Abstract:Stereodefined butadienyl phosphines and related derivatives were readily prepared in high yields with perfect regio-selectivity via the zirconocene-mediated pair-selective coupling of alkynylphosphines with ethylene or alkynylphosphines with normal alkynes. Interesting and synthetically useful iodination reactions were found when the in situ generated alpha-phosphinozirconacyclopentenes or alpha-phosphinozirconacyclopentadienes were treated with I-2. Abstract:Alkenylphosphines with various substituents were prepared by the reaction of an alkenylzirconocene with a chlorophosphine. Reactions of (alpha-unsubstituted alkenyl)zirconocenes with Ph2PCl or PhPCl2 gave the corresponding alkenylphosphines in good yields. On the other hand, direct reactions of (alpha-unsubstituted alkenyl)zirconocenes with iPr2PCl did not proceed. Analogously, (alpha-substituted alkenyl)zirconocenes did not react with chlorophosphines directly. However, these reactions proceeded in the presence of CuCl affording the corresponding alkenylphosphines as CuCl complexes. Treatment of the copper complexes with Na2(dtc) (dtc = N,N-diethyldithiocarbamate) or Na4(edta) liberated free alkenylphosphines from the copper centers. The overall protocol could be applicable to preparation of a variety of alkenylphosphines from alkynes via alkenylzirconocene species.

Abstract:Hydroboration of 1-bromo-1-alkynes with dibromoborane followed by addition of 3 or 4 equiv of Me2Zn provides an efficient and selective route to (Z)-2-alkenyldimethylboranes (3) or (Z)-2-alkenylmethylzincs (4), respectively, which have been successfully applied to one-pot Suzuki (B-I) or Negishi (Zn-I) coupling in some less demanding cases. However, in more demanding cross-coupling reactions, only the use of either (Z)-2-alkenyliodides (5) or the alkenylzincs prepared from lithiation and then zincation of 5 proves to be highly satisfactory (Zn-II or Zn-III protocol). On the contrary, the corresponding organoboron coupling under B-II or B-III protocol appears to be less satisfactory. Preliminary studies indicate that certain substituents proximal to trisubstituted alkenes seriously affect the course of the desired alkenylboron crosscoupling.

Abstract:Reactions of alkynes with [Cp2Zr(1-butene)(DMAP)] (DMAP = 4-(dimethylamino)pyridine) and chlorophosphines afforded zirconoalkenylphosphines in good to high yields, and their molecular structures were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The zirconoalkenylphosphines could be transformed into beta-functionalized alkenylphosphines through coupling reactions with various electrophiles in the presence of CuCl.

Abstract:We developed the remote selective C–H bromination for the synthesis of C4′‐brominated biarylphosphine oxides using FeBr3 as a brominating reagent. C3′‐Brominated products were obtained in reactions with substrates bearing a 2,4,6‐triisopropyl substituent on the bottom ring. Moreover, direct access to C5‐chlorinated peri‐substituted(1‐naphthalenyl)phosphines is developed using FeCl3 as a chlorinating reagent. These halogenated compounds can be utilized for cross‐coupling reactions to construct functionalized phosphine oxides.

Abstract:Acetylenic stannanes (1) react with Cp2Zr(H)Cl (Cp=η5-C5H5) giving (Z)-α-stannylvinylzirconium complexes (2), which are trapped with sulfinyl chlorides (3) in THF at room temperature to afford (Z)-α-stannyl-1-alkenyl sulfoxides (4). The yields are 63–81%. The coupling of 4h with diphenyliodonium chloride in the presence of Pd(PPh3)4 and CuI afford (E)-α-phenyl unsaturated sulfoxide 5 in 75% yield.
