Abstract:Among various anode materials, simple substance Si have emerged as potential anode materials for LIBs due to its high theoretical specific capacity, abundant amount on earth and low cost [1, 2]. Its theoretical specific capacity (4200 mA h g) is much larger than that of the alreadycommercialized graphite (372 mA h g). However, substantial volume changes are associated with the Li alloying and de-alloying process, which causes fast crack and pulverization of Si and results in rapid capacity fade. On the other hand, nanostructured TiO2 owns a very small volume expansion ratio (3%) [3] upon Li ion intercalation/ extraction, and exhibits good cyclic stability [4]. Well-ordered TiO2 nanowire arrays offer a large internal surface area and excellent pathways for Li-ion to transfer between interfaces. So it is an excellent material employed as a stable anode for lithium ion batteries.

Abstract:A novel material of Sn/TiO2 nanowire array (TNA) composite has been designed and fabricated to be used as anode material for lithium-ion batteries. Firstly, highly ordered, vertically oriented rutile TiO2 nanowire array is synthesized directly on titanium substrate by solvothermal procedure without any template. Subsequently, tin metal is chemically deposited into the interspace of the film, forming a TNA/Sn composite. By calcinations in atmosphere, the skin-deep Sn is oxidized to SnO2, and further turns to Li2O in Li-ion insertion process. The field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) images indicate that the dimensions of TiO2 nanowires and Sn particles are 10±2nm and 8±1nm wide, respectively. The energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) result reveals that the weight ratio of tin to TiO2 is 0.22. The first charge capacity reaches as high as 1610mAhcm−3, and the capacity retention is 62.3% after 300 cycles.

Abstract:A novel material of Si/TiO2 nanowire array (TNA) composite has been designed and fabricated, to be used as anode material for lithium ion batteries. Firstly, Self-assembled and well-aligned rutile TiO2 nanowire arrays are synthesized on pretreated titanium substrate by solvothermal route. Subsequently, Si film is introduced into the interspace of the nanowires, forming a Si/TNA composite. The field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) images indicate that the dimension of TiO2 nanowires is 10 ± 2 nm wide. The TEM and Raman results reveal that Si contains amorphous and nanocrystalline phases. The composite with 75% Si content owns the best electrochemical performance, the first charge capacity reaches as high as 1480 mA h g−1, and remains at 802.3 mA h g−1 after 200 cycles.

Abstract:TiO2(B)@ SnO2 core-shell hybrid nanowires have been synthesized by a facile hydrothermal process and subsequent liquid phase reaction. Hybrid nanowire electrodes exhibit excellent reversible lithium storage capacity rate capability and good cyclability, mainly due to the particular architecture of the composite, which features an open continuous channel along its axis, facilitating lithium ion diffusion, and provides effective mechanical support for the TiO2( B) core, alleviating the stress produced during discharge-charge cycling and also preventing the pulverization of the Sn nanoparticles. Owing to its superior electrochemical performance, this composite could be a promising potential anode material for lithium ion batteries.

Abstract:Li-Ti-O system materials have been intensively investigated due to their outstanding rate performance and cycling stability for lithium ion batteries. However, poor electronic conductivity and low theoretical capacity restrict their practical application. In this paper, we fabricated Li4Ti5O12-TiO2/Sn nanowires embedded in a N-doped carbon network via a simple heterostructured growth process. Not only can the novel composites illustrate the synergistic effect of the structural stability of 1D Li4Ti5O12-TiO2 substrates and high capacity of Sn, but the N-doped porous carbon network also can improve the conductive and ion diffusion improvement together with aggregation prevention. Therefore, the novel nanocomposites show an initial discharge capacity of 964 mA h g(-1) and a capacity retention of about 360 mA h g(-1) after 600 cycles at a high current rate of 1000 mA g(-1), which makes them a promising anode material for lithium ion batteries.

Abstract:While SnO2 is regarded as a good material for Li ion storage because of its high theoretical capacity, its microstructured powder form cannot be directly used as battery electrode because of a drastic pulverization problem and thus poor cyclic performance. Nanostructuring offers opportunities to circumvent this drawback. We report the construction of SnO2 nanoflake branches onto robust TiO2 nanotube stems. This core-branch nanostructured electrode demonstrate evidently improved Li ion storage properties compared to powders, with more stable cycling processes and higher rate capability. In this design, the TiO2 nanotube stems are realized by atomic layer deposition and offer a low-mass scaffold for the SnO2 nanoflakes and also a charge conductive path.

Abstract:Nano SnO2 and Ni powders were ball-milled to form composites as anode materials for lithium ion batteries.The structure and morphology of the composites were analyzed and observed by XRD,SEM,TEM and EDS.The electrochemical properties,including the first coulumbic efficiency,cycle performance and CV curves,were tested.The results show that SnO2 and Ni combine tightly,forming SnO2/Ni composite with small particles.Nano-SnO2 particles disperse uniformly in the Ni-based matrix.The combination of SnO2 with Ni can obviously increase the first coulumbic efficiency and cycle stability of the anode.Moreover,with the increase of the ball-milling time,the first coulumbic efficiency of SnO2/Ni anode first increases then decreases,while the cycle stability almost increases monotonously.The introduction of Ni can reduce effectively the irreversible reaction of SnO2 and Li that forms Li2O and also favors partial Li2O to be reversible in the forms of Li-O compounds in the following cycles.

Abstract:Herein, a unique nanostructure of TiO2@SnO2@3DC composite composed of three-dimensionally tussocky carbon coating porous TiO2/SnO2 quasi-nanospheres has been fabricated by a well-engineered strategy based on improvement of SnO2-based material lithium storage via constructing reasonable synergistic effect of structures and components. Thus feasible synergistic effect of TiO2/SnO2 quasi-nanospheres and tussocky carbon coating provides a robust guarantee for structural stability and electrochemical properties of TiO2@SnO2@3DC composite, resulting in improved electrochemical lithium storage performance. Moreover, this work may pave the way to fabricate non-smooth three-dimensional carbon coating for versatile SnO2/C-based composites.

Abstract:In this work, a new nanostructure of SnO2 nanoparticles (NPs) encapsulated into hollow TiO2 nanowires (SnO2@TiO2) has been successfully fabricated. This unique architecture intrinsically possess void space in between the TiO2 shell and SnO2 nanoparticle cores, as confirmed by XRD, XPS, SEM, TEM and HRTEM characterizations. The TiO2 shell of the composite can not only alleviate the pulverization and drastic volume change of the SnO2 NPs and maintain the structural integrity, but also contribute to the total capacity of the composite. Moreover, the void space can also accommodate the volume expansion of SnO2 and provide highly efficient channels for the fast transport of both electrons and lithium ion during discharge/charge cycling process. When tested as potential anode materials for lithium ion batteries, the as-prepared hollow TiO2 nanowires shell encapsulating SnO2 NPs architecture exhibits good lithium storage performance and excellent cyclability (which delivers a higher reversible capacity of 445 mAh g(-1) at 800 mA g(-1) after 500 cycles). Abstract:In this work, a peculiar nanostructure of SnO2/Sn@carbon nanospheres dispersed in the interspaces of a three-dimensional SnO2/Sn@carbon nanowires network composite (denoted as SnO2/Sn@C) has been successfully fabricated by a facile strategy and confirmed by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, laser Raman spectroscopy, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller method, energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy characterization, illustrating the combination of the nanospheres and the 3-dimensional nanowires network. This architecture effectively withstands the volume change and restricts the agglomeration of SnO2/Sn during the cycling process. Moreover, the SnO2/Sn distributed in carbon matrix and the SnO2/Sn@carbon nanospheres dispersed in interspaces of three-dimensional SnO2/Sn@carbon nanowires network facilitate electron and ion transport throughout the electrode. As a result, this composite exhibits excellent performance as a potential anode material for lithium ion batteries and delivers a reversible capacity of 678.6 mA h g(-1) at 800 mA g(-1), even after 500 cycles.

Abstract:Sn/SnO2@C composite nanofibers were successfully fabricated by a facile annealing strategy. The composite consists of an amorphous carbon matrix encapsulating carbon nanotubes decorated by ultrafine (<10nm) SnO2 nanoparticles, with submicron Sn particles incorporated in the entangled networks of the composite nanofibers. When used as anode material for lithium ion batteries, the Sn/SnO2@C composite nanofibers exhibited high initial charge capacity of 756mAhg−1 at 100mAg−1, excellent high-rate capacity of 190mAhg−1 at 5Ag−1, and excellent capacity retention of 591mAhg−1 after 100 cycles at 100mAg−1. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy mapping, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy were applied to investigate the origins of the excellent electrochemical Li+ storage properties of Sn/SnO2@C. It could be deduced that the ductile carbon matrix and free spaces in the composite nanofiber networks can effectively accommodate the strain of volume change during cycling, prevent the aggregation and pulverization of Sn/SnO2 particles, keep the whole structure stable, and facilitate electron and ion transport through the electrode.

Abstract:Sn-Ni nanorod electrodes for lithium ion rechargeable batteries were fabricated by an anodic aluminum oxide template-assisted growth method.The structural and morphological characteristics of the electrode were examined using scanning electron microscopy.Scanning electron microscopic observation reveals that the copper substrate is covered with uniformly distributed Sn-Ni alloy nanorods.The electrochemical properties of the Sn-Ni alloy nanorod electrodes were studied by galvanostatic cycling.The results show the Sn-Ni alloy nanorod electrode delivere excellent capacity retention.

Abstract:Tin dioxide (SnO2) has attracted extensive attention as an anode for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) due to its high theoretical specific capacity, however, it suffers from the severe volume changes upon lithiation/delithiation cycling, thus leading to fast capacity fading. To overcome the drawbacks, we herein report a facile one-pot self-templating fabrication of Ti-doped SnO2 @carbon nanotubes (Ti-SnO2 @CNTs), via annealing the electrospun precursor nanofibers of tetrabutyl titanate (TBT), tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS), polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF), polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), and stannous chloride (SnCl2). Interestingly, the introduction of TBT or not can lead to the controlled fabrication of the tubular or solid fibrous structure. During the annealing process, the chemical reaction between PVDF, TEOS, and TBT in-situ leads to the formation of tubular structure, while the SnCl2 converts into ultrafine SnO2 nanoparticles, embedding into the PVP-derived N-doped carbon nanotubes. When employed as anode materials for LIBs, the Ti-SnO2 @CNTs deliver high reversible capacities of 868.6/ 495.9 mAh g-1 at 0.2/1.0 A g-1 after 200/500 cycles, higher than those for the fibrous SnO2 @CNFs counterpart (654.9/391.08 mAh g-1). The better lithium storage performance is related to the unique carbon nanotube structure and the Ti-doping, which bring improved electrical conductivity, enhanced structural stability, and shortened ion diffusion path. More importantly, we demonstrate the facile electrospinning fabrication of tubular nanostructured hybrid electrodes for high-performance energy storage applications.

Abstract:Both cobalt oxide and tin are electrochemically active materials, and can be integrated into hybrid core-shell nanowire structures that can participate in lithium-ion insertion-deinsertion process. We demonstrate the synthesis of cobalt oxide-tin (Co3O4-Sn) core-shell nanowire arrays by the hydrothermal synthesis of Co3O4 nanowire arrays and subsequent deposition of the tin layer via a RF-sputtering method. When used as anode materials in lithium-ion batteries, the Co3O4-Sn core-shell nanowire electrodes show better cyclability and enhanced rate capacities compared to bare Co3O4 electrodes. The improved performance can be attributed to the introduction of the tin layer, which improves the electrical conductivity and structural stability of the Co3O4 nanowire arrays.

Abstract:TiO2(B)@SnO2/carbon hybrid nanowires have been synthesized by two simple hydrothermal processes and subsequent heat treatment in argon. The composite has a unique architecture, as its morphology consists of particles having a TiO2(B) nanowire core and a porous SnO2/carbon nanoparticle shell layer. The unique core/shell structure and chemical composition will be useful for many potential applications, including the lithium ion battery. The electrochemical results on the composite are presented to demonstrate the superior cycling performance and rate capability of the TiO2(B)@SnO2/carbon nanowires. This composite exhibits a high reversible capacity of similar to 669mAhg(-1), and excellent cycling stability, indicating that the composite is a promising anode material for Li-ion batteries.

Abstract:Metallic Sn-C composites were prepared by using electrospinning and electrostatic spray deposition (ESD). Morphology of the material prepared by these methods can be controlled by changing the experimental conditions such as the flow rate, voltage, composition of precursor solutions. Influence of the morphology on the electrochemical performance for the same composite was studied. Composite fibers prepared by electrospinning and porous films by ESD were characterized using X ray Diffraction, Transmission Electron Microscopy and Electrochemical characterization. Both the fibers and the porous composite films showed good performance compared to the tin nanopowder based anodes. Capacities of 760mAh/g and 686 mAh/g were obtained for Sn@C-hollow carbon nanofibers and Sn-C porous films, respectively.
