Abstract:In this abstract, the formation of plasma and ablation dynamics of metallic thin liner explosion is investigated. The size of 12mm in diameter, 10 μn in thickness Al liners are exploded on the Qin-1 facility (∼450ns, 450kA). Radial and axial laser shadowgraphy and interferometry platforms are set up to observe the dynamics from different direction simultaneously. To solve the problem that inside plasma density of liner cannot be absolutely calibrated due to the lack of zero plasma density area, we established a new CW laser interference system which can trace the change of interferce lines. Consequently, we study the inside precursor of the exploding liner. It is found that the density of the precursor is very low (∼1e-6g/cm 3 ) and velocity is very high (∼150 km/s). It accumulates at center resulting in a high density column at center. According to the voltage mearsurements and consequent derived inductance change, there is about 10–20 % total the current locating at center precursor plasma column while the main part of the liner keeps stationary. The perturbations development at outside surface are investigated through transverse laser shadow image. Perturbations are first observed at 300 ns after current start. We consider the stratifications as pure MHD (m=0) instabilities rather than ETI (electro-thermal instabilities) because the major part of ablations are plasma. Both amplitude and wavelength are increased over time.
