Abstract:A novel method toward synthesis of sulfonamides and β-arylsulfonyl enamines has been developed via I2/TBHP mediated C-N and C-H bond cleavage of tertiary amines, which features highly selective formation of two different target products depending on the reaction solvent. The experimental results reveal that H2O as the solvent could effectively achieve the C-N bond cleavage to produce sulfonamides due to H2O participating in the reaction process where H2O plays a dual role. Differing from H2O, organic solvents (such as dimethyl sulfoxide) could promote the C-H bond cleavage of tertiary amines to yield β-arylsulfonyl enamines.

Abstract:It is shown here for the first time that diethyl azodicarboxylate promotes dehydrogenation of tertiaryamines to afford enamines, which subsequently take place in tandem reactions with sulfonyl azides to give the N-sulfonyl amidine derivatives. A number of different substituted tertiaryamines and sulfonyl azides can successfully be coupled, and several functionalized groups are tolerated in this system. The reaction described here is mild, general, and efficient, thus providing an extremely preferable method for synthesis of a variety of N-sulfonyl amidine derivatives.

Abstract:Copper(II)-catalyzed synthesis of sulfones from sulfinate salts and aryl halides was investigated by means of a combination of experiment and DFT calculation. Experimental results demonstrated the wide applicability of the title approach. The reaction mechanisms are revealed by in-situ IR and theoretical study. It reveals remarkable ligand effect the bidentate amine plays in the reaction, that is, it initially activats the C-I bond of iodobenzene so as to enhance the whole catalytic process. Abstract:With DMSO as the solvent and the precursor of a -SO2Me unit at room temperature, a novel electrochemical oxidization and amination of DMSO with amines was developed for the synthesis of sulfonamides. Our investigations reveal that this transformation may involve a radical process and an electrochemical oxidization of DMSO.

Abstract:A novel and efficient method for the synthesis of sulfenamides with an S–N bond, which have attracted attention as industrial reagents and biologically active substances, is described herein. The reactions of benzoazole‐2‐thiones with various primary or secondary amines in the presence of triphenylbismuth dichloride at 60 °C in DMSO under aerobic conditions afforded the corresponding sulfenamides in moderate‐to‐excellent yields. This reaction is the first example of an efficient S–N bond formation reaction utilizing a low‐toxicity pentavalent organobismuth reagent under mild reaction conditions. The reaction will likely be applied to develop bioactive compounds with medicinal value or compounds with industrial utility.

Abstract:A copper-catalyzed aminosulfonylation of aryldiazonium tetrafluoroborates, DABCO·(SO2)2, and N-chloroamines is described. This coupling reaction provides an efficient and simple approach to a wide range of sulfonamides in moderate to good yields under mild conditions. Mechanistic investigation suggests that a radical process and transition-metal catalysis are merged in this tandem reaction.
