction and MOF demonstrated remarkable photocatalytic performance in the breakdown of tetracycline (TC) and the generation of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). In the enhanced setup (10%-NH2-MIL-101(Fe)@MCN/Bi2O3), full degradation of TC was accomplished within 50 min under visible light exposure. Additionally, a notable H2O2 yield of 655.63 μmol/g was attained, all achieved without the necessity of sacrificial agents or supplementary oxygen. Based on the outcomes of the dual functionality, the exceptional performance of the ternary composite material can be ascribed to the collaborative influence of the heterojunction and MOF. This collaborative effect expands the light absorption range in the visible region, suppresses the recombination of electron-hole pairs, and enhances the photocatalytic redox ability. The system demonstrates significant potential in the efficient in situ production of H2O2 and removal of recalcitrant organic pollutants in pure water.

Abstract:CoFe2O4 was successfully prepared by calcination of bimetallic MOF precursors, and CoFe2O4/FeS2 nanocomposites were prepared by compounding it with FeS2. The catalysts were characterized for their photocatalytic ability using tetracycline (TC) as a target contaminant. The high adsorption due to the wide specific surface area of MOF-derived CoFe2O4/FeS2 led to its excellent photocatalytic performance. Furthermore, the optimum dosages of catalyst and persulfate in the M-CFO/FeS2/Na2S2O8/Vis system were determined. The variation of catalytic performance as a function of pH was also investigated. The degradation mechanism studies assisted by ESR technique and heterojunction structure analysis confirmed the Z-type heterojunction formation and generation of sulfate as well as superoxide free radicals, which played the main species responsible of TC degradation.
Ultrathin carbon-coated Fe-TiO 2-x nanostructures for enhanced photocatalysis under visible-light irradiation

Abstract:Extending solar-light harvesting and improving charge separation are contributing to high-performance semiconductor photocatalysis. In this work, ultrathin carbon-coated Fe-TiO 2-x nanostructures were prepared via one-pot calcination strategy for tetracycline degradation under visible light. The experimental results showed that the carbon-coated Fe-TiO 2-x composites displayed remarkably enhanced visible-light harvesting, and the forbidden band width drops to 2.60 eV. In addition, the transient photocurrent responses and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy indicated the highest charge separation and lowest interfacial migration resistance of carbon-coated Fe-TiO 2-x -3% composite, and the fluorescence emission spectroscopy and linear sweep voltammetry curves also supported these above findings. The carbon-coated Fe-TiO 2-x -3% sample showed the best photocatalytic performance with a rate constant of 0.02512 min −1 towards tetracycline degradation, approximately 3.02 times that of commercial TiO 2 , mainly attributed to the formation of Fe doping, oxygen vacancies, and relatively high surface areas.

Abstract:In this work, TiO2/MXene composites were successfully synthesized through an in-situ solvothermal method, where the morphology of TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) was modified by different concentrations of agents. Ti3C2Tx with electronic storage characteristics was employed as a co-catalyst to enhance the photocatalytic degradation activity by capturing photogenerated electrons. The experimental results reveal that, with the help of C3H8O agents, TiO2 NPs are uniformly distributed on the surface of Ti3C2Tx. The TiO2/Ti3C2Tx-C3H8O composite showed the highest photocatalytic activity of 90.5% after 75 min under mercury light irradiation, which is 57.9% higher than that of the pure TiO2 photocatalyst. The photocatalytic activity is promoted due to the high photoelectron transmission performance of the TiO2/Ti3C2Tx composites.

Abstract:1T-MoS2 is in situ grown on TiO2 nanotubes (TNTs) using a hydrothermal method, forming a 1T-MoS2@TNTs composite, which is confirmed by its physical characterization. The prepared composites show enhanced photocatalytic performance for the degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride under visible light, and the improved photocatalytic activity is closely related to the loaded amount of 1T-MoS2. Therein, 0.5 wt % 1T-MoS2@TNTs can degrade 57% in 1 h, which is the highest photocatalytic efficiency observed in experiments so far. It is speculated that the introduction of 1T-MoS2 may optimize light absorption and charge separation/transport. The active species are identified and the reaction mechanism is proposed here.This article has not yet been cited by other publications.
