Abstract:We present here an unprecedented cobalt-catalyzed enantioselective vinylation of alpha-ketoesters, isatins, and imines to deliver a range of synthetically useful allylic alcohols and amines in high enantiopurity. This method employs commercially available and easy to handle catalysts and reagents and exhibits a high degree of practicality. The efficiency, selectivity, and operational simplicity of this catalytic system coupled with the substrate generality render this method a valuable tool in organic synthesis.

Abstract:A highly chemo-,regio-,and stereo-selective cobalt-catalyzed dehydrogenative silylation of vinylarenes was described.The imidazoline iminopyridine cobalt complex could promote this reaction effectively and improve the chemoselectivity dramatically.This protocol used earth-abundant transition metal,readily available alkenes and hydrosilanes to construct valuable vinylsilanes.The reaction could be carried out in gramscale and the proposed mechanism was also described.

Abstract:We present herein a novel cobalt/zinc bimetallic catalysis system for the realization of an efficient and enantioselective alkynylation of isatins and α-ketoesters using terminal alkynes. By using a simple procedure with all commercially available catalysts, including cobalt bromide, a chiral bisphosphine ligand, and zinc triflate, a range of synthetically useful tertiary propargylic alcohols are accessed with high yields and good enantioselectivities. Control reactions showed that this catalytic system proceeds through activation of the terminal alkyne by zinc triflate and a base, transmetalation from zinc to cobalt, and then the enantio-determining alkynylation of ketones.

Abstract:We report a cobalt-catalyzed desymmetrizing isomerization of exo-cyclic alkenes to generate chiral 1-methylcyclohexene derivatives with good yields and enantioselectivities. A novel chiral thiazolinyl iminoquinoline ligand and its cobalt complex were designed and synthesized to control the establishment of tertiary or quaternary carbon centers at a remote position. This protocol is operationally simple, and a model for the stereochemical outcome has been proposed.

Abstract:A highly chemo-, regio- and stereoselective cobalt-catalyzed Markovnikov hydrosilylation of alkynes was developed. Various functionalized groups, such as halides, free alcohols, free aniline, ketones, esters, amides, and nitriles are tolerated, which may lead to further applications and late-stage derivatizations. To date, this is the most efficient cobalt catalytic system (TOF=65520h(-1); TOF=turnover frequency) for hydrosilylation of alkynes. The Hiyama-Denmark cross-coupling reactions of vinylsilanes with aryl iodides underwent smoothly to afford 1,1-diarylethenes. A unique regioselectivity-controllable hydrosilylation/hydroboration reaction of alkynes was also described.

Abstract:Catalytic enantioselective alkenylation of aldehydes with easily accessible alkenyl halides promoted by a chiral cobalt complex derived from a newly developed tridentate bisoxazolinephosphine is presented. Such processes represent an unprecedented reaction pathway for cobalt catalysis and a general approach that enable rapid construction of highly diversified enantioenriched allylic alcohols containing a 1,1-, 1,2-disubstituted and trisubstituted alkene as well as axial stereogenicity in up to 99% yield and 99:1 er without the need of preformation of alkenyl–metal reagents. DFT calculations revealed the origin of enantioselectivity.

Abstract:Vinylcarbene insertion into the nitrogen-hydrogen (N-H) bond of amines allows direct access to alpha,beta-unsaturated gamma-amino acid derivatives, meeting a marked challenge in the control of regio- and enantioselectivities. Here, we report a highly gamma-selective and enantioselective insertion into N-H bonds of aliphatic or aromatic secondary amines with vinyl substituted alpha-diazo pyrazoleamides using a high-spin chiral N,N'-dioxide/cobalt(II) complex catalyst. The method affords a wide variety of valuable optically active Z- and E-type vinyl gamma-amino amides. Calculation reveals a spin state change from the quartet cobalt(II) complex to a doublet Co(II)-carbene species for facile Z-selective and enantioselective nucleophilic addition.
