Abstract:Cortex atlases are critical to study the function and organization of human brain. Abrupt transitions in resting-stating functional connectivity (RSFC) are used to define the boundaries between different cortical areas. Ultrahigh field strength (7T) functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data have very high spatial revolution so that some areas which is difficult to be found in lower resolution fMRI data can be detected. Here, we utilized 7T resting-state fMRI data and boundary mapping method to parcellate the cortex of brain. The boundary maps obtained from the parcellation of two independent datasets were highly similar. The boundary map-derived parcels were significantly more homogenous than that of random null models and overlapped strongly with several known cytoarchitectonic areas. A parcellation consisting of 215 parcels for each hemisphere is provided, which appears to better represent the cortex organization of human brain than the previously published Gordon333 atlas [1].
