Abstract:CsPbI 3 perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) have been identified as promising candidates for optoelectronic devices due to their low bandgap, wide absorption spectrum, and high color purity. However, their practical applications are limited by their vulnerability to transforming into the yellow non-perovskite phase in ambient conditions. In this study, we propose a novel approach to prepare highly stable black-phase CsPbI 3 NCs by passivating them with sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and anchoring them with flower-like layered europium hydroxide (LEuH). The addition of SDS to CsPbI 3 NCs plays a crucial role in inhibiting defect formation by preventing the ligand from desorbing. Furthermore, LEuH, with its surface OH – groups, effectively anchors the CsPbI 3 NCs onto its nanosheets, preventing their agglomeration. The resulting composite LEuH-SDS-CsPbI 3 nanocomposites exhibit extraordinary environmental stability, maintaining their phase structure even after 60 days of storage under ambient conditions. Additionally, their photoluminescence quantum yield reaches an impressive 95 %. The exceptional luminescence performance of the LEuH-SDS-CsPbI 3 nanocomposites opens up new possibilities for their application in optoelectronic devices. Furthermore, when used in white LEDs, these nanocomposites exhibit excellent luminescence efficiencies, further highlighting their potential for commercial utilization in the field.

Abstract:As traditional capping ligands like oleic acid (OA) and oleylamine (OLA) cannot efficiently maintain the optoelectronic properties and stability of iodide perovskite nanocrystals (NCs), post synthesis surface modification with some other ligand is a convenient and valid method to solve these problems to some extent. Here we promote a long carbon chain ligand with a thiol group, 1-Octadecanethiol (ODT), to realize the passivation of the surface of CsPbI3 NCs after the synthesis process. After modification, our ODT-CsPbI3 NCs exhibit excellent optical properties with a high PLQY of 93% and outstanding stability under different conditions compared to the untreated samples.
Synthesis and Improved Photoluminescent Properties and Stability of Bromine‐Rich CsPbBr3 Nanocrystals Via using CTAB as Additive

Abstract:This study reports a simple one‐pot fabrication method to prepare CsPbBr3 nanocrystals (NCs) by combining a water bath heating method with surface engineering strategy. CsPbBr3 NCs with high stability and high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) are finally synthesized through the common passivation of perovskite nanocrystals by cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and oleylamine (OLA). Although CsPbBr3 nanocrystals (NCs) show excellent optoelectronic properties, their stability greatly limits their potential applications due to the ionicity. Stable bromine‐rich CsPbBr3 nanocrystals (NCs) are achieved by the thermal injection method, which includes adding cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) to a cesium oleate precursor solution. The CTAB as a ligand provides strong binding to the NC surface to effectively passivate the surface defects, and most importantly helps to realize the formation of bromine‐rich CsPbBr3 NCs. The obtained bromine‐rich CsPbBr3 NCs show higher photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs) and enhanced moisture and UV illumination stability. These results provide a simple strategy to synthesize bromine‐rich CsPbBr3 NCs, which can be promising for integrating into the synthesize technique of perovskite optoelectronic devices.

Abstract:Rigid protection layers for the lead-halide perovskite effectively enhance its stability. In this work, for the most vulnerable CsPbI3 perovskite nanocrystals (PNCs), we introduced zero-dimensional perovskites Cs4PbI6 for protection in addition to already robust SiO2 all-inorganic encapsulation, via high-temperature solid-state synthesis. It is proven that the CsPbI3–Cs4PbI6 nano-composite not only maintains the emission peak location of CsPbI3 PeNCs at 700 nm with remarkable oxygen and water resistances, but also exhibits enhanced instant and long-term thermal stability compared with samples containing less amount of Cs4PbI6. The passivation of defects on the interface of CsPbI3–Cs4PbI6 contributes to the enhancement of photoluminescence quantum yield by 8%. These ultra stable CsPbI3–Cs4PbI6 nano-composites show potentials in the application of luminous and display industries.

Abstract:A simple hot‐injection method of synthesis employing ethylenediammonium dihalide as an additional ligand/halide source yields phase‐pure, monodispersed, stable, and highly luminescent CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I, Cl/Br, and Br/I) perovskite NCs due to strong binding of the bidentate ligand (EDA2+) to the surface of the NCs and effective removal of the halide‐deficient trap states. Colloidal cesium lead halide (CsPbX3, X = Cl, Br, I) perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) hold promises in photovoltaic and optoelectronic applications. However, their poor long‐term stability results in degradation of optical properties under ambient conditions. Various methods have been explored to address these issues. In this study, we demonstrate that following 3‐precursor hot‐injection method employing ethylenediammonium dihalide (EDAX2) as an additional ligand/halide source one can obtain phase‐pure, monodispersed, stable, and highly luminescent CsPbX3 NCs. Our violet‐emitting CsPbCl3, blue‐emitting CsPbClBr2, Green‐emitting CsPbBr3, yellow‐emitting CsPbBr2I, and red‐emitting CsPbI3 NCs show PLQYs of 53%, 97%, 96%, 93%, and 95%, respectively. Moreover, the CsPbI3 NCs, which are known for their phase instability, exhibit stability for up to two months under ambient conditions. The enhanced stability and photoluminescence are attributed to strong binding of the bidentate ligand (EDA2+) to the surface of the NCs and effective removal of the halide‐deficiency trap states by X−.

Multivariant ligands stabilize anionic solvent-oriented -CsPbX3 nanocrystals at room temperature

Abstract:Cubic phase CsPbX3 nanocrystals (NCs) are promising candidates for optoelectronic applications. However, their chemical stability heavily depends on the dynamic ionic surface. In this work, based on the interdependency of the ligands and the reaction solvent, a protocol is developed for high-quality alpha-CsPbX3 under ambient conditions. Utilizing this method, the size and full width at half maximum of CsPbX3 NCs can be simply tuned via changing the cationic ligands or reaction solvent, such as CH3Cl, CH2Cl2, or toluene. One remarkable result is the synthesis of cubic CsPbI3 NCs, for which large-scale syntheses have not been reported in the literature except for our method, due to significant phase transition at room temperature. Another result is that we have realized ultrasmall sized CsPbCl3 NCs with emission at 385 nm for the first time. Furthermore, the elimination of reaction solvent (such as ODE, DMSO, DMF) in our protocol reduces the purification-induced surface ligand loss and the irreversible phase transition to a nonfluorescent phase. Our CsPbX3 NCs show near-perfect photoluminescence quantum yield (PL QY) and long-term stability in the presence of moisture. Further characterization demonstrates that all the ligands, whether the initial paired X type or the degenerated hybrid L-X type, remain perfectly passivating on the defect sites throughout.
Facial synthesis of highly stable and bright CsPbX3 (X=Cl, Br, I) perovskite nanocrystals via an anion exchange at the water-oil interface

Abstract:Cesium lead halide perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) have attracted unprecedented attention owing to their compelling properties for optoelectronic applications. Compared with the classical hot-injection method, the room-temperature (RT) synthetic strategy is more facile and tender, but it is hard to obtain stable CsPbI3 NCs and it usually uses polar solvents that sometimes reduce the stability and properties of NCs. Here, we reported a simple approach to synthesize highly efficient and stable CsPbI3 as well as other color-tunable CsPbX3 NCs with high quantum efficiency at room temperature via an anion exchange at the water-oil interface, in which the as-synthesized pristine CsPbBr3 NCs in toluene were treated in aqueous solutions of HX (X=Cl, Br, and I) and protonated oleylamine (OAm) acted as a carrier. The synthesized CsPbI3 NCs had an emission at 680 nm and even showed excellent colloidal stability after being stored for 32 d. The high efficiency and stability of the obtained CsPbX3 NCs were ascribed to the facts that: (i) the polar reagents were almost removed from the surface of NCs; (ii) the defect-related nonradiative recombination was suppressed efficiently by surface passivation.

Abstract:Developing pathways to stabilize the intrinsically dynamic surface of metal halide perovskite nanocrystals (PNCs), especially metastable lead iodide PNCs, is an important but challenging task. Herein, we have realized ultra-stable colloidal CsPbI3 PNCs based on a multi-amine chelating ligand, N′-(2-aminoethyl)-N′-hexadecylethane-1,2-diamine (AHDA). The protonated AHDA can anchor the PNC surface lattice with a high binding energy of 2.36 eV, much larger than the 1.47 eV achieved with the commonly used oleylammonium ligands. The chelation effect greatly inhibits dynamic desorption of surface ligands and enables stabilization of CsPbI3 PNCs under various ambient stimuli, such as repeated purification (up to 15 cycles), polar solvents, heat, and light. The stable yet easily accessible surface of the AHDA-capped CsPbI3 PNCs renders them a robust photocatalyst in a stereoselective C–C oxidative coupling reaction. Furthermore, we show that the AHDA ligand can also be used to synthesize PNCs of several other compositions, namely CsPbCl3, CsPbBr3, CsPbBrI2, and hybrid FAPbI3 (FA = formamidine), with remarkably stable emission characteristics.

Abstract:The instability of the cesium lead halide perovskite (CsPbX3, X = Cl, Br, I) upon exposure to humidity or heat strongly hinders their applications in optoelectronic devices. In this work, an in situ adsorption strategy is adopted to directly grow uniform CsPbX3 nanocrystals (NCs) on flower-like TiO2 microspheres to achieve a hybrid structure. Benefiting from the isolation effect of flower-like structure, the as-synthesized TiO2–CsPbBr3 composites exhibit excellent water stability when soaked in water for 35 days and retain 62.7% of the initial photoluminescence (PL) emission intensity. CsPbBr3 NCs also present enhanced thermal stability under the protection of TiO2 matrix. It is intriguing that the TiO2-CsPbX3 composites with blue, green and red emissions are fabricated successfully by this method with excellent moisture and thermal stability, which provides a feasible solution for the effective application of CsPbX3 NCs in light emitting diode (LED) devices.

Abstract:A sequential surface adsorption method for improving the photostability of perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) at room temperature was proposed. Firstly, S2- was decorated on the surface of CsPbBr3 NCs by adding didodecyl dimethylammonium sulfide (S2- -DDA(+)), and then In3+ ions, which diffused from the salt powder of In(Ac)(3), were slowly adsorbed by the pre-loaded S2-. Through this process, the photoluminescence quantum yield of the CsPbBr3 NCs increases from 57% to 80%, and their photostability, thermal stability, and colloidal stability were all drastically improved. The resultant CsPbBr3 center dot S-In NCs remained stable for 188 h under strong LED light illumination (450 nm and 175 mW cm(-2)), while pristine CsPbBr3 NCs totally quenched in 2 h, which shows the great potential of CsPbBr3 center dot S-In NCs in lighting and display applications. We also demonstrated that this method could be extended to many other metal salts to form stable perovskite center dot S-X (X = Ni, Mn and Zn) nanocrystals.
Synthesis of Red Cesium Lead Bromoiodide Nanocrystals Chelating Phenylated Phosphine Ligands with Enhanced Stability

Abstract:Two new phosphine ligands, diphenylmethylphosphine (DPMP) and triphenylphosphine (TPP), were introduced onto cesium lead bromoiodide nanocrystals (CsPbBrI2 NCs) to improve air stability in the ambient atmosphere. Incorporating DPMP or TPP ligands can also enhance film-forming and optoelectronic properties of the CsPbBrI2 NCs. The results reveal that DPMP is a better ligand to stabilize the emission of CsPbBrI2 NCs than TPP after storage for 21 days. The increased carrier lifetime and photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of perovskite NCs are due to the surface passivation by DPMP or TPP ligands, which reduces nonradiative recombination at the trap sites. The DPMP and TPP-treated CsPbBrI2 NCs were successfully utilized as red emitters for fabricating perovskite light-emitting diodes with enhanced performance and prolonged device lifetime relative to the pristine one.

Abstract:Perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) exhibit attractive photophysical properties by combining the excellent optoelectronic properties of bulk perovskites with the strong quantum confinement effect at the nanoscale. However, CsPbI3 NCs easily transform into a non-perovskite phase because of the ionic lattice and dynamic ligand binding. Herein, stable black-phase CsPbI3 NCs capped with a new organic ligand, HO-PS-N-3 (HOPS), which consists of a polystyrene segment with hydroxyl and azide end groups, are reported. This organic polymer ligand passivated the surface defects and enhanced the stability of CsPbI3 NCs by exposing the linking hydrophobic polystyrene segment. Consequently, the optimized CsPbI3 NCs exhibit significantly improved resistance to moisture or light and maintained 70 % of the original luminous intensity after immersion in water for two months. The theoretical results revealed that the binding energy of the HOPS ligand on the surface of the CsPbI3 NCs is higher than that of the commonly used oleic acid, alleviating the defects-induced degradation during purification. Thus, surface-stabilized CsPbI3 NCs are beneficial for a broad range of optoelectronic applications.

Abstract:Cesium lead halide perovskite nanocrystals have a narrow emission peak tunable in the visible wavelength range with a high quantum yield. They hold great potential for optoelectronic applications such as light-emitting diodes or electronic displays. However, cesium lead iodide (CsPbI3) is not stable under ambient conditions, limiting its applications. Here, we use a solution surface treatment approach to improve the photostability of CsPbI3 suspensions in toluene. When a CsPbBr3 precursor is used via the method of heterogeneous surface treatment, the photoluminescence (PL) intensity is enhanced but the PL only lasts 2 days. In contrast, when a CsPbI3 precursor is used via the method of homogeneous surface treatment, not only the PL intensity of CsPbI3 suspensions is enhanced but also the stability with the PL lasts for 11 days. It is likely that a better protection on the core CsPbI3 by itself can be achieved because of better matching of the material structure and surface chemistry.This article has not yet been cited by other publications.

Abstract:Metal oxides exhibit excellent barrier properties against moisture and oxygen, which are regarded as the powerful candidate for boosting the stability of perovskite nanocrystals (NCs). Here, we develop a simple method to coat perovskite NCs with PbO by peroxides post-treatment. Firstly, the didodecyl dimethyl ammonium sulfide (DDAS) was used to modify the CsPbBr3 NCs (DDAS-CsPbBr3), and then sequentially treated with benzoyl peroxide (BPO). By this way, the self-metal source (lead) can be easily oxidized, leading to the quick growth of lead oxide (PbO) on the surface of individual CsPbBr3 NCs. Under illumination with a 450 nm LED light (175 mW/cm(2)), the PbO coated CsPbBr3 NCs maintained at 90% of the initial intensity for 20 h of operations; in contrast, the emission from the CsPbBr3 NCs completely quenched.

Abstract:Lead halide perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) as promising optoelectronic materials are intensively researched. However, the instability is one of the biggest challenges needed to overcome before fulfill their practical applications. To improve their stability, we present a postsynthetic controlled phase transformation of CsPbBr3 toward CsPbBr3/Rb4PbBr6 core/shell structure triggered by rubidium oleate treatment. The resulted core/shell NCs show exceptional photostability both in solution and on-chip. The solution of CsPbBr3/Rb4PbBr6 NCs can remain over 90% of the initial emission photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQY) after 42 h of intense light-emitting diodes illumination (450 nm, 175 mW/cm2), which is even better than the conventional CdSe/CdS quantum dots whose emission drop to 50% after 18 h under the same condition. We believe that the exceptional photostability should be resulted from the protection of the robust Rb4PbBr6 shell on CsPbBr3 NCs.

Abstract:All-inorganic lead halide perovskite has emerged as an attractive semiconducting material due to its unique optoelectronic properties. However, its poor environmental stability restricts its broad application. Here, a simple method for the fabrication of CsPb2Br5/TiO2 is investigated. The introduction of p-aminobenzoic acid, which has two functional groups, is critical for the capping of amorphous TiO2 on CsPb2Br5. After calcination at 300 °C, amorphous TiO2 crystallizes into the anatase phase. The CsPb2Br5/TiO2 NCs show high long-term stability in water and enhanced stability against ultraviolet radiation and heat treatment, owing to the chemical stability of TiO2. More importantly, photo-electrochemical characterizations indicate that the formation of TiO2 shells can increase the charge separation efficiency. Hence, CsPb2Br5/TiO2 exhibits improved photoelectric activity owing to the electrical conductivity of the TiO2 in water. This study provides a new route for the fabrication of optoelectronic devices and photocatalysts based on perovskite NCs in the aqueous phase. Furthermore, the present results demonstrate that CsPb2Br5/TiO2 NCs has considerable potential to be used as a photoelectric material in optical sensing and monitoring.

Postsynthesis Potassium‐Modification Method to Improve Stability of CsPbBr3 Perovskite Nanocrystals

Abstract:In this communication, a simple postmodification method to improve the optical properties and stability of CsPbBr3 perovskite nanocrystals (CPB-NCs) is reported. By strictly controlling the adding dose of K-oleate (molar ratio of K/Cs = 1.5/1) into the parent CPB-NC solution, it is possible to synthesize monodispersed K-modified CPB-NCs (K-CPB-NCs) with drastically enhanced photo- and thermostabilities as well as photoluminescence quantum yields, which are increased to 83% from 65%. Photostability tests show that the parent CPB-NC film drops to 50% of its original PL intensity after 45 h of illumination, but the K-CPB-NC film can maintain 100% of PL even after 153 h. Through the morphology, structure, and composition evolution of K-CPB-NCs, these benefits were attributed to the modification of K+ ions, which possibly induces a strong K-related protective passivation layer on the surface of K-CPB-NCs and simultaneously drastically decreases their surface defects.

Abstract:The instability and clumping of lead halide perovskite nanocrystals in polar solutions have limited their practical use. In this paper, a convenient and effective surface modification strategy was applied to substitute the typical oleic acid (OA) with 3-bromopropionic acid (BPA) ligand for the one-step synthesis of CsPbBr3 NCs in the absence of any inert gas atmosphere with water as the non-solvent. Thanks to the synergistic effect of BPA and OAm on the surface of CsPbBr3 NCs, it has excellent dispersibility while exhibiting excellent stability in water. Even after being fully submerged in water for 168 h, the material can still emit a vibrant green light, and the emission peak position is stable at 520 nm. In contrast, the CsPbBr3 NCs of the OA ligand were completely burst in water within minutes. This study opens the door for the direct synthesis and preservation of CsPbBr3 NCs in the aqueous phase, which will be an important step in advancing their large-scale applications in extreme environments.
