Abstract:A novel and direct metal-free nitro-carbocyclization of activated alkenes leading to valuable nitro-containing oxindoles via cascade C-N and C-C bond formation has been developed. Abstract:A general synthesis of 4-hydroxylcarbazoles by domino vinylogous conjugate addition/cyclization/elimination/aromatization of easily prepared 3-nitroindoles with alkylidene azlactones under mild and transition-metal-free conditions has been developed. This method was also applicable to other nitrosubstituted benzofused heterocycles such as 3-nitrobenzothiophene, 2-nitrobenzothiophene, and 2-nitrobenzofuran. The valuable tetracyclic carbazole derivatives, such as 6H-oxazolo[4,5-c]carbazole and 3,6-dihydro-2H-oxazolo[4,5-c]carbazol-2-one, were readily prepared from the product, demonstrating synthetic utility of this method.

Abstract:The fuge-es: A metal-free coupling reaction for the synthesis of oxindoles by nucleophilic vinylic substitution (SNV) of nitroolefins is described. By using the nitro group as a nucleofuge, the reaction proceeds through a Michael addition/1,2-cis-elimination process. Alcohols, phenols, amines, thiols, and even a β-ketoester worked as nucleophiles to form CO, CN, CS, and CC bonds and afford the corresponding oxindoles. Abstract:A sulfur-assisted and 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0] undec-7-ene (DBU)-catalyzed cyclization of 2-alkynylanilines for the metal-free synthesis of indole derivatives is reported. As a result of the metal- free process, the ready availability of the starting materials and the simple and convenient operation, the type of reaction presented here has potential utility in organic synthesis. A 10-gram scale preparation may demonstrate the possibility of its application in the environmentally friendly synthesis of indole derivatives.

Abstract:A transition-metal-free oxidative CN coupling method has been developed for the synthesis of 1H-azaindazoles and 1H-indazoles from easily accessible hydrazones. The procedure uses TEMPO, a basic additive, and dioxygen gas as the terminal oxidant. This reaction demonstrates better reactivity, functional group tolerance, and broader scope than comparable metal catalyzed reactions.

Abstract:C-N bond formation is crucial for the preparation of synthetic organic nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds. This work provides a facile and highly efficient strategy (ca. similar to 92 %) for the synthesis of quinazoline compounds, which involves tandem C-H/N-H bond functionalization using metal-free conditions without the need for an external oxidant. Meanwhile, the reaction system exhibits good functional group tolerance and a wide substrate scope. Furthermore, our corresponding isotope tracking experiments have shown that dimethyl sulfoxide acts as a carbon source. Finally, this work affords a new strategy toward the further design and synthesis of heteroaromatic rings.
