Abstract:Photochemically driven polymeric composites are the first choice for dental restorative materials to restore tooth cavities and 3D printing artificial teeth to replace agomphiasis, which can replace for the natural tissue of human body and offer obvious advantages but remain still a significant challenge. This is limited by synthetic dental composites, which rarely reproduce the actual mechanical properties and biocompatibility of human natural teeth. Oxygen inhibition is one of the serious challenges for photocured dental materials, which can reduce the mechanical properties and lead to increased cytotoxicity of materials. In this paper, a series of polyurethane acrylate (PUA) prepolymers were synthesized and their mechanical and biological properties were compared. The unique secondary mercaptan with long shelflife and low odor was utilized to reduce oxygen inhibition and increase crosslinking density, meanwhile, modified photocurable nano zirconia (nano ZrO2) enhances mechanical properties of the nanocomposites. The photochemically driven polymeric thiol-acrylate nanocomposites suitable for 3D printing alternative teeth (UV light curing) or dental restorative materials (visible light curing). The results show that the materials have excellent mechanical properties, biocompatibility and antibacterial properties and comparable to commercial products.
