Abstract:Fuzzy quantifiers have important applications in a great variety of fields such as database querying, data mining and knowledge discovering, inductive learning and so on. Recently, M.S.Ying introduces a novel fuzzy framework for linguistic quantifiers which are modeled by Sugeno integrals. Essentially, the conjunction and disjunction in Ying's framework are interpreted as the "min" and "max" operations, which restricts the application of this theory in some sense. In this paper, we extended Ying's framework by interpreting the conjunction and disjunction as t-norm and t-conorm respectively. And some elegant logical results for our framework have been obtained.

Abstract:In classical linguistic modelling for imprecise concepts and uncertain reasoning, a basic idea is to use fuzzy sets to describe the semantics of imprecise concepts, the theoretic foundation of this modelling is fuzzy logic. But in some practical applications, the determination of membership functions associated with vague concepts is difficult or impossible. In this paper, we present a new linguistic modelling technique based on the semantic similarity relation among linguistic labels. In this new linguistic model, a fuzzy relation is utilized to represent the semantic relation among linguistic labels. The elements in the fuzzy relation are interpreted as the degrees of similarities or the degrees of semantic overlapping between the corresponding linguistic labels. We develop an inference method for computing the degree of similarity between any two linguistic expressions which are the logic formulas generated by applying the logic connectives to the linguistic labels. This inference method utilizes the consonant mass assignment functions induced from the fuzzy similarity relation on linguistic labels. We show that the linguistic model presented in this paper satisfies some perfect properties, e.g. the excluded middle law, law of non-contradiction. This new linguistic modelling is illustrated finally in a linguistic decision-making example.
The FA Quantifier Fuzzification Mechanism: analysis of convergence and efficient implementations

Abstract:The fuzzy quantification model FA has been identified as one of the best behaved quantification models in several revisions of the field of fuzzy quantification. This model is, to our knowledge, the unique one fulfilling the strict Determiner Fuzzification Scheme axiomatic framework that does not induce the standard min and max operators. The main contribution of this paper is the proof of a convergence result that links this quantification model with the Zadeh's model when the size of the input sets tends to infinite. The convergence proof is, in any case, more general than the convergence to the Zadeh's model, being applicable to any quantitative quantifier. In addition, recent revisions papers have presented some doubts about the existence of suitable computational implementations to evaluate the FA model in practical applications. In order to prove that this model is not only a theoretical approach, we show exact algorithmic solutions for the most common linguistic quantifiers as well as an approximate implementation by means of Monte Carlo. Additionally, we will also give a general overview of the main properties fulfilled by the FA model, as a single compendium integrating the whole set of properties fulfilled by it has not been previously published.

Abstract:In this paper, we apply a class of fuzzy modifiers based on fuzzy relations in description logics (DLs) to represent complex imprecise and incomplete knowledge. We investigate how to introduce the fuzzy modifiers into a fuzzy description logic ALC. The fuzzy description logic ALC with the fuzzy modifiers, called FALCM in the paper, has a more expressive capacity to represent imprecise and incomplete knowledge. At last, we give the reasoning algorithms for the satisfiability of FALCM concepts.

Abstract:Fuzzy quantification is a subtopic of fuzzy logic which deals with the modelling of the quantified expressions we can find in natural language. Fuzzy quantifiers have been successfully applied in several fields like fuzzy, control, fuzzy databases, information retrieval, natural language generation, etc. Their ability to model and evaluate linguistic expressions in a mathematical way, makes fuzzy quantifiers very powerful for data analytics and data mining applications. In this paper we will give a general overview of the main applications of fuzzy quantifiers in this field as well as some ideas to use them in new application contexts.

Abstract:Since quantifiers have the ability of summarizing the properties of a class of objects without enumerating them, linguistic quantification is a very important topic in the field of high level knowledge representation and reasoning. This paper introduces a new framework for modeling quantifiers in natural languages in which each linguistic quantifier is represented by a family of fuzzy measures, and the truth value of a quantified proposition is evaluated by using Sugeno's integral. This framework allows us to have some elegant logical properties of linguistic quantifiers. We compare carefully our new model of quantification and other approaches to linguistic quantifiers. A set of criteria for linguistic quantification was proposed in the previous literature. The relationship between these criteria and the results obtained in the present paper is clarified. Some simple applications of the Sugeno's integral semantics of quantifiers are presented.

Abstract:Evaluating argument strength in quantitative argumentation systems has received increasing attention in the field of abstract argumentation. The concept of acceptability degree is widely adopted in gradual semantics, however, it may not be sufficient in many practical applications. In this paper, we provide a novel quantitative method called fuzzy labeling for fuzzy argumentation systems, in which a triple of acceptability, rejectability, and undecidability degrees is used to evaluate argument strength. Such a setting sheds new light on defining argument strength and provides a deeper understanding of the status of arguments. More specifically, we investigate the postulates of fuzzy labeling, which present the rationality requirements for semantics concerning the acceptability, rejectability, and undecidability degrees. We then propose a class of fuzzy labeling semantics conforming to the above postulates and investigate the relations between fuzzy labeling semantics and existing work in the literature.

Abstract:Most fuzzy systems including fuzzy decision support and fuzzy control systems provide out-puts in the form of fuzzy sets that represent the inferred conclusions. Linguistic interpretation of such outputs often involves the use of linguistic approximation that assigns a linguistic label to a fuzzy set based on the predefined primary terms, linguistic modifiers and linguistic connectives. More generally, linguistic approximation can be formalized in the terms of the re-translation rules that correspond to the translation rules in ex-plicitation (e.g. simple, modifier, composite, quantification and qualification rules) in com-puting with words [Zadeh 1996]. However most existing methods of linguistic approximation use the simple, modifier and composite re-translation rules only. Although these methods can provide a sufficient approximation of simple fuzzy sets the approximation of more complex ones that are typical in many practical applications of fuzzy systems may be less satisfactory. Therefore the question arises why not use in linguistic ap-proximation also other re-translation rules corre-sponding to the translation rules in explicitation to advantage. In particular linguistic quantifica-tion may be desirable in situations where the conclusions interpreted as quantified linguistic propositions can be more informative and natu-ral. This paper presents some aspects of linguis-tic approximation in the context of the re-translation rules and proposes an approach to linguistic approximation with the use of quantifi-cation rules, i.e. quantified linguistic approxima-tion. Two methods of the quantified linguistic approximation are considered with the use of lin-guistic quantifiers based on the concepts of the non-fuzzy and fuzzy cardinalities of fuzzy sets. A number of examples are provided to illustrate the proposed approach.

Abstract:In this paper, the formulation of Quantum Mechanics in terms of fuzzy logic and fuzzy sets is explored. A result by Pykacz, that establishes a correspondence between (quantum) logics (lattices with certain properties) and certain families of fuzzy sets, is applied to the Birkhoff-von Neumann logic, the lattice of projectors of a Hilbert space. Three cases are considered: the qubit, two qubits entangled and a qutrit `nested' inside the two entangled qubits. The membership functions of the fuzzy sets are explicitly computed and all the connectives of the fuzzy sets are interpreted as operations with these particular membership functions. In this way, a complete picture of the standard quantum logic in terms of fuzzy sets is obtained for the systems considered.

Abstract:In this paper, we present a theoretical framework of fuzzy reasoning model under quotient space structure. It consists of (1) introducing quotient space structure into fuzzy sets, i.e., constructing fuzzy set representations of different grain-size spaces and their relationships; (2) introducing the concept of fuzzy sets into quotient space theory, i.e., introducing fuzzy equivalence relation and discussing its corresponding reasoning in different grain-size spaces; and (3) discussing the relationship and transformation among different granular computing methodologies. The framework proposed is aimed to combine two powerful abilities in order to enhance the efficiency of fuzzy reasoning: one is the ability of computing with words based on fuzzy set methodology, the other is the ability of hierarchical problem solving based on quotient space approach.

Abstract:One of the weaknesses of classical (fuzzy) rough sets is their sensitivity to noise, which is particularly undesirable for machine learning applications. One approach to solve this issue is by making use of fuzzy quantifiers, as done by the vaguely quantified fuzzy rough set (VQFRS) model. While this idea is intuitive, the VQFRS model suffers from both theoretical flaws as well as from suboptimal performance in applications. In this paper, we improve on VQFRS by introducing fuzzy quantifier-based fuzzy rough sets (FQFRS), an intuitive generalization of fuzzy rough sets that makes use of general unary and binary quantification models. We show how several existing models fit in this generalization as well as how it inspires novel ones. Several binary quantification models are proposed to be used with FQFRS. We conduct a theoretical study of their properties, and investigate their potential by applying them to classification problems. In particular, we highlight Yager's Weighted Implication-based (YWI) binary quantification model, which induces a fuzzy rough set model that is both a significant improvement on VQFRS, as well as a worthy competitor to the popular ordered weighted averaging based fuzzy rough set (OWAFRS) model.

Abstract:We present a unified logical framework for representing and reasoning about both quantitative and qualitative preferences in fuzzy answer set programming, called fuzzy answer set optimization programs. The proposed framework is vital to allow defining quantitative preferences over the possible outcomes of qualitative preferences. We show the application of fuzzy answer set optimization programs to the course scheduling with fuzzy preferences problem. To the best of our knowledge, this development is the first to consider a logical framework for reasoning about quantitative preferences, in general, and reasoning about both quantitative and qualitative preferences in particular.

Abstract:We explore a kind of first-order predicate logic with intended semantics in the reals. Compared to other approaches in the literature, we work predominantly in the multiplicative reals $[0,\infty]$, showing they support three generations of connectives, that we call non-linear, linear additive, and linear multiplicative. Means and harmonic means emerge as natural candidates for bounded existential and universal quantifiers, and in fact we see they behave as expected in relation to the other logical connectives. We explain this fact through the well-known fact that min/max and arithmetic mean/harmonic mean sit at opposite ends of a spectrum, that of p-means. We give syntax and semantics for this quantitative predicate logic, and as example applications, we show how softmax is the quantitative semantics of argmax, and Rényi entropy/Hill numbers are additive/multiplicative semantics of the same formula. Indeed, the additive reals also fit into the story by exploiting the Napierian duality $-\log \dashv 1/\exp$, which highlights a formal distinction between 'additive' and 'multiplicative' quantities. Finally, we describe two attempts at a categorical semantics via enriched hyperdoctrines. We discuss why hyperdoctrines are in fact probably inadequate for this kind of logic.

Abstract:1 Quantiiers as Modal Operators 1.1 Motivations The semantics for quantiiers described in this paper can be viewed both as a new semantics for generalized quantiiers and as a new look at standard rst-order quantiication, bringing the latter closer to modal logic. The standard semantics for generalized quantiiers interprets a monadic generalized quantiier Q as a set of subsets of a domain. For example, the quantiier "there are precisely two" is interpreted by the set of all subsets of the domain which contain precisely two elements. A formula Qx' is true in a model if the set of elements satisfying ' belongs to the interpretation of the quantiier; in our example, if there are precisely two elements satisfying '. The existential quantiier can be treated as a generalized quantiier, too: it is interpreted as the set of all non-empty subsets of the domain. The universal quantiier is interpreted by the singleton set containing the whole domain. The quantiiers listed so far are rst-order deenable in the following sense: they can be deened using ordinary quantiiers and equality. Many interesting generalized quanti-ers are not rst-order deenable. The present study is motivated by the work of Michiel van Lambalgen (1991) on Gentzen-style proof theory for the quantiiers "for many" (its dual is interpreted as a non-principal lter), "for uncountably many" and "for almost all" (the latter contains all subsets of the domain which have Lebesgue measure 1). All those quantiiers are not rst-order deenable. They have Hilbert-style axiomatizations, but until lately no one believed that they can have a reasonable Gentzen-style proof theory. In order to devise such a proof theory, van Lambalgen used a translation of generalized quan-tiier formulas into a rst-order language enriched with a predicate R of indeenite arity. Observe that this translation is reminiscent of the standard translation of modal formulas into rst-order logic, with the sequence of free variables playing the role of the "actual world" and the quantiier ranging over the variables "accessible" from the given sequence. The idea behind such a translation is as follows. Abstract:The concept of fuzzy weakly -stable completely distributive lattices is introduced.It is proved that the fam-ily of all down sets of a fuzzy ordered semigroup with a appropriate operation is a fuzzy weakly -stable completely distributive lattice.A necessary and sufficient condition for a fuzzy completely distributive lattice to be a fuzzy weakly -stable completely distributive lattice is given.Finally,projective objects in the category of fuzzy quantales are stud-ied.It is also proved that the E-projective objects in the category of fuzzy quantales are exactly the fuzzy weakly -sta-ble completely distributive lattices.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce the notion of K-flat projective fuzzy quantales, and give an elementary characterization in terms of a fuzzy binary relation on the fuzzy quantale. Moreover, we prove that K-flat projective fuzzy quantales are precisely the coalgebras for a certain comonad on the category of fuzzy quantales. Finally, we present two special cases of K as examples.

Abstract:The concept of a fuzzy Quantale is introduced.It is shown that the category of fuzzy Quantales is isomorphic to the category of L-algebras.This result presents that L-algebras can also be treated as fuzzifications of Quantales from the viewpoint of category theory.The concrete structure of limit in the category of fuzzy Quantales is given,and the completeness of the category of fuzzy Quantales is obtained.The structure of inverse limit of an inverse system in the category of fuzzy Quantales is described.Then a mapping between two inverse systems is defined,and the concept of a limit mapping between the inverse limits of two inverse systems is induced.

Abstract:We present a generalisation of the theory of quantitative algebras of Mardare, Panangaden and Plotkin where (i) the carriers of quantitative algebras are not restricted to be metric spaces and can be arbitrary fuzzy relations or generalised metric spaces, and (ii) the interpretations of the algebraic operations are not required to be nonexpansive. Our main results include: a novel sound and complete proof system, the proof that free quantitative algebras always exist, the proof of strict monadicity of the induced Free-Forgetful adjunction, the result that all monads (on fuzzy relations) that lift finitary monads (on sets) admit a quantitative equational presentation.
