(d) The mechanism of the treatment of wastewater by Fe/C/Al micro-electrolysis was investigated. Micro-electrolysis (ME) technology is an effective pretreatment technique for refractory organic wastewater. Herein, the Fe/Al/C ME technology was applied for refining wastewater treatment, and the filler was prepared and characterized. The optimum experimental parameters of refining wastewater treated by Fe/Al/C ME were obtained: the initial pH value was 3, the dosage of Na2SO4 was 0.05 mol/L, the reaction time was 80 min, and non-aerated condition. The application effect was proved in continuously operated experiment under optimum experimental parameters. The results showed that most of the organic matter of the refining wastewater was removed, the biodegradability was greatly enhanced and the biological toxicity was greatly reduced. Moreover, the main mechanism of Fe/Al/C ME pre-treating refining wastewater had been discussed. The catalytic redox reaction of P-nitrophenol by Fe/Al/C ME was studied by cyclic voltammetry, which confirmed the catalytic degradation effects of organic compounds by Fe/Al/C ME. Additionally, EDX analysis showed that Al and Fe were corroded and its effluent formed a mixture of flocculants comprising ferrous hydroxide and aluminum hydroxide under alkaline conditions in the Fe/Al/C ME reaction process. Through IR analysis, it was found that the substances adsorbed by the mixture of flocculants were mainly alkanes, olefins, phenols, and aromatic hydrocarbons. Therefore, the mixture of flocculants has a good coagulation and adsorption effect on the organic substances in the refinery wastewater.
