Abstract:By using CuI as the catalyst and l-Proline as the ligand, the Ullmann-type coupling reactions of aryl/heteroaryl bromides and imidazoles in [Bmim]BF4 at 105–115°C gave the corresponding N-arylimidazoles/N-heteroarylimidazoles in good yields. The system offers a convenient, recyclable, and environmentally benign method for these coupling reactions.

Abstract:CuI-nanoparticles-catalyzed cyanation of aryl bromides under mild conditions has been developed with K4[Fe(CN)6]as the cyanation reagent using water as the solvent in the presence of KI and N,N'-dimethylethyl-enediamine.This method was applicable to a wide range of substrates and more economical and environmentally friendly.

Abstract:An easily accessible, anion-functionalized ionic liquid, 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium (S)-2-amino-3-methylbutyric acid salt, [emim] [Val], has been demonstrated to be an efficient additive for the CuI-catalyzed coupling reaction of sulfinic acid salts with aryl iodides, aryl bromides and vinyl bromides, leading to the formation of sulfones in good yields.

Abstract:Employing 1,1′-binaphthyl-2,2′-diamine(BINAM) dihydrochloride as an efficient and commercially available ligand, relatively mild and highly efficient copper-catalyzed coupling reactions of imidazole with aryl and heteroaryl halides have been developed. Various N-arylimidazoles could be synthesized in moderate to excellent yields.

Abstract:We herein present a nickel-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction of aryl halides and nitriles with imidazolium salts. A series of 2-arylated imidazoles could be obtained in moderate to good yields through inert C-N bond cleavage. The imidazolium salt in this reaction acts as both a coupling partner and N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligand precursor. Mechanistic studies reveal that consecutive steps of migratory insertion of the NHC into the aryl C-Ni bond and beta-C elimination might be involved in the proposed reaction mechanism.
