Abstract:A one-pot synthesis of 9-arylxanthenes from easily prepared o-hydroxy bisbenzylic alcohols and diaryliodonium salts has been reported. O-hydroxy bisbenzylic alcohols were utilized to generate carbinols in situ with diaryliodonium salts promoted by base. Carbinols were then subjected to Bronsted acid catalyzed cyclization to furnish 9-arylxanthenes. A variety of symmetrical and unsymmetrical 9-aryxanthenes have been prepared assisted by base and Bronsted acid under mild conditions with satisfactory yields (up to 95% yield). Furthermore, the procedure is capable of tolerating a wide range of substrates (36 examples).

Abstract:An enantioselective one-pot Michael/Michael/Henry/hemiacetalization reaction between alpha,beta-unsaturated aldehydes, alpha-ketoamides, and nitroalkenes under mild conditions catalyzed by a diarylprolinol silyl ether has been developed. The sequential methodology provides a direct approach to a wide range of fully substituted chiral oxabicyclo[2.2.2]octanes with seven contiguous stereocenters in moderate to excellent yields (up to 99%), high to excellent diastereoselectivities (up to >25:1 dr), and high to excellent enantioselectivities (up to 99% ee).

Abstract:A Lewis-acid-promoted approach to the synthesis of highly functionalized dihydrobenzofuran derivatives was developed. A diverse range of functional groups are tolerated in this type of reaction. The reaction mechanism investigation indicates that the highly reactive phenyl cation intermediate is probably involved in this process. The chirality of substrate is retained under the reaction conditions.

Abstract:Multi-component condensation of 2-naphthol, aromatic aldehydes, and cyclic 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds catalyzed by ionic liquid [NSPTEA][HSO 4 ] was accomplished for the synthesis of a series of 12-aryl-8,9,10,12-tetrahydrobenzo[a]xanthen-11-ones under solvent-free conditions. High yields, ease recovery, short reaction time and reusability of catalyst are significant advantages. ZrOCl 2 ·8H 2 O was also found to act as an effective catalyst towards this transformation.

Abstract:An efficient method of Titanium(IV) mediated one-pot reaction approaching aromatic homoallylic alcohols from aldehydes and dual Grignard reagents was developed with good isolated yields. This method could use aromatic-, heteroaromatic-, or aliphatic-aldehydes as starting materials. However, electron-riched benzaldehyde or cinnamaldehyde tended to precede further hydroxyl eliminations to give all conjugated structures as demonstrated.

Abstract:The excellent reactivity of diaryliodonium salts has primarily been attributed to the efficient departure of the iodoarene unit, facilitating a variety of arylation reactions. However, one equivalent of iodoarene as a side‐product is a chemical waste in these reactions, which was criticized by chemists for hindering its popularity. Recently, the development of synthetic methodology that preserve the aryl iodine moiety received increasing attention. Oxidative rearrangement reactions involving aryliodonium reagents have significantly addressed the atom‐economic issue, thereby broadening the reaction scope. The resulting intricate aryliodine products are viewed as valuable synthons for the synthesis of natural products, pharmaceutical intermediates and other fine chemicals.

Abstract:A tandem arylation/oxidation of diarylmethanes for the convenient synthesis of unsymmetrical triarylmethanols bearing different aryl and heteroaryl groups is described. A Pd(OAc)(2)-NiXantphos catalyst system efficiently catalyzed arylation of weakly acidic sp(3)-hybridized C-H bonds of diarylmethanes with aryl bromides, and the arylation products were then oxidized in situ to carbinols by simply opening the reaction flasks to air. Abstract:In this study, we present an efficient site-selective O-arylation method applicable to a broad range of complex arenes involving intramolecular aryl rearrangement. The reaction was facilitated by diaryliodonium salts bearing vicinal trifluoromethanesulfonate (OTf) groups. The procedure was initiated with selective C-H bond activation of arenes, which were then converted into diaryl ethers through nucleophilic aromatic substitution (SNAr). This synthetic method successfully affords complex diaryl ether derivatives, showcasing its practicality for the diversification of functionalized arenes and pharmaceutical agents.

Abstract:Arynes are highly reactive intermediates that may be trapped with arynophilic reagents. However, the generation of benzyne necessitates stringent reaction conditions. The cycloaddition reaction of traditional benzyne precursors including diaryliodonium salts with arynophiles under strongly basic conditions encounters the limitations in tolerance of labile functional groups. To overcome this issue, the modulation of diaryliodonium structures are considered by incorporation of specific groups for activation of vinical C-H bond, enabling the generation of aryne intermediates in cycloaddition reactions under mild conditions. In this study, we reported meta-trifluoromethanesulfonate (OTf) substituted diaryliodonium salts as benzyne precursor, in which the activation of C-I bond and selectively deprotonation of neighboring C-H bond generate highly reactive aryne intermediates for cycloaddition reactions with furans. This approach offers a simple and efficient method for synthesizing bridged ring compounds under mild reaction conditions with good functional group tolerance.
