Abstract:CuGaS 2 (CGS) nanoplates were successfully synthesized by one-pot thermolysis of a mixture solution of CuCl, GaCl 3 , and 1-dodecanethiol in noncoordinating solvent 1-octadecene. Their morphology, crystalline phase, and composition were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), respectively. Crystalline structure analysis showed that the as-prepared CGS nanoplates were polytypic, in which the wurtzite phase was interfaced with zincblende domains. The growth process of CGS nanoplates was investigated. It was found that copper sulfide nanoplates were firstly formed and then the as-formed copper sulfide nanoplates gradually transformed to CGS nanoplates with proceeding of the reaction. The optical absorption of the as-synthesized CGS nanoplates was also measured and the direct optical bandgap was determined to be 2.24 eV.

Abstract:A rapid injection approach is used to synthesize the copper selenide nanoparticles and two-dimensional single crystal nanoplates. This technique excludes the use of toxic or expensive materials, increasing the availability of two-dimensional binary chalcogenide semiconductors. The structure of the nanocrystals has been studied and the possible formation mechanism of the nanoplates has been proposed. The optical absorption showed that the nanoplates demonstrated wide and tuneable absorption band in the visible and near infrared region. These nanoplates could be interesting for converting solar energy and for nanophotonic devices operating in the near infrared.

Abstract:CuInS2 nanocrystals were synthesized by one-pot thermolysis of a mixture solution of metal chlorides, 1-dodecanethiol (DT) and oleic acid in noncoordinating solvent 1-octadecene. Interestingly, in this synthesis, different structures and shapes were obtained by simply varying the dosage of DT. At a low dosage of DT, wurtzite nanoplates formed in the initial reaction stage and then they further grew to nanoplates with wurtzite-zincblende polytypism as the reaction proceeded. On the contrary, a high dosage of DT produced zincblende nanoparticles. The formation processes of nanoplates and nanoparticles were studied and a growth mechanism was proposed. Our research will aid in solution-synthesis of ternary chalcogenide nanocrystals and the development of their optoelectronic devices.

Abstract:Hexagonal copper sulfide (CuS) nanoplates were successfully prepared by a mild hydrothermal method. The nanoplates consisted of {001} facets of top–bottom surfaces and {110} facets of the other six-side surfaces. Stacking faults parallel to {001} planes were observed for the nanoplates. The obtained products were characterized by means of X-ray powder diffractometer (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and ultraviolet–visible light (UV–Vis) spectrophotometer. It was found that the morphology, the mean plane size (75–179nm), and the thickness (18–38nm) of nanoplates could be controlled by adjusting CTAB concentration, the used quantity of HNO3, and reaction temperature, respectively. The combination of these controls made nanoplates attractive, promising, and abundant building blocks for advanced materials and nanodevices. The possible mechanism of the formation of nanoplates was discussed.

Abstract:A facile route was demonstrated for inorganic Sn-X-complex-induced syntheses of self-assembled 1D columnar, 2D raftlike, and 3D stratiform anisotropic Cu(2)S hexagonal nanoplates. The factors (reaction time, temperature, the concentration of Sn-X complex, and so on) that influence the size, phase, monodispersity, and self-assembly ability of the Cu(2)S hexagonal nanoplates were studied in detail. It was found that the Sn-X complex could inhibit the growth of the < 001 > direction of monoclinic Cu(2)S nanocrystals, which further induced the formation of the hexagonal lamellar structure. Furthermore, it revealed that the formation of the 1D arrangement was preferred as particles stacked in a face-to-face configuration by maximizing ligand-surface interactions. Then, high ligand density along the side of the 1D columnar arrangement induced well-defined 2D raftlike and 3D stratiform self-assembly.

Abstract:One simple high-temperature solution phase method has been developed to synthesize large-scale, monodisperse, hexgon beta-Cu2S nanoplates. The hexgon nanoplates have edge lengths of 9 +/- 0.5 nm and thicknesses of 4.5 +/- 0.2 nm and self-assemble closely into three-dimensional superlattices. The present results suggest that the simple method might be useful for the synthesis of monodispese hexagon nanoplates for many other chalcogenide semiconductors with hexagonal symmetry structure.

Abstract:Single-crystalline, monodisperse copper sulfide nanocrystals with controlled sizes, shapes. and phases were successfully synthesized via a simple, low-cost, and environmentally friendly chemical reaction of CuCl, and S in oleylamine at 100-180 degrees C. It was found that the molar ratios of [CuCl2]:[S] played the critical role for the control of the sizes, shapes, and phases of copper sulfide nanocrystals. The hexagonal CuS nanodisks, hexagonal CuS nanoribbons consisting of face-to-face stacked nanodisks, and monoclinic Cu1.75S nanoribbons consisting of face-to-face stacked nanodisks were obtained when the molar ratios of [CuCl2]:[S] were 1:1, 2:3, and 2:1, respectively. It was believed that the van der Waals force and dipole-dipole interaction were responsible for the self-assembly of copper sulfide nanodisks. Finally, the copper sulfide nanocrystals were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron micrscopy, X-ray diffraction, and Fourier transform infrared, and its growth mechanism was primarily discussed.

Abstract:We report a facile solution route for the synthesis of single-crystalline and hexagonal CuS nanoplatelets by thermolysing single-precursor copper ethylxanthate [Cu(exan)2] in hexadecylamine (HDA) at moderate temperature. The morphology and structure of CuS nanocrystals (NCs) are characterized by means of XRD, TEM, HRTEM, SAED and UV–vis absorption spectroscopy. Key synthetic parameters, such as reaction temperature, reaction time and precursor concentration, which have a great influence on the size and shape of the products, have been comprehensively investigated. It was found out that the nanoplatelets are self-assembled into one-dimensional ordered string-like structure under appropriate conditions. The solvent used to disperse the nanocrystals can affect the self-assembly of the CuS nanoplatelets, and polar solvent favors the formation of long strings. The possible mechanisms of forming hexagonal nanoplatelets and self-assembled strings are discussed.

Abstract:In this study, large-scale synthesis of Cu3SbSe4 and Cu3Sb0.98Sn0.02Se4 nanoparticles with a narrow size distribution was achieved through a rapid-injection route. These nanoparticles showed a monodisperse and quasi-spherical morphology. The Cu3SbSe4 and Cu3Sb0.98Sn0.02Se4 nanoparticle-based bulk materials were then prepared by hot-pressed sinter of the nanoparticles, and their thermoelectric performances were systematically studied. Due to the reduced lattice thermal conductivity from enhanced phonon scattering at the grain interfaces of the bulk materials, the maximum ZT value of the Cu3Sb0.98Sn0.02Se4 bulk materials reached 0.50 at 575 K.

Abstract:The controlled synthesis of copper sulfide (CuS) nanoplate-based architectures in different solvents has been realized at low cost by simply reaction of Cu(NO3)2·3H2O and S under solvothermal conditions without the use of any template. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), UV–vis spectrometer and fluorescence measurement were used to characterize the products. The products were all in hexagonal phase with high crystallinity and the morphology was significantly influenced by the solvents. The CuS products synthesized in dimethylformamide (DMF) were nanoplates and the samples prepared in ethanol were flower-like morphology composed of large numbers of nanoplates, but those synthesized in ethylene glycol (EG) were CuS architectures with high symmetry made up of several nanoplates arranged in a certain mode. The optical properties were investigated and the growth mechanisms of these CuS crystals were also proposed.

Abstract:Two-dimensional CuO nanoplatelets were synthesized by a facile hydrothermal treatment of cupric dodecylsulfate (Cu(DS)2) and NaOH aqueous solution at 120°C. The products were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, selected area electron diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and UV–vis absorption spectroscopy, respectively. A possible mechanism was also proposed to account for the growth of these CuO nanoplatelets.

Abstract:Phase pure wurtzite Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) nanocrystals have been prepared by using monoclinic Cu1.94S nanoplates as starting materials via a hot-injection method. The rapid injection of Zn-thiols resulted in the symmetrical growth of CZTS onto both sides of Cu1.94S nanoplates, yielding sandwich-like CZTS-Cu1.94S heterostructures, which finally converted into CZTS nanocrystals. Interestingly, with 50% excess Sn precursor in the initial reaction system, the morphology of CZTS can retain the shape of nanoplates with increased thickness. The morphology and crystal phase evolution processes have been further investigated to understand the formation mechanism. These findings are meaningful for the controllable synthesis of copper chalcogenide nanocrystals as well as their photoelectrical applications.

Abstract:Plate-like SnS2 nanostructures (such as stacked nanoplates and individual nanoplates) have been successfully synthesized under hydrothermal conditions without using any additive. Experimental parameters, such as reaction temperature and precursor concentration, play crucial roles in determining the morphologies and phase of final products. Furthermore, the formation mechanism of the stacked SnS2 nanoplates has also been discussed, based on the influence of the kinetics of nucleation and crystal growth. Morevoer, electrochemical measurements indicate the morphology-depending electrochemical properties of SnS2 materials in the application of lithium-ion batteries and the synthesized SnS2 nanomaterials could be expected to be potentially used in lithium ion batteries.

Abstract:The preparation of nanocrystalline Cu2SnS3 at synthetic conditions of low temperature (<180°C) was first reported. Nanocrystalline Cu2SnS3 was directly synthesized from the reaction of CuCl2·2H2O with elemental tin and sulfur through a solvothermal process in ethylenediamine at 140–180°C for 15 h. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns, transmission electron microscope (TEM) images, and X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS) were used to characterize the products. The mechanism of the formation of the Cu2SnS3 nanocrystals in the solvothermal process was proposed. The UV–vis absorption spectroscopy and the electric conductivity of products were also studied.

Abstract:We developed a facile hydrothermal method for synthesizing ultrafine size-controllable earth-abundant Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) nanocrystals using simple Cu(II), Zn(II) and Sn(II) inorganic salts and thiourea in a mixed ethylenediamine and di-water solution as precursors. X-ray diffraction, Raman scattering and transmission electron microscopy confirm that pure kesterite structure CZTS nanocrystals have been synthesized at temperatures as low as 180 degrees C. Broadening of Raman peaks and blue-shift of the absorption edge is attributed to quantum confinement within the nanocrystals. The hydrophilism and tunable band-gap of the CZTS nanocrystals show the potential applications of the nanocrystals for biological labelling and quantum dot based solar cells.

Abstract:Because of the rich polymorphs and lower diffusion energy barriers of copper chalcogenide systems, the phase transformation of colloidal Cu2–xS (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) nanocrystals is critical for understanding their fundamental properties and designing convenient synthetic routes. In this work, high quality digenite Cu1.8S nanocrystals with rhombohedral structure were synthesized at gram-scale. The as-prepared colloidal nanocrystals undergo an in situ phase transformation from rhombohedral Cu1.8S nanocrystals to hexagonal CuS clusters upon keeping the resulting colloidal solution for a few days. The observed transformation was explored by a combination of structural and spectroscopic analyses, including powder X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy characterizations. Abstract:Cu7Te4 nanoparticles and sheet-like particles have been successfully synthesized using different organic solvents (acetone and cyclohexanone) by a solvothermal process. X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) were employed to characterize the as-obtained products. From the experimental results, it has been revealed that the reaction temperature and types of organic solvent have crucial effects on the morphology of the prepared products. Abstract:Monodisperse Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) nanocrystals with tunable shape, crystalline phase, and composition are synthesized by efficient thermolysis of a single source precursor of mixed metal-oleate complexes in hot organic solvents with dissolved sulfur sources. Suitable tuning of the synthetic conditions and the Cu/(Zn + Sn) ratio of the precursor has enabled precise control of the crystalline phase in the form of kesterite, or a newly observed wurtzite structure. Nanocrystals with morphology in the form of spherical, rice-like, or rod-like shapes are obtained over a wide range of compositions (0.5 <= Cu/(Zn + Sn) <= 1.2). Both the final products and intermediates for each shape exhibit consistent composition and structure, indicating homogenous nucleation and growth of single-phase nanocrystals. Thin films prepared from colloidal nanocrystal suspensions display interesting shape-dependent photoresponse behavior under white light illumination from a solar simulator.
