Abstract:Summary Investigating the stress state and boundary effects of the dynamic force-deformation apparatus with multiple interfaces on measurement accuracy and reliability are essential in understanding intrinsic frequency-dependent characteristics of the rock sample. We experiment with a typical low-frequency setup numerically and experimentally at the frequencies of 2 - 800 Hz, to specifically investigate the effects of boundary condition and stress state. Overall, the simulated data fits quite well with the measured results. However, the simulated results also indicate that interfaces of the sample-standard-vibrator assembly lead to stress concentration, resulting in coordinate-dependent strain amplitude on both sample and standard. Additionally, stress magnitude is also frequency-dependent, which causes relatively high measurement error on strain amplitude at higher frequencies when the standard is nearby the vibrator. Ultimately, numerical results not only quantify and optimize measurement workflow and apparatus setting but also simplify the interpretation of the measured data.
