Cr2Zr(C14) does not appear in the diffusion triple specimen at 900°C and the solubility limit of Ni in Cr2Zr(C14) is 2.4 at. pct. No ternary phase is found in the system at 900°C.

Abstract:The phase equilibria of the ternary Ni-Cr-Zr system and interfacial reactions in the Ni-Cr/Zr couples at 900 °C were determined. Fifty alloys were prepared from pure Ni, Cr, and Zr. The alloys were metallographically analyzed. Both X-ray diffraction and electron-probe microanalysis (EPMA) were carried out for structural identification and compositional analysis of phases formed in these alloys. At 900 °C, the Cr-Ni 10 Zr 7 two-phase region divides the system into two halves. ZrCr 2 (C14) exists in the Zr-Cr-Ni 10 Zr 7 half, and the ZrCr 2 (C15) phase has an extensive ternary solubility. In the Cr-Ni 10 Zr 7 -Ni half, except for the Ni 7 Zr 2 phase, most of the binary Zr-Ni compounds are in equilibrium with either Cr or Ni phase. Reaction-couple techniques were used for the interfacial reaction study. The reaction path was Zr/NiZr 2 /NiZr/Ni 10 Zr 7 /Ni 21 Zr 8 /Cr/Ni-Cr alloy in the Ni-Cr/Zr couples examined in this study. The results indicate that Ni is the fastest-diffusing species, while Cr is the slowest one.

Abstract:The phase equilibria of the Ni-Ti-Zr ternary system at 1000 and 1200 A degrees C have been experimentally investigated by back-scattered electron, electron probe microanalyzer and x-ray diffraction. In the present study, the established isothermal sections were characterized by a series of binary phases, ternary compounds and solid solutions. The results show that nine three-phase regions and one liquid region at 1000 A degrees C, whereas, four three-phase regions and one liquid region at 1200 A degrees C were experimentally confirmed.

Abstract:In the literature, knowledge of the phase relations in the Cr-Ni-Zr system is limited. To remedy the situation, the phase equilibria of the Cr-Ni-Zr ternary system at 1273 K were investigated via experimental techniques applied to 13 key ternary alloys. In addition, 7 ternary alloys were prepared to determine the isothermal section at 1373 K in the ZrCr2-NiZr-Ni-Cr region. X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) and electron probe micro-analysis (EPMA) were used for the phase identification and composition measurement, respectively. According to the experimental results, the isothermal sections of the Cr-Ni-Zr system at 1273 and 1373 K were constructed and 3 three-phase regions were identifying in the isothermal section at 1273 K. The phase relations from the present work and the literature are compared and analyzed. The presently obtained phase equilibria in the Cr-Ni-Zr ternary system can provide new phase diagram data for a further thermodynamic optimization, which is expected to provide important information for selecting compositions in the design in Cr-Ni-Zr based alloys.

Abstract:Phase relations of Al-Ni-Zr ternary system were investigated with more than 60 ternary alloy compositions combining with x-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy equipped with energy dispersive spectroscopy and electron probe microanalysis. The isothermal section at 850 °C for x (Al) < 75 at.% has been constructed. The existence of five 2-phase regions and twenty-six 3-phase regions has been confirmed. In contrast to early reported in literature, two 3-phase equilibria: γ-(Ni) + Ni 5 Zr + γ′-AlNi 3 and Ni 5 Zr + Ni 7 Zr 2 + γ′ were determined. And a large solubility of Al in Ni 7 Zr 2 about 11.07 at.% was detected. Besides, the 1050 °C isothermal section was determined at the Ni-rich corner, where an extended homogeneity of Ni 7 Zr 2 was observed. Differences of the equilibria in the Ni-rich corner obtained in the present work and appeared in literatures were further analyzed and discussed.

Abstract:The phase equilibrium relations of the ternary Ni-Ta-Zr system at 1223 K were investigated by means of diffusion triple and electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) techniques. Two ternary compounds were found and a series of tie lines and tie triangles have been determined. The maximum solubility of Ta in NiZr(2) is about 13.5% (atom fraction). The corresponding tentative isothermal section at this temperature was constructed based on current experimental information.

Abstract:The isothermal section of the Mo-Ni-Zr system at 900 °C was investigated by characterization of eighteen equilibrium alloys. Electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) and x-ray diffraction (XRD) were used to identify the phases and obtain their compositions. The existence of two ternary compounds, Zr 65 Mo 18− x Ni 16.5+ x (τ 1 , cF96-Ti 2 Ni) and Zr 65 Mo 27.3 Ni 7.7 (τ 2 , hP28-Hf 9 Mo 4 B), was confirmed in the Zr-rich corner, and the compositions of the two phases were determined. The isothermal section of the Mo-Ni-Zr system at 900 °C consists of 15 three-phase regions and 29 two-phase regions. The following three-phase equilibria were well established: (1) (Ni) + Ni 7 Zr 2 + Ni 5 Zr, (2) MoNi + MoNi 3 + Ni 7 Zr 2 , (3) Ni 7 Zr 2 + MoNi + (Mo), (4) (Mo) + Ni 7 Zr 2 + Ni 3 Zr, (5) (Mo) + Ni 3 Zr + Ni 21 Zr 8 , (6) (Mo) + Ni 21 Zr 8 + Ni 10 Zr 7 , (7) (Mo) + Ni 10 Zr 7 + NiZr, (8) (Mo) + Mo 2 Zr + NiZr, (9) NiZr 2 + Mo 2 Zr + τ 1 , (10) τ 1 + Mo 2 Zr + τ 2 , (11) τ 2 + Mo 2 Zr + (Zr)ht, (12) NiZr 2 + τ 1 + (Zr)ht and (13) τ 1 + τ 2 + (Zr)ht. Several binary phases, such as MoNi 3 , Ni 7 Zr 2 and Mo 2 Zr, dissolve appreciable amount of the third component.

Abstract:Phase equilibria in the Ni-Si-Zr ternary system have been investigated experimentally by means of x-ray diffraction and electron probe micro-analyzer on equilibrated ternary alloys. Four ternary phases were detected at 1023 and 1173 K. The Ni 16 Si 7 Zr 6 phase tends to present in two different contrasts and has a wide homogeneity range. The reported Ni 2 Si 9 Zr 14 phase is not detected in this work. It is proposed that the Ni 2 Si 9 Zr 14 phase is unstable at these temperatures. As for the binary phases, Ni 5 Zr and Ni 7 Zr 2 dissolve appreciable amounts of Si and γNi 31 Si 12 , βNi 3 Si, δ Ni 2 Si, NiSi 2 exhibit a considerable solubility of Zr.

Abstract:A partial isothermal section of the Al-Cr-Ti system at 1050°C was determined by means of a diffusion triple technique. Studied in the present work were mainly the phase equilibria involving the phases Ti 2 Al 5 , TiAl 2 , TiAl, Ti 3 Al, L1 2 , and TiCr 2 . A diffusion path from TiAl 3 to Cr was presented. Much more work is still needed to assess the ternary phase diagram in more detail.

Abstract:Phase equilibria in Zr-Ni-Pt ternary system have been experimentally determined through diffusion triple and alloy sampling approaches. Based on the results of Electron Probe Microanalysis (EPMA) and x-ray diffraction (XRD), isothermal sections of this system were constructed at 1073 and 1173 K. A new ternary phase denoted as Zr 4 (Pt,Ni) 3 was detected with composition ranging from 2.5 to 29.7 at.% Ni and 40.7 to 12.7 at.% Pt at 1073 K while 2.2 to 25.1 at.% Ni and 40.9 to 17.5 at.% Pt at 1173 K, respectively. Three continuous solutions are formed between binary compounds ZrNi and ZrPt, Zr 7 Ni 10 and Zr 7 Pt 10 , ZrNi 3 and ZrPt 3 , and large ternary solubility of Ni in ZrPt 4 , and of Pt in Zr 2 Ni and ZrNi 5 , were observed.

Abstract:Phase equilibria of the Ni-Cr-Si ternary system at 1000 and 1100 °C have been experimentally investigated by means of electron probe microanalyzer (EPMA) and x-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis on the equilibrated alloys. In the present work, the existence of the ternary compounds of σ (Cr 13 Ni 5 Si 2 ), π (Cr 3 Ni 5 Si 2 ), τ 1 (Cr 2 Ni 2 Si) and τ 2 (Cr 3 Ni 3 Si 4 ), at both 1000 and 1100 °C is confirmed. The binary γ (Ni 31 Si 12 ), δ (Ni 2 Si), and CrSi phases exhibit a considerable solubility of a third element. Additionally, a liquid phase region is found at 1100 °C in the ranges of 15.5-21.3 at.% Cr and 22.1-25.1 at.% Si.

Abstract:The phase equilibria of the Co-Ni-Zr ternary system at 1 000 degrees C, 1 100 degrees C and 1 200 degrees C were experimentally investigated by means of back-scattered electron imaging, electron probe microanalysis and X-ray diffraction on the equilibrated ternary alloys. In this study, no ternary compound is found. The (alpha Co, Ni) phase region extends from the Ni-rich corner to the Co-rich corner with small solubility of Zr at three sections. At 1 000 degrees C and 1 100 degrees C, Ni5Zr, Co2Zr and Ni10Zr7 phases have large solid solution ranges, but Ni10Zr7 phase disappears at 1 200 degrees C. The Ni7Zr2, NiZr, Co11Zr2, Co23Zr6 and CoZr phases exhibit nearly linear compounds in the studied sections, and have large composition ranges. Additionally, some differences in phase relationship exist among the above three isothermal sections.

Abstract:Phase equilibria in the Co-Cr-Nb ternary system were experimentally investigated by using back-scattered scanning electron microscopy, electron probe microanalysis, composition mapping and x-ray diffraction on equilibrated alloys. In this study, isothermal sections of the Co-Cr-Nb ternary system at 1000, 1100 and 1200 °C were determined. The intermetallic compounds Co 7 Nb 6 and CoCrNb, together with their single phase regions were determined on all three isotherms, as well as three tie triangles involving the (Nb) + Co 7 Nb 6 + CoCrNb, (αCr) + σ + CoCrNb and (αCo) + σ + CoCrNb phases. The current diagrams differed significantly from a previous isotherm reported at 1000 °C. The newly determined phase equilibria in the Co-Cr-Nb system may provide useful information for perpendicular magnetic recording materials and high-temperature alloys.

Abstract:The isothermal section of Fe-Ni-Zr ternary system at 1198K was experimentally determined using diffusion triple technique together with scanning electron microscopy （SEM） and electron probe microanalysis （EPMA）. The results indicate that there are seven binary intermetallic phases, Fe2Zr, FeZr2, NiZr2, NiZr, Ni10Zr7, Ni7Zr2, and Ni5Zr, found in the ternary system, the binary compounds NiZr2 and FeZr2 show a homogeneity range and form a continuous solid solution, namely （Fe, Ni）Zr2. Five three-phase sections, γ（Fe,Ni） + Ni7Zr2 + Ni5Zr, γ（Fe,Ni） + Ni7Zr2 + Ni10Zr7, γ（Fe,Ni） + Fe2Zr + Ni10Zr7, （Fe,Ni）Zr2 + Fe2Zr + Ni10Zr7, and （Fe,Ni）Zr2 + NiZr + Ni10Zr7, exist in the isothermal section. No ternary compound is observed.
