Abstract:The first catalytic enantioselective 1,2-reduction of enones with 0.45 mol equiv potassium borohydride solution catalyzed by a chiral N,N'-dioxide-Sc(III) complex catalyst was accomplished under mild reaction conditions. A number of optically active allylic alcohols were obtained in good to excellent enantioselectivities (up to 95% ee) with nearly quantitative yields.

Abstract:An asymmetric epoxidation of electron‐deficient enynes with environmentally benign aqueous hydrogen peroxide as oxidant has been accomplished by developing a chiral N,N′‐dioxide‐Scandium(III) complex catalytic system. In the presence of 0.5–2 mol% catalyst, a variety of trisubstituted alkynyl oxiranes were obtained in high yields (up to 97%) with excellent ee values (up to 99%). Furthermore, control experiments provide a fundamental insight into the reaction mechanism.

Abstract:An efficient enantioselective alkylation of N‐unprotected 3‐substituted oxindoles was realized by using a chiral N,N′‐dioxide/scandium(III) complex as the catalyst. A wide range of 3,3‐dialkyl substituted oxindoles with quaternary stereocenters were obtained in high yields and ee values (up to 98% yield and 99% ee).

Abstract:A catalytic asymmetric dearomatization of 2-naphthols with azodicarboxylates has been accomplished by using a N,N'-dioxide-scandium(III) complex as a chiral catalyst. A number of optically active beta-naphthalenone compounds with a nitrogen-containing quaternary carbon stereocenter were obtained in up to 99% yield and up to 99% ee under mild reaction conditions. The reaction could be scaled up to a gram scale with the yield and ee maintained. Based on these experiments and on previous reports, a possible transition state was proposed.

Abstract:An efficient N,N'-dioxide-scandium(iii) complex catalytic system has been developed for the asymmetric dearomatization of β-naphthols through conjugate addition to alkynones. A variety of Z-predominated β-naphthalenone compounds were obtained in moderate to high yields with excellent enantioselectivities (up to 98% ee). Moreover, a possible transition state was proposed to explain the origin of the stereoselectivity.

Abstract:The asymmetric synthesis of γ-alkenyl butenolides was accomplished by conjugated addition of butenolides to alkynones. Both terminal alkynones and nonterminal alkynones were applicable to the N,N′-dioxide–scandium(III) catalytic system. The corresponding products were obtained in good to excellent yields (up to 99%) with high E/Z ratios and high enantioselectivities (up to 98% ee). The novel methods of building both γ-alkenyl butenolides and continuing epoxidation products facilitated constructing core structure of biologically active natural products and synthetic intermediates. Additionally, one-pot Michael addition/epoxidation performed well with our catalytic system.

Abstract:By using a D-fructose-derived chiral ketone or a D-mannitol-derived chiral amine as catalyst, the organocatalytic asymmetric epoxidation of cis-1-propenylphosphoric acid with 30% aqueous hydrogen peroxide in H(2)O-CH(3)CN mixture (similar to 80:20) afforded (1R, 2S)-(-)-(1,2)-epoxypropyl phosphoric acid (fosfomycin). Asymmetric epoxidation was carried out at 0 degrees C for 72 h to achieve 100% conversion with a maximum enantiomeric excess (e.e.) of 74%. (c) 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:The first example of a N,N'-dioxide-Sc(III) -catalyzed 1,6-addition of 3-substituted oxindoles to dienyl ketones has been developed. This procedure tolerates a relatively wide range of 3-substituted oxindoles under mild conditions, facilitating the preparation of various chiral oxindoles with quaternary stereocenters. In addition, the reliable catalyst was found to be effective in the asymmetric 1,6-addition of both δ-unsubstituted and δ-methyl-substituted dienyl ketones, achieving excellent regioselectivities and enantioselectivities (up to>99 % ee).

Abstract:Three (R,R)‐3,4‐diaminopyrrolidine‐based chiral N4 ligands and corresponding iron complexes were synthesized. The complexes were applied to the asymmetric epoxidation of various α,β‐unsaturated ketones with H2O2 as an oxidant and carboxylic acid as auxiliary. Good to excellent enantioselectivity (up to 97%) was achieved in the case of 2,2‐dimethylbutyric acid as an auxiliary.

Abstract:An enantioselective three-component reaction of diazoacetates, 2-oxo-3-ynoates, and nitrosoarenes has been developed by using a chiral N,N'-dioxide/Ni(OTf)2 complex. This catalytic manifold allows rapid access to a series of multifunctional chiral epoxides containing an imino ketone substituent in moderate to good yields (up to 82%) and excellent diastereo- and enantioselectivities (up to >95/5 dr and 99% ee) with high levels of Z/E ratios (up to >95/5 Z/E) under mild reaction conditions.
