Abstract:Two-photon polymerization (TPP) offers an attractive option for direct writing laser target components that support high-energy-density (HED) plasma-physics research. Here 2PP is used to deterministically print low-density foam structures often used in HED targets. Foams ranging in size from tens to hundreds of microns and varying in density from 500 to 50 mg/cm3 are readily printed in times ranging from several seconds to a few hours depending on the size. In addition, direct printing of variable density foams is now possible as demonstrated with a ∼0.5 mm square x 150um thick foam comprised of 12 individual layers with a vertical density gradient of 500 to 67 mg/cm3. The foam can be printed with the density gradient in any direction relative to the reference substrate as demonstrated with a few examples.Two-photon polymerization (TPP) offers an attractive option for direct writing laser target components that support high-energy-density (HED) plasma-physics research.
