Abstract:Herein, FeOx-supported ZSM-5 exhibited excellent catalytic performance in the aromatization of methanol, similar to ZnOx-supported ZSM-5 but with much longer life time. Coating of FeOx/ZSM-5 catalyst with a SiO2 shell is effective to suppress the isomerization of xylene and hydrogen transfer from propylene to propane on the external surface. As a result, FeOx/ZSM-5@SiO2 exhibited gross yield of C-2-C-3 olefins and para-xylene (carbon base) far higher than that of HZSM-5, ZnOx/ZSM-5, and ZnOx/ZSM-5@SiO2.
Preparation of Fe@Si/S-34 Catalysts and Its Catalytic Performance for Syngas to Olefins

Abstract:The direct synthesis of light olefins from syngas via Fischer-Tropsch synthesis reaction is a promising technology for direct synthesis of olefins from syngas. The key is to improve the selectivity of light olefins through the regulation of product distribution. In this work, the hydrophobic Fe@Si catalyst was prepared by room temperature solid state methodStober-silylation method, and then the catalyst was combined with SAPO-34 molecular sieves with different contents to prepare Fe@Si/S-34 composite catalysts. The effects of SAPO-34 molecular sieve content on the physicochemical properties of the catalysts were investigated by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, N-2 adsorption-desorption, NH3 temperature programmed desorption and water contact angle measurement. The results showed that the content of SAPO-34 molecular sieve has significant influence on the surface area, pore volume, acidity and hydrophobicity of the catalysts. With the increase of SAPO-34 molecular sieve content, the specific surface area and total pore volume of the catalyst increased, the weak acid and medium-strong acid sites increased, and the hydrophobicity weakened. The catalytic performance evaluation results showed that the Fe@Si/S-34 composite catalyst decomposed C5+ hydrocarbons into light hydrocarbons, significantly reduced the selectivity of C5+ products and increased the selectivity of C2 similar to C4 hydrocarbons. Appropriate SAPO-34 molecular sieve could significantly improve the selectivity of C2 similar to C-4 olefins. When the mass ratio of Fe@Si catalyst to SAPO-34 is 2, the C-2 similar to C-4 olefin selectivity of Fe@Si/S-34 catalyst is the highest, the conversion of CO is 80.0%, the selectivity of CO2 in the product is 8.9%, and the selectivity of C-2 similar to C-4 olefins is 31.1%. In this study, the hydrophobicity of Fe@Si catalyst and the cracking activity of SAPO-34 molecular sieve for C5+ hydrocarbon were coupled together to inhibit the water-gas shift (WGS) reaction, reduce the CO2 selectivity and obtain higher C-2 similar to C-4 olefin selectivity, which provided a new strategy for the development of catalysts for Fischer-Tropsch synthesis to olefins.

Abstract:Catalytic in situ hydrogenation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) to 2,5-dimethylfuran (DMF) has received a great interest in recent years. However, the issue of the consumption of expensive hydrogen donors, such as secondary alcohols, limits its applications. In this work, a ternary CuZnCoOx catalyst, exhibiting a 99% yield of DMF from in situ hydrogenation of 5-HMF with ethanol as economical hydrogen donor, is developed. High resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS-mapping), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and temperature programmed reduction (TPR) reveal the synergy effect of each components. Reaction mechanism studies unravel the CoO x results in promoting in situ H-2 production from ethanol, the zinc oxide accelerates the aldehyde group (-CHO) hydrogenation to hydroxymethy] group (-CH2OH) and the formation of Cu-Co alloy significantly facilitate the hydrogenation of 5-HMF. Additionally, this ternary CuZnCoOx catalyst exhibits superior recyclability without losing any activity during 6 cycles experiment. (C) 2019 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Abstract:The conversion of CO2 into high-value chemicals has drawn a great deal of consideration, of which the most ideal product is lower olefins. However, the modified Fischer-Tropsch (F-T) synthesis with CO as an intermediate shows poor selectivity for lower olefins. Here, a list of bifunctional catalysts consisting of SAPO-34 zeolites with adjustable silicon contents and In2O3/ZrO2 were synthesized. In the reaction process, CO2 is first hydrogenated to methanol over an In2O3/ZrO2 catalyst, and then the generated methanol rapidly diffuses to the adjacent zeolite catalyst to react to lower olefins. The selectivity of lower olefins (88.3%) and conversion rate of CO2 (23.3%) was achieved over In2O3/ZrO2 and SAPO-34-0.05 at 633 K, a gas hourly space velocity (GHSV) of 4500 ml center dot gcat(-1)center dot h(-1), and H-2/CO2/Ar = 3:1:1. The catalytic performance remained stable after 50 h of reaction. Characterization analysis showed that Si content affected the content of Bronsted acid sites (BAS) and morphology of SAPO-34, resulting in different distribution of reaction intermediates. Tetramethyl-benzenes, as important intermediate species, had a slower conversion rate on the SAPO-34 with low Si content and nanosheet morphology, which led to high lower olefins selectivity. Abstract:A prepared FeZnNa@SiO2-C catalyst with graphitized carbon (C)-modified mesoporous SiO2 supports metal nanoparticles with the sol–gel method. The effect of adding metal Na and Zn promoters as a dispersion on the CO2 hydrogenation to low olefins was systematically studied. The results showed that Zn–Na, as a combination, could promote the absorption of CO2 and improved the conversion rate of CO2. Na as an alkaline substance can improve the absorption of more acidic CO2, which could increase the conversion rate of CO2 to 59.03%. Meanwhile, the addition of secondary metal Zn to Fe-based catalysts to form a surface alloy could alter the adsorption of CO2 and the activation of C-O bonds, inhibit the subsequent hydrogenation of olefins to paraffins, and facilitate the reduction of Fe2O3 and the formation of active Fe5C2 species. The formation of active Fe5C2 species was found in TEM and XRD, and the selectivity of the target product was 41.07%. The deep hydrogenation of olefins was inhibited, and the space–time yield (STY) of low olefins was raised again by inhibiting their deep hydrogenations, up to 0.0436. However, the corresponding STY did not increase infinitely with the increase of Na doping, and higher catalytic performance for CO2 hydrogenation could be exhibited when the Na doping reached 6.4%. Compared with Fe@SiO2-C catalyst, Na- and Zn-promoted Fe-based catalysts, prepared by the modified sol-gel method, can be used directly for highly efficient CO2 hydrogenation to low olefins and thus has a more promising application prospect in the future.

Abstract:The ternary Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 catalyst is usually employed for producing methanol from syngas (CO/CO2/H2) or from CO2 hydrogenation in industry. However, this catalyst often suffers from the aggregation of Cu nanoparticles and the phase separation of Cu and ZnO. In this work, a highly efficient and stable catalyst (Cu/ZnOx/ZrO2) for CO2 hydrogenation to methanol is prepared via co-precipitation method with UiO-66 as structural template. Cu/Zn is effectively combined and encapsulated in the channels of UiO-66, which avoids the aggregation of metal particles. The ZrO2 support derived from UiO-66 enhances the interaction between the support and Cu/Zn, and thus improves the catalytic performance significantly. This catalyst shows a high space–time yield of 216.7 g(MeOH)·kg(cat)−1·h−1 at 260 °C, 4 MPa and GHSV = 12000 h−1. Furthermore, the catalyst shows good stability over a period of 50 h on stream. The performance of Cu/ZnOx/ZrO2 is much better than that of commercial catalysts and most of catalysts previously reported.

Abstract:In this work, we report a carbon-mediated strategy to construct supported Co-MnOx nano-interfacial catalyst that enables highly selective synthesis of long-chain linear alpha-olefins (C-5+(=)) via the Fischer-Tropsch (FT) reaction. The co-impregnation of glucose as the carbon precursor and metal salt aqueous solution over SiO2 followed by pyrolysis and oxidation creates a catalyst with stable and rich Co-MnOx nano-interfaces after reduction and under FT conditions, which are convincingly revealed from characterizations of the catalysts at different stages. The optimal catalyst is stable for over 400 h without an observably decreased CO conversion, and the highest spacetime yield of C-5+(=) is achieved to be 0.79 g & sdot;gCo(-1)& sdot;h(-1), which are mainly originated from the suppressed sintering of metallic Co and favored CO adsorption/dissociation with a reasonably inhibited H-2 co-adsorption. The simple procedure and broad availability of precursors make our developed strategy a practically important surfaceengineering method capable of precisely fabricating stable nano-interfacial catalysts.

Abstract:CO2 hydrogenation to olefines is a feasible carbon capture and utilization (CCU) route. The process includes sequential reactions of reverse water gas shift (RWGS) reaction and Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FTS) reaction. The acceleration of FTS is crucial to improve the olefines yield. A microemulsion anti-solvent extraction (MAE) method was proposed to prepare Fe-based catalyst on the support of Al2O3. Ethanol solution of Fe(NO3)3 was encapsulated in microdroplets, and then loaded on Al2O3 by the extraction of ethanol from the microdroplets to isooctane phase. The average size of micro droplets was 7.5 nm. After calcination, the particle size of Fe2O3 was 6 nm. After carburization with CO, the interface formed between Fe3O4 and Fe5C2 was restricted in a narrow space with a mean size of 12 nm. Through TEM-Mapping, XRD, XPS and TPC characterization, the distribution uniformity of Fe and the neighboring degree of Fe3O4 and Fe5C2 on the as-prepared catalyst MAE-Fe1K1 was improved effectively. An enhanced synergistic effect between Fe3O4 and Fe5C2 was obtained. The catalytic performance evaluation results showed that yield of C2-C4 olefins reached 0.063 mmol·gFe−1·s−1 after 12 h of reaction. It exhibited better catalytic performance than most catalysts reported in the literatures. The results showed that the proposed microemulsion anti-solvent extraction strategy is an effective method to prepare Fe-based catalyst for CO2-FTO reaction with an excellent catalytic performance.
Selective Synthesis Of Para-Xylene And Light Olefins From Co2/H-2 In The Presence Of Toluene

Abstract:Catalytic hydrogenation of CO2 with renewable H-2 into valuable chemicals such as para-xylene and light olefins (C-2(=)-C-4(=)), which are important raw materials for the production of various commodities, is highly attractive. Herein we report that an oxide-zeolite (OXZEO) composite catalyst composed of ZnCrOx-ZSM-5 enables the selective synthesis of para-xylene and light olefins from CO2/H-2 in the presence of toluene. The product selectivities depend strongly on the acidity and location of acid sites of the zeolite function. By modifying ZSM-5 with silica, the external acid sites are shielded, and the pore openings are narrowed, which enhances significantly the formation of para-xylene. By modifying the zeolite with phosphorus, light olefins are co-produced due to the weakened acidity. As a result, the para-xylene fraction in xylene isomers reaches 82.8%, and the light olefin fraction in aliphatic hydrocarbons is as high as 75.8% when CO2 conversion is 20.9% and toluene conversion is 10.6%. Furthermore, the catalyst exhibits a good stability within a 100 h test. This provides a potential route for utilization of centralized greenhouse gas for synthesis of value-added chemicals.

Abstract:The core–shell catalysts with Cu and Cu/ZnO nanoparticles coated by mesoporous silica shells are prepared for CO2 hydrogenation to methanol. With the confined effect of silica shell, the size of Cu nanoparticles is only about 5.0nm, which results in high activity for CO2 conversion. The CH3OH selectivity is enhanced significantly with the introduction of ZnO. The core–shell structured catalysts endow the Cu nanoparticles trapped inside with excellent anti-aggregation and no deactivation is observed with time-on-stream. Therefore, the core–shell Cu/ZnO@m-SiO2 catalyst exhibits the maximum CH3OH yield with high stability.

Abstract:The methanol–toluene alkylation process over zeolites catalysts offers a promising route for the production of p-xylene from low-cost feedstocks. Herein, we present a catalyst by preparing a core-shell aluminosilicate zeolite with an epitaxial silicalite-1 shell that passivates acid sites on the exterior surfaces. The para-selectivity was obviously increased due to the inhibition of the unselective isomerization of p-xylene over the external acid sites, and the open porous structure of the silicalite-1 shell ensured the mass transfer of reactants and products. Meanwhile, the carbon deposition was suppressed over HZSM-5@silicalite-1 catalysts, as a result of the decreased external acid sites. Furthermore, pulse chromatographic experiments revealed that the silicalite-1 coating could also improve the separation efficiency of p-xylene over o-xylene and m-xylene, due to the steric hindrance and extended diffusion path, resulting in a higher selectivity for p-xylene compared to that of the parent HZSM-5. The HZSM-5@4%S-1 catalyst showed the highest p-xylene selectivity (>80%) and methanol efficiency (66%), with good catalytic stability throughout the 170 h reaction time.

Abstract:Aromatics assume a paramount role as indispensable organic chemical feedstock within diverse industrial domains. Simultaneously, the global aromatics market is scarce, particularly with the exorbitant demand for high-value aromatics. Generating aromatics via coal-based methanol and low-carbon hydrocarbon coupling reactions has become a novel green and sustainable development trajectory. In this study, HZSM-5 catalysts featuring different Si/Al ratios and active metal-functionalized modifications were utilized to explore the aromatization effect in light of the Si/Al ratio, types of active components, and metal-loading content in a fixed-bed reactor. The outcomes were that the conversion ratios for methanol and n-pentane attained 99.9% and 83.1%, respectively. Remarkably, an oil phase yield of 32.1% was accomplished, along with an aromatic content of approximately 74.2%, while xylene selectivity reached approximately 37.6% for the 1.0%-ZnO/ZSM-5 (50) catalyst. Ultimately, a reaction mechanism for the coupling of methanol and n-pentane to yield aromatics using a 1.0%-ZnO/ZSM-5(50) catalyst is postulated.

Abstract:Abstract Cu/ZnO methanol catalysts were deposited over several ZSM-5 acid zeolites to directly synthesise oxygenates (methanol and dimethyl ether) from a CO 2 /H 2 feed. Catalysts were prepared by two different preparation methodologies: chemical vapour impregnation (CZZ-CVI) and oxalate gel precipitation (CZZ-OG). Chemical vapour impregnation led to Cu/ZnO being deposited on the zeolite surface, whilst oxalate gel precipitation led to the formation of Cu/ZnO agglomerates. For both sets of catalysts a higher concentration of mild and strong acid sites were produced, compared to the parent ZSM-5 zeolites, and CZZ-CVI had a higher concentration of acid sites compared to CZZ-OG. Nevertheless, CZZ-OG shows considerably higher oxygenate productivity, 1322 mmol Kg cat −1 h −1 , compared to 192 mmol Kg cat −1 h −1 over CZZ-CVI (ZSM-5(50), 250 °C, 20 bar, CO 2 /H 2 = 1/3, 30 ml min −1 ), which could be assigned to a combination of smaller particle size and enhanced methanol mass transfer within the zeolites.

Abstract:A novel FeCoMnK/BeO catalyst was prepared by impregnation method and evaluated in the synthesis of light olefins from carbon dioxide hydrogenation. It is found that the yield of light olefins reaches the highest under the conditions of 647 K, 3?000 h -1 and CO 2/H 2 molar ratio 1/3. On BeO supported catalyst, the yield of light olefins is much higher than that on Al 2O 3, SiO 2 and active carbon supported catalysts. By the studies of in situ FT IR, a possible mechanism is proposed on the basis of surface intermediates.

Abstract:A Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 catalyst has been extensively studied in CO2 hydrogenation to methanol, where the methanol selectivity usually decreases with increasing CO2 conversion because of the thermodynamically oriented CO production. Herein, we found that the CO2 conversion and methanol selectivity over the Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 catalyst could be simultaneously improved through zirconia modulation (CZAZ). The structural characterizations show that the zirconia efficiently increases both the surface area and Cu dispersion on the catalyst. In the CO2-to-methanol transformation, it is found that the zirconia could significantly hinder the decomposition of the CH3O* intermediate to benefit its hydrogenation to methanol, a crucial step in this transformation. These features simultaneously optimized the CO2 conversion and methanol selectivity, giving methanol space-time productivity at 1376 g(MeOH)/(kg(cat)center dot h). In addition, the CZAZ catalyst was durable in a continuous test for 200 h over a wide temperature range of 200-250 degrees C, which is important for its potential application.

Abstract:Conversion of CO2 using renewable hydrogen to produce valuable chemicals has recently become highly attractive. Light olefins are important basic monomers for the production of various commodities. This work developed a bifunctional catalyst composed of ZnO-Y2O3 oxide and SAPO-34 zeolite, which catalyzes the selective hydrogenation of CO2 to light olefins with a selectivity in hydrocarbons reaching 83.9% at a conversion of 27.6% at 390 degrees C. The obtained results demonstrated that CO2 conversion and product distribution are strongly dependent on the oxide composition and structure. This new bimetallic oxide catalyst appears promising for further development of CO2 conversion to other valuable chemicals.
Optimizing interfacial interaction between Cu and metal oxides boosts methanol yield in CO2 hydrogenation

Abstract:Thermocatalytic conversion of redundant CO2 to useful methanol is an attractive route to address both energy and environmental crises simultaneously. However, existing copper/oxide catalysts widely used in these thermocatalytic processes still suffer from low methanol yield under mild reaction conditions. In this work, we design inverse oxide/Cu catalysts to achieve superior thermal catalytic performance for CO2 hydrogenation. The optimized ZnO/Cu-1.0 catalyst exhibits maximum CH3OH selectivity of 83.4% and space–time yield (STY) of 170.9gCH3OHkgcat-1h-1$$170.9\;{\text{g}}_{{{\text{CH}}_{3} {\text{OH}}}} \;{\text{kg}}_{{{\text{cat}}}}^{ - 1} \;{\text{h}}^{ - 1}$$ in CO2 hydrogenation at 210 °C, nearly twofold higher STY than the previous optimal inverse ZnO/Cu catalysts (89.6gCH3OHkgcat-1h-1$$89.6\;{\text{g}}_{{{\text{CH}}_{3} {\text{OH}}}} \;{\text{kg}}_{{{\text{cat}}}}^{ - 1} \;{\text{h}}^{ - 1}$$at 250 °C). Importantly, ZnO/Cu-1.0 catalyst displayed not only a satisfactory catalytic stability but also a superior CH3OH STY with a time-on-stream of 24 h. Abstract:Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 catalyst has been widely studied in the hydrogenation of CO2 to methanol, but it still suffers from insufficient catalyst stability and methanol selectivity. Herein, we overcome these issues by introducing the silica promoter to the catalyst, achieving the Cu/ZnO/Al2O3/SiO2 (CZAS) catalysts with significantly improved methanol selectivity and catalyst durability. Characterizations of samples showed that the silica species efficiently hindered the sintering of Cu nanoparticles during the catalysis, exhibiting constant performances in the continuous tests. In addition, the silica also electronically modulated the Cu nanoparticles that result in abundant Cuδ+ species in the catalyst, which minimized the methanol decomposition to improve the methanol selectivity, compared with the silica-free Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 catalyst. As a result, the CZAS exhibited CO2 conversion at 12.6 % and methanol selectivity at 85.1 %, giving a one-pass methanol yield at 10.7 %. The strategy in this work might provide an efficient route for enhancing the current industrial catalysts.

Abstract:Keeping water away Syngas, a mixture of carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrogen, allows nonpetroleum resources such as biomass and natural gas to be converted to chemical products through Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. However, for the production of olefins, a key feedstock for other chemicals, about 50% of the CO is transformed to carbon dioxide and methane. Xu et al. decreased the selectivity for these undesired by-products to under 25% by modifying their catalyst, nanoparticles of iron doped with manganese and coated with a silica, with methyl groups (see the Perspective by Xie). This hydrophobic surface shortens the retention time of water on the catalyst surface to avoid the unwanted side reactions, and also suppresses oxidation of the metal carbide catalyst that forms under reaction conditions.
