Abstract:The continuous exploration of advanced electrode materials is noteworthy to reform next-generation high-performance energy storage technology toward a green future. Benefiting from their abundant redox centers and electrochemically active sites, transition metal selenides (TMSs) have emerged as promising electrode materials for supercapacitors, which present massive potential in bridging a gap between the high power density and enhanced energy density. In this paper, we provide a two-step approach for constructing vanadium-doped Co0.85Se (V-doped Co0.85Se) nanowires on nickel foam that have outstanding electrochemical performance. In the three-electrode system, the areal specific capacity of the V-doped Co0.85Se was found as high as 1.28 mAh cm-2 (127.78 mAh g-1) at 5 mA cm -2, which is 1.97 times of that of the Co0.85Se electrode. The assembled quasi-solid-state hybrid supercapacitor also exhibits impressive electrochemical performance, possessing an energy density of 5.30 mWh cm-3 at a power density of 51.15 mW cm-3, and an excellent cycling stability (with capacitance retention of 84.2% after 5000 cycles). The enhanced electrochemical performance of the V-doped Co0.85Se is caused by a unique nanowire-like morphology with high specific surface area, and low charge transfer resistance and ion diffusion resistance. This work provides a feasible strategy for combining metallic element vanadium with selenide electrodes.

Abstract:Binder-free electrodes provide great opportunities for the development of high-performance energy devices due to the absence of insulating and inactive binders. In this paper, NiCo2S4 arrays with attractive nanostructures were directly grown on activated carbon textile (ACT) by a facile one-pot hydrothermal method to develop a self-supported binder-free electrode. The nanostructures can be tuned from nanorods to nanosheets by simply controlling the concentration of the sulfur source. Both arrays exhibited battery-type behavior of the positive electrode, where the nanosheets arrays with relatively higher capacity of 183.2 mA h g(-1) at 2 mA cm(-2) and better cycling stability of 82.6 % capacitance retention after 1000 cycles was employed in an asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) as positive electrode. The ASC exhibited excellent rate capability with the maximum specific energy of 56.2 Wh/kg and the specific power of 632.7 W/kg at the current density of 4 mA/cm(2). The presented results are believed to be helpful to the design and application of promising flexible binder-free electrode for high-performance hybrid supercapacitors.

Abstract:Uniform one-dimensional metal oxide hollow tubular nanofibers (HTNs) have been controllably prepared using a calcination strategy using electrospun polymer nanofibers as soft templates and zeolitic imidazolate framework nanoparticles as precursors. Utilizing the general synthesis method, the ZnO HTNs, Co3O4 HTNs and ZnCo2O4 HTNs have been successfully prepared. The optimal ZnCo2O4 HTNs, as a representative substance applied in supercapacitors as the positive electrode, delivers a high specific capacity of 181 C g−1 at a current density of 0.5 A g−1, an excellent rate performance of 75.14% and a superior capacity retention of 97.42% after 10 000 cycles. Furthermore, an asymmetric supercapacitor assembled from ZnCo2O4 HTNs and active carbon also shows a stable and ultrahigh cycling stability with 95.38% of its original capacity after 20 000 cycle tests.

Abstract:V 2 O 5 nanobelt arrays (VNBAs) is fabricated on Ni foam by using an easy hydrothermal route and then NiO nanosheet arrays (NNSAs) is grown on VNBAs by using a simple chemical bath deposition approach to form VNBAs/NNSAs composite. It is found that the monocrystalline VNBAs with a lamellar structure is uniformly distributed on nickel foam and the polystalline NNSAs with a close packed structure is closely covered on the VNBAs. CV, GCD, EIS and CA electrochemical techniques are used to test the supercapacitive properties of the VNBAs/NNSAs composite. The single electrode displays a high specific capacity of 875 F g −1 , a good cycling stability of 96.1%, a small charge transfer resistance of 1.32 Ω and a rapid ion diffusivity of 2.5 × 10 −8 cm 2 s −1 . The symmetric supercapacitor combined by the VNBAs/NNSAs displays a large energy density of 120.1 W h kg −1 at 400 W kg −1 and it retains 68.3 W h kg −1 at 8000 W kg −1 . The VNBAs/NNSAs composite with high electrochemical performance is a potential supercapacitor electrode material.

Abstract:Metal-organic framework (MOF)-derived metal sulfide-based nanostructures have been widely explored in electrochemical energy storage because of their high porosity and tunable morphology. However, the isolated particles are prone to aggregate and suffer from severe volume variation during electrochemical processes, resulting in compromised electrochemical properties. In this study, one-dimensional (1D) V2O5 nanowires are used as flexible backbone to string MOF-derived hollow Co3S4 three-dimensional (3D) nanopolyhedra to build robust core–shell 1D@3D V2O5@Co3S4 nanocomposites. The 1D V2O5 nanowires provide efficient electron transportation between Co3S4 nanopolyhedra. The hollow/porous structure of Co3S4 not only affords substantial electroactive sites, but also shortens the charge transport pathway.With these advantages, the optimal V2O5@Co3S4-5h displays enhanced electrochemical properties compared with control V2O5 or Co3S4-5h in three-electrode system. Furthermore, the asymmetric supercapacitor made from V2O5@Co3S4-5h exhibits high energy density (40.7 Wh/kg at 800 W/kg) with outstanding cycle durability, maintaining 85.9% incipient capacitance after 10,000 cycles. The present study opens up a new avenue for developing robust 1D@3D nanostructures for supercapacitors and electrocatalysis.

Abstract:In this work, we synthesized: the hierarchical ZnO@C@NiO core shell nanorods arrays (CSNAs). grown on a carbon cloth (CC) conductive substrate by a three-step Method involving, hydrothermal and chemical bath methods. The morphology and chemical structure of the hybrid nanoarrays were characterized in detail. The combination and formation mechanism was proposed. The conducting carbon layer between. ZnO and NiO layers can efficiently enhance the electric conductivity of the integrated electrodes, and also protea the corrosion of ZnO in an alkaline solution. Compared with ZnO@NiO nanorods arrays (NAs), the NiO in CC/ZnO@C@NiO electrodes, which possess a unique multilevel core-shell nanostructure exhibits a higher specific capacity (677 C/g at 1.43 A/g) and an enhanced cycling stability (capacity remain 71% after 5000 cycles), on account of the protection of carbon layer derived from glucose. Additionally, a flexible all-solid-state supercapacitor is readily constructed by coating the PVA/KOH gel electrolyte between the ZnO@C@NiO CSNAs and commercial graphene. The energy density of this all-solid-state device decreases from 35.7 to 16.0 Wh/kg as the power density increases from 380.9 to 2704.2 W/kg with an excellent cycling stability (87.5% of the initial capacitance after 10000 cycles). Thereby; the CC/ZnO@C@NiO CSNAs of three-dimensional hierarchical structure is promising electrode materials for flexible all-solid-state supercapacitors.

Abstract:Vanadyl hydroxide (VOOH) nanosheets have been synthesized for the first time using commercial vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) as vanadium source by a facile one-step hydrothermal reaction. The morphology and crystal structure of VOOH can be controlled simply by adjusting the ratio of ethylene glycol (EG) to deionized water (H2O) in the hydrothermal reaction. The electrochemical performance of the VOOH nanosheets as electrode material for supercapacitors was investigated in 1 mol L−1 LiClO4/propylene carbonate, and it was found that the highest specific capacitance of the VOOH nanosheets is 323 F g−1 at a current density of 0.2 A g−1 due to their higher specific surface area and electrochemical activity, which is 3 times large than that of VOOH nanoparticles and the reported VOOH hollow spheres. Meanwhile, the VOOH nanosheets also show a good cycling stability with a capacitance retention of 70% after 2000 cycles at a current density of 2 A g−1. This work demonstrates that the VOOH nanosheets, as a new member of two-dimensional materials family, not only can be simply synthesized by hydrothermal method, but also show an excellent electrochemical performance for supercapacitor applications.

V2O3 Nanoparticles Confined in High-Conductivity and High-Throughput Carbon Nanofiber Nanohybrids for Advanced Sodium-Ion Capacitors.

Abstract:Electrode materials with high conductivity and high mass transport rate are highly desirable for a variety of electrochemical energy devices but face a grand challenge to be readily prepared yet. Here, we propose the design and preparation of a nanohybrid of V2O3 nanoparticles embedded in a multichannel carbon nanofiber (V2O3@MCNF) network with high conductivity and high mass transport. We demonstrate the V2O3@MCNF shows superior capability for sodium storage with an excellent capacity of 214.3 mA h g-1 even at 5 A g-1, thanks to its high conductivity for electron transfer and facilitated mass transportation endowed by the one-dimensional conductive multichannel fiber structure. Such favorable structures and properties in V2O3@MCNFs enable them to be applied as high-performance anodes of sodium-ion hybrid capacitors (SIHCs), successfully addressing the critical kinetics imbalance between Faradaic anodes and capacitive cathodes for application of SIHCs, which show impressively high energy/power densities along with impressive cycling performance over 10,000 cycles.

Abstract:V2O5 nano-arrays with different structural units (i.e. rods, plates, and belts) were prepared by tailoring the protonation and dehydration of vanadate using different acids (HCl, H3PO4, HAc, and H2C2O4). The nanobelt-arrays showed a specific capacity as high as 255 mA h g(-1), while the nanoplate-arrays showed the best rate capability.

Abstract:Background Molecular sieve Versailles Santa Barbara-5 (VSB-5) is a highly porous nanomaterial for electrochemical supercapacitor. Methods A facile hydrothermal method is used to directly synthesize VSB-5 nanorods onto the Nickel Foam (NF). Significant findings In this work, one-dimensional single-crystal hydrogen nickel phosphate hydroxide hydrate (Ni 20 [(OH) 12 (H 2 O) 6 ][(HPO 4 ) 8 (PO 4 ) 4 ]·12H 2 O, also denotes as VSB-5, hexagonal nanorods arrays are successfully synthesized on NF via a hydrothermal method, and applied them as positive electrodes for hybrid supercapacitor (HSC). The resultant open framework of VSB-5 with unique nanochannels provides the synchronous advantages of a large surface area with numerous active sites for enhancing faradic redox reactions and abundant pathways for promoting electrolyte ions diffusion, thus leading to excellent energy storage behavior. Furthermore, the HSC is fabricated by paring the direct growth of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) on NF as the electrical-double-layer-capacitor negative electrode. Both the VSB-5/NF and CNTs/NF electrodes are binder-free hierarchical structures, owning the lowest interfacial resistivities between active materials and current collects, avoiding the aggregation issues to allow the facile diffusion of electrolyte for maximally utilizing the surface area. The resultant all binder-free VSB-5/NF//CNTs/NF HSC shows remarkable electrochemical performance, which delivers a maximum energy density of 46.9 W h kg −1 at a power density of 1225 W kg −1 with excellent capacity retention of 98.18% after 10,000 cycles. Abstract:We prepared the special alkali metal oxide doped cu catalyst by sol-gel combustion method.Through controlling the reaction temperature and the content of alkali metals in the catalyst,multiporous carbon nanofibers were synthesized using this kind of catalyst by thermal CVD method.Characterized by BET,TEM and Raman Spectrum method,the multiporous carbon nanofibers have specific surface are of 1162m2/g,which was much higher than the conventional carbon nanofibers.The BET results also show that there are plenty of mid-level holes in this structure,which could break the limitation of useful area and low specific capacitance.All of these characters make the multi-porous carbon nanofibers become a potential candidate of the electrode materials.Through the test of cyclic voltammetry and charge/discharge curve using the battery instrument and the electrochemical workstation,this kind of carbon nanofibers also show excellent electrochemical behavior,reversibility,and a electrochemical capacitance of 203F/g.These findings will be useful for studying of controlled preparation of carbon nano-materials,and also provide a supercapacitor electrode material with potential application.
Controllable Fabrication of NiV2O6 Nanosphere As a High-Performance Flexible All-Solid-state Electrode Material for Supercapacitors

Abstract:Flexible high-performance electrochemical capacitors have aroused much attention with their prospect applications in future wearable electronic devices. Herein, a new strategy for fabrication the NiV2O6 nanosphere by hydrothermal combined with subsequent room temperature liquid phase synthesis method was investigated. The introduced NH4+ during the preparation is benefit to attain the NiV2O6 architectures with high electrical conductivity, large surface area, and exclusive porous networks. When applied as active electrode materials for electrochemical energy storage device, NiV2O6 gives rise to superior specific capacity (565.5 C/g at 1 A/g) and cyclic stability (84.6% of initial capacity retention after 3000 cycles). An asymmetric supercapacitor device can reach voltage window of 1.6 V and supply an energy density of 24.3 Wh kg(-1) at the power density 800 W kg(-1) in an aqueous electrolyte and 7.8 W h kg(-1) at the power density of 850 W kg(-1) in a solid state gel electrolyte. The cyclic stability of flexible asymmetric supercapacitor has provided 74% capacitance retention over 3000 charge-discharge cycles. Thus, the NiV2O6 nanosphere electrode presents a great potential for flexible and transparent energy storage devices. (C) 2020 Published by Elsevier Inc.

Abstract:A thin polymer shell helps V2O5 a lot. Short V2O5 nanobelts are grown directly on 3D graphite foam as a lithium-ion battery (LIB) cathode material. A further coating of a poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) thin shell is the key to the high performance. An excellent high-rate capability and ultrastable cycling up to 1000 cycles are demonstrated.

Abstract:The controllable introduction of heteroatoms into electrode materials via doping is one of the most effective strategies to realize improved electrochemical reaction kinetics and then electrochemical energy storage properties. Herein, vanadium doped nickel-cobalt layered double hydroxide nanosheet arrays (NCV-LDH NSAs) were prepared via a one-step hydrothermal method and applied as a new class of efficient supercapacitor electrode. Benefiting from the exceptional porosities and abundant electroactive sites, the hierarchical NCV-LDH NSAs based electrodes reveal enhanced pseudocapacitive behaviors. Among all, the NCV-LDH-10 displays the highest performance with a specific capacitance of 2960 F g−1 at a current density of 1 A g−1 and retains 762 F g−1 at a high current density of 50 A g−1. The asymmetric supercapacitor was assembled based on NCV-LDH-10 hybrid and activated carbon (AC). It achieves a high energy density of 31.95 Wh kg−1 at a power density of 356 W kg−1. It is worth noting that the integrated electrode exhibits remarkable long-term cycling stability at a current density of 10 A g−1 and preserves about 81.8% of its original capacitance after 10,000 continuous cycles. The outcomes achieved can provide a potential chance for practical application in sustainable energy storage systems.

Abstract:Nanocomposites of interpenetrating carbon nanotubes and vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) nanowires networks are synthesized via a simple in situ hydrothermal process. These fibrous nanocomposites are hierarchically porous with high surface area and good electric conductivity, which makes them excellent material candidates for supercapacitors with high energy density and power density. Nanocomposites; with a capacitance up to 440 and 200 F g(-1) are achieved at current densities of 0.25 and 10 A g(-1), respectively. devices based on these nanocomposites and aqueous electrolyte exhibit an excellent charge/discharge capability, and high energy densities of 16 W h kg(-1) at a power density of 75 W kg(-1) and 5.5 W h kg(-1) at a high power density of 3 750 W kg(-1). This performance is a significant improvement over current electrochemical capacitors and is highly competetive with Ni-MH batteries. This work provides a new platform for high-density electrical-energy storage for electric vehicles and other applications.

Abstract:The exploration of desirable structure is of positive significance for energy storage materials. In particular, morphology design of the electrode materials greatly affects the electrochemical performance. Herein, controllable synthesis of cobalt vanadate with various structures on 3D urchin-like CoO microspheres is achieved. By precisely controlling the vanadium content, we obtain cobalt vanadate with diverse structures, including 3D hollow nanocages, 3D nanocages connected to polygonal nanosheets, 2D honeycomb-like nanosheets, and 2D irregular nanosheets on CoO microspheres. Adjusting the content and structure of cobalt vanadate allows us to optimize its electrochemical performance. The optimized cobalt vanadate with a structure of hollow cages connected to polygonal nanosheets supported by CoO skeleton exhibits a superior energy storage capacity, and the final CoO@Co2V2O7 electrode delivers an outstanding areal specific capacitance of 7.58 F cm−2 at 2 mA cm−2. In addition, the fabricated asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) possesses an excellent energy density of 0.45 mWh cm−2 at 1.60 mW cm−2, and an outstanding capacitance retention of 84.65% after 5000 cycles. In a word, the proposed strategy of structure-controllable cobalt vanadate supported by CoO is promising for supercapacitor electrode materials.

Chemical synthesis of binder-free nanosheet-like cobalt vanadium oxide thin film electrodes for hybrid supercapacitor devices

Abstract:To enhance the performance of energy storage devices, electrode materials must be designed with a strategic alteration of morphology and electroactive sites, utilizing synergy in bimetallic oxides. Therefore, the present study comprehensively demonstrates that variations in cobalt and vanadate precursor concentrations during chemical bath deposition (CBD) of cobalt vanadium oxide (C-CV) electrode materials significantly impact their physicochemical (structural, morphological and surface area) and electrochemical properties. An increase in vanadium content in the C-CV electrodes induces a notable morphological transformation, from nanoflakes to nanosheets with altered size and surface area. With a nanosheet-like morphology and a surface area of 87.5 m 2 g −1 , the binder-free C-CV4 electrode synthesized with an optimal precursor composition of cobalt and vanadium (1 : 2) exhibits an outstanding specific capacitance ( C s ) of 845.3 F g −1 (a specific capacity of 422.6 C g −1 ) at 1 A g −1 . Moreover, an aqueous hybrid supercapacitor device (AHSD) and a solid-state hybrid flexible supercapacitor device (SH-FSD) fabricated employing C-CV4 (cathode) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) (anode) exhibit noteworthy C s values of 115 F g −1 and 105.2 F g −1 , respectively. Furthermore, the AHSD attains a specific energy (SE) of 40.9 W h kg −1 at a specific power (SP) of 1.8 kW kg −1 , while the SH-FSD demonstrates an SE of 37.4 W h kg −1 at a SP of 0.86 kW kg −1 . To prepare large-scale binder-free cobalt vanadium oxide with tunable morphology as the cathode material in hybrid energy storage devices, a feasible CBD method is adequate, as demonstrated by the electrochemical performance of hybrid supercapacitor devices.

Abstract:In this work, two-dimensional V2O5 nanosheet arrays/one-dimensional Co3O4 nanoneedle arrays (2D VNSAs/1D CNNAs) composite is successfully prepared on nickel foam substrate. A variety of structural characterization techniques (SEM, XRD, EDS, TEM, and XPS) show that the as-prepared composite is V2O5 monocrystal with a layered structure grafting by Co3O4 polycrystal with a 1D needle-like structure. The VNSAs/CNNAs composite is used as supercapacitor electrode material. In a three-electrodes system, it shows high specific capacitance (Cs) values (1023 F g−1@5 mV s−1 from CV curve and 826 F g−1@0.5 A/g from GCD curve), a high coulombic efficiency (98.6 %@10 A/g), a good cyclic stability (92.7 % after 6000 cycles), a low charge transfer resistance (2.7 Ω), and a fast ionic diffusion rate (2.01 × 10−8 cm2 s−1). In a two-electrodes system, the assembled VNSAs/CNNAs//VNSAs/CNNAs symmetric supercapacitor has Cs values of 445 F g−1@5 mV s−1 and 363 F g−1@0.5 A/g. Its cycle stability and rate capability could reach up to 92.3 % and 90.7 % after 6000 cycels, respectively. It also shows a high energy density (Ed) of 127.3 Wh kg−1@400 W kg−1 and can retain 72.2 Wh kg−1@8000 W kg−1. The excellent electrochemical properties indicate that VNSAs/CNNAs composite can greatly increase the Ed of supercapacitors.
