Abstract:The new thioindate–thioantimonate [Co(dien)2]2In2Sb4S11 (1, dien = diethylenetriamine) was prepared under solvothermal conditions and structurally characterized. 1 consists of 1-D inorganic [In2Sb4S114−]n chains constructed by bow-like trimeric [Sb3S7] units and heterometallic pseudosemicube [In2SbS4] clusters, and [Co(dien)2]2+ cations as counterions. The intermolecular H-bond interactions between 1-D inorganic [In2Sb4S114−]n anion and [Co(dien)2]2+ cation result in a 3-D supramolecular network.

Abstract:Three new thioindate-thioantimonates [Ni(en)(3)][In2Sb2S7] (1, en = ethylenediamine), [(Ni(en)(3))](3)(en)[In6Sb6S21] (2), and [Co(tren)InSbS4] (3, tren = tris(2-aminoethyl)amine) have been solvothermally synthesized and structurally characterized. Compound 1 contains dimeric [In2S7] units built of two tetrahedral [InS4] units sharing one corner and [SbS3] trigonal-pyramids, which are interconnected to form a puckered [In2Sb2S7](n)(2n-) layer with 4-, 5- and 6-heterorings. [Ni(en)(3)](2+) complex cations as structure-directing and charge-balancing agents are located at the interlayer spaces. Compound 2 consists of a 3-D polymeric [In6Sb6S21](n)(6n-) anion, [Ni(en)(3)](2+) cations, free en molecule and a water molecule. The 3-D polymeric [In6Sb6S21](n)(6n-) anion is composed of [In2Sb2S8](n)(4n-) chains and heterometallic [In2Sb2S9] clusters, which are interconnected to give 3-D frameworks with 10-ring helical channels, 14- and 20-ring channels. Compound 3 contains dimeric [In2S6] units constructed by two tetrahedral [InS4] sharing a common edge and [SbS3] trigonal-pyramids, which link to form a new [InSbS4](n)(2n-) layer with large 10-heterorings. Each [Co(tren)](2+) group is appended within the cavity of the 10-heteroring via one Co-S-Sb bond. 3 represents the first example of the incorporation of transition metal ions into a In-S-Sb framework. Density functional theory calculation for 3 also has been performed, and the optical properties of 1-3 have been characterized by UV-vis spectra.

Abstract:We report the characterization of the compound [K([2.2.2]crypt)](4)[In8Sb13], which proves to contain a 1:1 mixture of [Sb@In8Sb12](3-) and [Sb@In8Sb12](5-). The tri-anion displays perfect T-h symmetry, the first completely inorganic molecule to do so, and contains eight equivalent In3+ centers in a cube. The gas-phase potential energy surface of the penta-anion has eight equivalent minima where the extra pair of electrons is localized on one In+ center, and these minima are linked by low-lying transition states where the electron pair is delocalized over two adjacent centers. The best fit to the electron density is obtained from a model where the structure of the 5- cluster lies close to the gas-phase transition state.

Abstract:Two new thioantimonates [Co(dien)2]4[CoSb6S14] (1) and [Co(dien)2]2[Sb4S9] (2, dien=diethylenediamine) were solvothermally synthesized by the reactions of Co, Sb and S in dien at 160°C. 1 is composed of heterometallic [CoSb6S14]8− anion built up from the connection of one [CoS4] tetrahedron and two [SbIII3S7] units sharing edges, while 2 contains 1-D mixed-valent thioantimonate anion [Sb4S94−]n constructed by the connection of the [SbIII3S7] units and the SbVS4 tetrahedra sharing corners. The optical properties of 1 and 2 have been investigated by UV–Vis spectra.

Abstract:We synthesized two one-dimensional compounds K2MSbS3(SH) (M = Zn, Cd) at 473 K, using thiourea as reactive flux. The compounds crystallize in the triclinic space group P1̅. Their structures feature one-dimensional ∞1[M2Sb2S6(SH2)]4- double chains along the crystallographic a axis. The ∞1[M2Sb2S6(SH2)]4- double chains are composed of [M2Sb2S8(SH)2]8- eight-membered rings. Similar band gaps of the two compounds, Eg = 2.75 eV for K2ZnSbS3(SH) and Eg = 2.71 eV for K2CdSbS3(SH), were obtained from optical absorption measurements, which are consistent with theoretical calculations. The analysis of density of states indicates that the valence band maximum and conduction band minimum consist mainly of S-3p orbitals and Sb-5p orbitals, respectively.

Abstract:Three semiconducting ternary sulfides have been synthesized from the mixture of elements with about 20% excess of sulfur (to establish oxidant rich conditions) 17 solid-state reactions at high temperature. Ba12In4S19 (Ba2+)(12)(In3+)(4)(S2-)(17)(S-2)(2-), 1, crystallizes in the trigonal space group R (3) over bar with a = 9.6182(5) angstrom, b = 9.6182(5) angstrom, c = 75.393(7) angstrom, and Z = 6, with a unique long period-stacking structure of a combination of monometallic InS4 tetrahedra, linear dimeric In2S7 tetrahedra, disulfide S-2(2-) anions, and isolated sulfide S2- anions that is further enveloped by Ba2+ cations. Ba4In2S8 (Ba2+)(4)(In3+)(2)(S2-)(6)(S-2)(2-), 2, crystallizes in the triclinic space group P (1) over bar with a = 6.236(2) angstrom, b = 10.014(4) angstrom, c = 13.033(5) angstrom, alpha = 104.236(6)degrees, beta = 90.412(4)degrees, gamma = 91.052(6)degrees, and Z = 2. Ba4Ga2S8 (Ba2+)(4)(Ga3+)(2)(S2-)(6)(S-2)(2-), 3, crystallizes in the monoclinic P2(1)/c with a = 12.739(5) angstrom, b = 6.201(2) angstrom, c = 19.830(8) angstrom, beta = 104.254(6)degrees and Z = 4. Compounds 2 and 3 represent the first one-dimensional (1D) chain structure in ternary Ba/M/S (M = In, Ga) systems. The optical band gaps of 1 and 3 are measured to be around 2.55 eV, which agrees with their yellow color and the calculation results. The CASTEP calculations also reveal that the disulfide S-2(2-) anions in 1-3 contribute mainly to the bottom of the conduction bands and the top of valence bands, and thus determine the band gaps.

Abstract:Metal chalcogenide supertetrahedral Tn clusters are of current interest for their unique compositions and structures, which rely highly on the structure-directing agents. Herein, we report four novel Tn cluster-based indium and gallium sulfides, namely, [NH(CH3)3]4In4S10H4 (1), (NH3)4Ga4S6 (2), [NH3CH2CH3]5(NH2CH2CH3)2Ga11S19 (3), and [NH3CH2CH2OH]6Ga10S18·2NH2CH2CH2OH (4). All four compounds were solvothermally synthesized in mixed amine–ethanol solutions or deep eutectic solvent (DES), where ammonia/amine molecules play significant structure-directing roles in the speciation and crystal growth. (1) Being protonated, the trimethylamine and ethanolamine molecules surround the T2-[In4S10H4]4– clusters (for 1) and [Ga10S18]n6n– open framework (for 4), respectively, compensating for the negative charge of the inorganic moieties. (2) With the lone pair of electrons, the ammonia molecules in 2 coordinate directly to corner Ga3+ ions of the {Ga4S6} cage to give a neutral T2-(NH3)4Ga4S6 cluster. (3) For compound 3, part of the ethylamine molecules act as terminating ligands for the T1 and T3 units in the [Ga11S19(NH2CH2CH3)2]n5n– layer, while the rest act as interlamellar countercations upon protonation. M. Sun et al. in ihrer Zuschrift auf S. 8455 ff. berichten. Das Trianion zeigt perfekte Th-Symmetrie und enthält acht äquivalente In3+-Zentren auf den Ecken eines Würfels, während die Gegenwart von zwei zusätzlichen Elektronen im Pentaanion einen Symmetriebruch verursacht, dessen Verzerrung die Struktur deutlich von der Th-Symmetrie entfernt.

Abstract:Comprehensive Summary Binary polyantimony clusters, namely [Cu 2 Sb 14 ] 4– and [Ag 2 Sb 14 ] 4– , containing coinage metals, were successfully synthesized and characterized, in which two homoatomic Sb 7 3– subunits are bridged by two coinage metals in η 4 : η 1 and η 1 : η 1 coordination modes, respectively. In [Cu 2 Sb 14 ] 4– , two bridging Cu ions and two Sb atoms form a planar rhombic unit, which was revealed to have antiaromatic properties by theoretical calculations. Further electron localized function confirmed the presence of delocalized bonds in the rhombic unit and the metallophilic interaction between two formal M + ions. Dimers and 2D Networks of Adamantane-Related Ternary Organosilicon Coinage Metal Sulfide Clusters

Abstract:Adamantane-type organotin sulfide clusters were recently shown to react with coinage metal phosphine complexes under replacement of an organic substituent by a metal-phosphine unit. An extension of such studies involving the silicon-based congener [(PhSi)4S6] (A) revealed that the cluster core will be partly disassembled and a {PhSi} moiety is replaced by a coinage metal phosphine complex to form [(Et3PAg)3(PhSi)3S6] (B) and [Na2(thf)2.33][(Me3PCu)(PhSi)3S6] (C). Herein, we present an extension of this work upon variation of the reactants and reaction conditions. Besides the isolation of crystalline precursor complexes [CuCl(PMe2Ph)3] (1) and [AgCl(PMe2Ph)2]2 (2), the study addresses reactions of A with AgCl and a phosphine ligand in CH2Cl2, upon which A is completely disassembled to form [(Ph3P)3Ag(μ-S)SiCl2Ph] (3). In another case a CH2 group, most likely stemming from CH2Cl2, was attached to the ligand, thus generating [{PhCl(S)SiSCH2P(Ph2)CH2CH2}2] (4). Upon using CuCl and 1,4-bis(diphenylphosphino)butane (dppb) we isolated the phosphine-bridged analog of B, [{(dppbCu2)CuP(Ph2)(CH2CH2)(PhSi)3S6}2] (5). In order to receive the yet elusive silver homolog of C, we used PMe2Ph as a bulkier ligand. This way we generated a 2D coordination polymer of the desired composition, [Na2(thf)1.5][(Me2PhPAg)(PhSi)3S6] (6). UV-visible spectra of 6 indicated a bandgap of 3.89 eV, thus blue-shifted in regards to B and C.

Abstract:During attempts to prepare cubane-like clusters from the precursor (Bu4N)2[Sn3S4(edt)(3)] (edt 1,2-ethanedithiolate), two new tetranuclear tin(IV) oxysulfide clusters, (Bu4N)(2) [Sn-4(mu(4)-O) S-5(edt)(2)Cl-2] (1) and (Bu4N)(2)[Sn-4(mu(4)-O)S-5(edt)(2)Br-2] ( 2) were unexpectedly obtained by reaction of (Bu4N)(2)[Sn3S4(edt)(3)] with SnX2 (X=Cl, Br). X-ray crystal structure analyses show that the two compounds possess an isostructural anionic cluster with a highly distorted tetrahedral metal skeleton. The two compounds have been characterized spectroscopically.
