Abstract:By using O-benzoyl hydroxylamines as amine sources, the first convenient copper-catalyzed electrophilic amination of sodium sulfinates has been realized. Even with 2 mol% catalyst loading, the protocol provided an efficient and straightforward synthesis of a broad range of functional sulfonamides under ambient reaction conditions without an additional base and ligand. Based on the control experiments, a plausible mechanism was proposed.

Abstract:A broad range of N-sulfonyformamidines, widely used intermediates for drugs, were synthesized in moderate to excellent yields from 2-Pyridinemethanamine as N-source via Copper-catalyzed C-N cleavage. Firstly, N-(2-pyridinylmethyl)benzenesulfonamides were smoothly synthesized via 2-pyridinemethanamine and sulfonyl chlorides, then reacted with N,N-dimethylformamide dimethyl acetal to obtain the corresponding N-Sulfonylformamidines analogs, during which pyridin-2-ylmethyl and sulfonyl groups were essential for the C-N bond cleavage. The current work presents a valuable complementarity to the synthesis of N-sulfonyformamidines as 2-pyridinemethanamine can provide the N source and sulfonyl chloride,s which could be original materials. Background: N-sulfonylamidines have gained considerable attention from schools and industries because of their unique bioactivity. Since Pinner's strategy, expanding the synthesis methods of N-sulfonylamidines has been the goal of many organic chemists over the past decades. Besides the crash reaction conditions and the participation of undesirable reagents, the production of N-sulfonylamidines commonly required unstable ammonia and azides as the source of nitrogen that hindered the further development and application of N-sulfonylamidine derivatives. Objective: The study aims to find a stable N source to replace NaN3 or NH3 to synthesize N-sulfonylamidines from sulfonyl chlorides. Methods: Firstly, N-(2-pyridinylmethyl)benzenesulfonamides were smoothly synthesized via 2-pyridinemethanamine and sulfonyl chlorides. Then the reaction conditions of N-(2-pyridinylmethyl) benzenesulfonamides and N,N-dimethylformamide dimethyl acetal (DMF-DMA) were screened and optimized. The reaction was processed in glycol at 80 degrees C for 8 hours with the addition of 5 mol% Cu(OAc)(2)center dot H2O as a catalyst. Results: Taking advantage of pyridin-2-ylmethyl, a scope of N-Sulfonylformamidines were synthesized from those N-(2-pyridinylmethyl)benzenesulfonamides under copper-catalyzed C-N bond cleavage. Conclusion: This ready synthetic method will be more of a promising inspiration for bioactive compound synthesis and drug development than for an innovative approach to synthesizing N-sulfonylformamidines.

Abstract:Copper(II)-catalyzed synthesis of sulfones from sulfinate salts and aryl halides was investigated by means of a combination of experiment and DFT calculation. Experimental results demonstrated the wide applicability of the title approach. The reaction mechanisms are revealed by in-situ IR and theoretical study. It reveals remarkable ligand effect the bidentate amine plays in the reaction, that is, it initially activats the C-I bond of iodobenzene so as to enhance the whole catalytic process. Abstract:An efficient protocol for the synthesis of sulfonamides via the electrochemical oxidative amination of sodium sulfinates has been developed. The chemistry proceeds in a simple undivided cell employing a substoichiometric amount of NH4I that serves both as a redox catalyst and a supporting electrolyte; in this manner additional conducting salt is not required. A wide range of substrates, including aliphatic or aromatic secondary and primary amines, as well as aqueous ammonia, proved to be compatible with the protocol. Scale-up was possible, thereby demonstrating the practicality of the approach. The electrolytic process avoids the utilization of external oxidants or corrosive molecular iodine and therefore represents an environmentally benign means by which to achieve the transformation.

Abstract:NH-Sulfonimidamides are prepared by copper-catalyzed coupling of primary sulfinamides with secondary amines. Neither a ligand nor an additive is needed, and air is the terminal oxidant. The reactions occur at room temperature, show good functional group tolerance, and lead to products in good yields. A sulfanenitrile is proposed as an intermediate in this oxidative amination.

Abstract:Sulfilimines are valuable compounds in both organic synthesis and pharmaceuticals. In this study, we present a copper-catalyzed sulfur alkylation of sulfenamides with N-sulfonylhydrazones. In contrast to prior findings, hydrazones derived from aldehydes act as donor-type carbene precursors, effectively engaging in coupling with sulfenamides via a copper catalyst, demonstrating exclusive S selectivity. The utility of the protocol was highlighted in the rapid access to a wide range of sulfoximine derivatives.

Abstract:Herein, we reported an efficient and straightforward method to realize desaturated β-C(sp3)-H sulfonylation and phosphonylation of cyclic amines driven by electrochemistry using catalytic amounts of CP2Fe as the redox mediator. This protocol which had good functional group compatibility, provided the desired enaminyl sulfone and enaminyl phosphine oxide products with high chemo- and regio-selectivity under mild conditions. Several mechanistic studies have suggested that cyclic amines underwent multiple single-electron oxidation and deprotonation processes, followed by a capture step involving either a sulfonyl radical or a phosphonyl radical, ultimately leading to the desired products.

Abstract:This communication reports copper-catalyzed N-H olefination of sulfonamides for enaminone synthesis using saturated ketones as olefin sources. With TEMPO derivatives and O2 as oxidants, this method provided an efficient way to produce various enaminones in good yields. Mechanistic studies helped figure out the stable intermediates and develop novel methodologies for the difunctionalization of saturated ketones.

Abstract:<p>A practical method for the synthesis of <i>N</i>‐(2‐carbonylaryl) benzenesulfonamides via an iron‐catalyzed electrophilic amination of sodium sulfinates with anthranils is described. This redox‐neutral transformation has high atom efficiency and is achieved under simple and mild reaction conditions. A wide range of anthranils and sodium sulfinates were compatible in this transformation. Moreover, the synthetic potential of this methodology was further demonstrated by the synthesis of various useful N‐heterocycles and derivatives.</p>

Abstract:A mild and efficient protocol for sulfonylation of 8‐aminoquinolines, naphthylamides and anilides with sodium sulfinates by anodic oxidation at room temperature was developed. In the absence of any additional catalyst and oxidant, a series of sulfonylated products were achieved in good to excellent yields. This proposal features good water tolerance, excellent selectivity and broad functional group compatibility. An efficient protocol for sulfonylation of N‐arylamides/amine with sulfinate salts has been developed via anodic oxidation at room temperature in an undivided cell.

Abstract:The utility of sulfilimine is increasingly recognized in pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and other complex molecular structures. The synthesis of such compounds has been historically hindered by laborious procedures, harsh conditions, and limited substrate scope for wide applications. Here, we report a highly efficient Cu-catalyzed S-vinylation of sulfenamides with alkenyl iodonium salts to access α,β-unsaturated sulfilimines. The reaction proceeds under mild conditions, providing high yields of the desired products while demonstrating a broad substrate scope. Notably, the introduction of a 2,3-dimethylpropyl group as the S-substituent enables the efficient synthesis of novel S-divinylsulfilimines.

Abstract:N-Sulfenylimines are important molecules owing to their value in organic synthesis. Herein, we developed an electrochemical oxidative cross-coupling reaction between amines and thiols to synthesize N-sulfenylimines without a transition-metal catalyst and external oxidant. Various amines and thiols were compatible, generating the desired products in up to 86% yield.

Abstract:A biomass-based catalyst, CuxOy@CS-400, was employed as an excellent recyclable heterogeneous catalyst to realize the sulfonylation reaction of aniline derivatives with sodium sulfinates. Various substrates were compatible, giving the desired products moderate to good yields at room temperature. In addition, this heterogeneous copper catalyst was also easy to recover and was recyclable up to five times without considerably deteriorating in catalytic efficiency. Importantly, these sulfonylation products were readily converted to the corresponding 4-sulfonyl anilines via a hydrolysis step. The method offers a unique strategy for synthesizing arylsulfones and has the potential to create new possibilities for developing heterogeneous copper-catalyzed C-H functionalizations.
