Abstract:Herein, a Y(Mg1/2Sn1/2)O-3 (YMS) ceramic was synthesized using a conventional solid-state reaction method. Crystal structure of YMS was investigated via X-ray diffraction (XRD). Lattice vibrational modes were obtained through Raman scattering spectroscopy and Fourier transform far-infrared (FTIR) reflection spectroscopy to study its phonon characteristics. The main phase of YMS with the monoclinic P2(1)/n symmetry has been certified via XRD. The Raman active modes fitted with the Lorentzian function can be divided into three parts: vibration related to A-site Y cations, B-site (1 : 1 ordered structure of Mg2+ : Sn4+), and O ions. The eight far-infrared spectrum modes corresponded to different atomic structures of the vibration modes. Dielectric properties (epsilon(r) and tan delta(j)/omega) were deduced using the four-parameter semi-quantum model (FPSQ) and Clausius-Mossotti equation, as well as the relationship between the damping coefficient and the intrinsic loss. The imaginary and real parts of the dielectric constant were obtained via the Kramers-Kronig analysis.

Abstract:The non-stoichiometric Nd[Mg1/2(1+x)Sn1/2]O3 (NMS, − 0.04 ≤ x ≤ 0.04) were synthesized through a routine solid-state reaction process. The phase composition, phonon characteristics, and microwave dielectric properties were investigated by X-ray diffraction patterns, Scanning electron microscopy Raman and Fourier transform far-infrared reflection. The best crystallinity with uniformly distributed grains and clear grain boundaries at x = 0.01. The intrinsic properties were calculated by four-parameter semi-quantum model based on far-infrared reflectivity data, which agree well with those values obtained from the microscopic polarizabilities & damping coefficient angle. The correlations between intrinsic properties and lattice vibrational modes were discussed in particular.

The dielectric constant calculated according to FPSQ is similar to that obtained from the molecular polarization and the Clausius equation. The intrinsic loss has been determined by the relationship between the damping factor and the spectral center frequency, which is slightly larger than the value obtained in the four-parameter fitting, and indicates that A1g(Sm) Raman mode has a enormous effect on the dielectric loss. F3u(3) and F4u(4) have the greatest contribution to the dielectric constant and loss. Finally, the real and imaginary parts of permittivity were analyzed with Kramers-Krönig transformation.

SEM shows sample is dense and well-crystallized ceramic. The Raman spectrum with active modes were fitted with Lorentzian function, then these modes were assigned and illustrated, respectively. For example, the highest wavenumber mode above 650 cm−1 is attributed to A1g-like mode that corresponds to the symmetric breathing of oxygen octahedra. The far-infrared spectrum with seven infrared active modes was fitted by using four-parameter semiquantum models to calculate intrinsic properties, which agree well with the data calculated from Clausius-Mosotti equation, as well as the relationship between the damping coefficient and the intrinsic loss. F2u(2) yielded the greatest contribution to dielectric constant and loss, which is primarily represented as the inverted translational vibration of NdMgO6 octahedron. A1g(Nd) Raman mode in A-site has an enormous effect on the dielectric loss. The imaginary and real parts of the dielectric constant were obtained with the Kramers-Krönig analysis.

The dielectric properties obtained by fitting infrared reflectance spectra with the help of four-parameter semi-quantum model are consistent with the calculated values by microscopic polarization and damping coefficients. The reverse translational vibration of the Nd-MgO6, the F-5u((5)) mode, provides the greatest contribution to the dielectric response. Abstract:Ca1+2xSnSi2x+yO3+6x+2y (0.1 ≤ x ≤ 0.9; 0.1 ≤ y ≤ 0.9) microwave dielectric ceramics were prepared through traditional solid‐state reaction sintered at 1450 °C–1500 °C for 5 h. The Ca3SnSi2O9 second phase replaced the SnO2 second phase of the Ca1+2xSnSi2xO3+6x (x = 0, y = 0) ceramics by controlling the ratio of Ca:Sn:Si. The cracks of CaSnO3 (x = 0, y = 0) ceramic were inhibited, the microwave dielectric properties were optimized by introducing the Ca3SnSi2O9 second phase, and the CaSnO3–Ca3SnSi2O9 mixture system existed at (0.1 ≤ x ≤ 0.9, y = 0). The CaSnSiO5 phase with positive τf value was related to the Si‐rich in CaSnSiyO3+2y (x = 0; 0.1 ≤ y ≤ 0.9), and the coexistence of three and four phases was obtained at CaSnSiyO3+2y (0.1 ≤ y ≤ 0.9) ceramics. The CaSnSiO5 phase appeared at CaSnSiyO3+2y (0.3 ≤ y ≤ 0.9) ceramics. The CaSnSiyO3+2y (y = 0.8) ceramic with 49.2 wt% CaSnSiO5 phase exhibited excellent microwave dielectric properties: εr = 11.06, Q×f = 57,500 GHz (at 11.5 GHz), and τf = +8.1 ppm/°C.

Abstract:In this work, new compositions of Sr0.8Mg0.2(Sn1-xZrx)O3 0.00 ≤ x ≤ 0.06 ceramics are designed and synthesized by the conventional solid-state route. The influence of Zr doping on the phase, microstructural, optical, and dielectric properties is thoroughly investigated. The peaks (0 0 4) and (1 1 0) are observed to shift toward lower 2θ values, due to the variation of the ionic radius between Zr4+ and Sn4+. X-ray diffraction patterns reveal the orthorhombic structure with the space group Pbnm. Scanning electron microscopy images reveal the presence of pores and particles with a high degree of agglomeration. The functional groups and modes of vibration are determined by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy of the prepared metal oxide samples. The existence of green emission of all the synthesized samples around 554.91 nm is identified by photoluminescence spectroscopy. The dielectric properties of the fabricated samples are measured by using an impedance analyzer. The values of the tangent loss and relative permittivity are found to decrease with increasing frequency.

Abstract:Sr(Mg1/2Mo1/2)O3 (SMM) microwave dielectric ceramic was prepared by a solid-state sintering method. X-ray diffraction shows that the sample is a single-phase SMM with a tetragonal double perovskite structure (Fm-3m). Raman scattering and FTIR spectroscopy analyze the vibration characteristics of lattice. The far-infrared spectra of SMM ceramics fitted by a FPSQ model are obtained, εr = 7.39 and tanδ = 8.19 × 10–4. The theoretical properties calculated by the C-M and damping equations are of εr = 7.03 and tanδ = 6.19 × 10–4, which agrees well with the experimental values (εr = 7.84 and tanδ = 6.59 × 10–4). The results show that the stretching vibration of Mg/MoO6 has the greatest influence on the dielectric properties of the SMM sample.

Abstract:Ba1+xMoO4 (-0.03 <= x <= 0.03) ceramics were fabricated by a conventional two-step sintering technique. X-ray diffraction patterns show that there appeared new diffraction peaks when x > 0, which were identified as Ba2MoO5. The Rietveld refinement results indicate that the unit cell volume is the largest at x = -0.02, because it has the lowest packing fraction and covalency. The far-infrared reflectivity (IR) spectra were fitted and analyzed for calculating the intrinsic properties, which comply well with the data obtained from microscopic polarizabilities and damping coefficient angle. The proportion of each mode in the dielectric response demonstrates that the BaO8, polyhedra have a decisive role on the dielectric properties. And based on the Raman modes, the internal relations of the structural-properties were revealed with the changes of Ba2+ content.

Abstract:A phase pure Ba(Mg 1/2 Mo 1/2 )O 3 (BMM) ceramic was prepared by a traditional solid-state reaction method with a double perovskite structure (Fm-3 m), which is confirmed by X-ray diffraction. The scanning electron microscope image of the BMM sample confirmed the presence of dense grains and clear grain boundaries. The Raman and far-infrared reflection spectra were measured, and the lattice vibrational modes were analyzed in detail. The intrinsic properties were fitted by the four-parameter semi-quantum model based on the far-infrared spectrum, whose values ( ε r = 4.728, tan δ = 4.594 × 10 –4 ) were analogous to the theoretical values ( ε r = 4.290, tan δ = 5.962 × 10 –4 ) calculated by the Clausius–Mossotti (C–M) and damping equations, as well as the measured values ( ε r = 4.468, tan δ = 4.439 × 10 –4 ).

Abstract:Single phase ZnWO4 microwave dielectric ceramic was prepared by a traditional solid-state method, which possesses the monoclinic wolframite structure. The lattice vibrational modes were obtained by Raman and Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectra, whose phonon characteristics were analyzed by identification and description of the vibrational modes. Furthermore, the intrinsic properties of Single phase ZnWO4 was simulated based on FTIR data, and the contribution of each vibrational mode to the intrinsic properties was analyzed, in particular. The theoretical property values, calculated by the Clausius–Mossotti and damping equations, agree well with the data fitted by the four-parameter semi-quantum model according to FTIR spectrum.

Abstract:Ce2(Zr0.94Sn0.06)3(MoO4)9 (CZSM) ceramics were synthesized via a traditional solid-state method. The effects of Sn-substitution on phase composition, microstructure, and microwave dielectric properties as a function of sintering temperature were discussed. The XRD results indicated that all the samples exhibited a single phase. The chemical bonds of CZSM ceramics were calculated based on P-V-L theory, which could be used to evaluate the relationship between structure and microwave dielectric properties. The tendency of dielectric constant was depended on the theoretical dielectric polarizability and bond ionicity. Moreover, the improvement of Q·f value was ascribed to the increase of packing fraction. The reduced τf value could be explained by decrease of the bond energy, enhanced the co-efficient of thermal expansion and increase of bond valence (VZr(Sn)). The complex permittivity values were obtained from infrared reflectivity spectra. The dielectric permittivity and loss were 10.92 and 3.08 × 10−4, respectively, which agreed well with the measured value. Typically, the optimal microwave dielectric properties of εr = 10.35, Q·f = 59,660 GHz (at 9.70 GHz), and τf = −7.52 ppm/°C were achieved in CZSM ceramics sintered at 800°C for 6 h.

Compared with the conventional ceramic process, the synthesis process was greatly simplified, and dense YMnO3 ceramics with uniform microstructures were achieved at a relatively low temperature in very short time. Dielectric characteristics of dense YMnO3 ceramics were well evaluated over broad temperature and frequency ranges. An obvious dielectric relaxation was observed in the low temperature range and a dielectric step was detected in the higher temperature range. Systemic magnetism studies of the present YMnO3 ceramics indicated a weak ferromagnetic characteristic in the temperature lower than the antiferromagnetic transition temperature (TN).

Abstract:Based on precursor powders with a size of 200-300 nm prepared by the low-temperature solid-state reaction method, phase-pure YMnO₃ ceramics are fabricated using spark plasma sintering (SPS). X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) reveal that the high-purity YMnO₃ ceramics can be prepared by SPS at 1000 °C for 5 minutes with annealing at 800 °C for 2 h. The relative density of the sample is as high as 97%, which is much higher than those of the samples sintered by other methods. The present dielectric and magnetic properties are much better than those of the samples fabricated by conventional methods and SPS with ball-milling precursors, and the ferroelectric loops at room temperature can be detected. These findings indicate that the YMnO₃ ceramics prepared by the low temperature solid reaction method and SPS possess excellent dielectric lossy ferroelectric properties at room temperature, and magnetic properties at low temperature (10 K), making them suitable for potential multiferroic applications.

Abstract:In this article, garnet-type Y3Al5O12 (YAG) were doped with Mg2+-Si4+ ionic pairs and its effect on the structure and the microwave dielectric properties was investigated. It was revealed that in ceramics Y3MgxAl5-2xSixO12 (x = 0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0), increasing doping concentration decreased the sintering temperature and time for the optimal densification. X-ray diffraction studies showed that the samples are isostructural to Al5Y3O12 garnet. All sample were formed a single phase except for x = 2.0, where a secondary peak was detected. Excellent microwave dielectric properties of εr = 10.56, Q × f = 67,571 GHz and τf = -35.23 ppm/°C were obtained for Y3Mg0.5Al4Si0.5O12 ceramics sintered at 1625 °C for 5 h. The factors influencing the microwave dielectric properties of Y3MgxAl5-2xSixO12 ceramics were further discussed by considering the ionic polarization, packing fraction, average grain size and chemical bond valence theory.

Abstract:Microwave dielectric ceramics of (1 - x)Ba(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O-3-xBaSnO(3) [(1 - x)BMN-xBS] with high quality factors was synthesized by the solid-state reaction method. The effects of BaSnO3 additions (x = 0-0.2) on the sinterability, crystal structures, microwave dielectric properties, and microwave dielectric loss mechanisms of BMN were investigated systematically. The degree of 1:2 cation ordering was decreased with increasing Sn content and eventually faded away as x >= 0.1, where the low-temperature relaxations disappeared coincidently through the thermally stimulated depolarization current technique. It was supposed to be the short-range misplacements of the B-site cations within the long-range ordered structure. Meanwhile, the high-temperature relaxations associated with the in-grain oxygen vacancies were found in all the title compounds. Though the concentrations of oxygen vacancies of 0.8BMN-0.2BS were higher than BMN, high Q x f values could also be obtained even in the absence of 1:2 cation ordering. Specifically, the excellent characteristics like epsilon(r) = 29.02, Q x f = 90 000 GHz and tau(f) = 6.3 ppm/degrees C were achieved in the specimens of x = 0.2 sintered at 1450 degrees C.
