Abstract:A model of multi-layered plane media with arbitrary boundaries has been proposed in this abstract, with which the dyadic Green's functions with the combination of metal and infinite radiation boundary can be solved with explicit form. Field-matching methods with the dyadic Green's function of multi-layered plane media were used for analyzing the high frequency characteristics of a meander line slow wave structure (ML-SWS) with or without dielectric for supporting the meander line (ML). The dispersion characteristics and coupling impedance of the ML-SWS calculated with the theory are in good agreement with those obtained by HFSS code, in which the relative error between them is under 7%. The effects of the metal shield and the thickness variation on dispersion of the ML-SWS can be considered with the theoretical model. The overlapping and crossing of adjacent modes were discussed for investigating the effects of adjacent modes on high frequency characteristics due to the variation of the structure size and mode order number, which show that the band gap of the dispersions may disappear when two half-period structures are symmetrical to each other for the adjacent two slow wave modes or the thickness of the ML is increased to some value for a fast wave mode and a slow wave mode. In addition, some problems easily confused with simulation methods can be effectively solved with the proposed method and the some obtained results are helpful for improving the flatness of the coupling impedance in operating frequency band for the design of the ML-SWS.
