Abstract:[reaction: see text] A mixture of cyclopropylideneacetic acids (or esters) and CuBr(2) (or CuI/I(2)) in aqueous acetonitrile afforded 4-substituted 2(5H)-furanones or 3,4-substituted 5,6-dihydro-2H-pyran-2-ones in moderate to good yields. The selectivity of the reaction greatly depended on the reaction temperature.

Abstract:The copper-catalyzed cyclization of activated alkenes with cyclobutanone O-acyl oximes under redox-neutral conditions has been reported. This facile protocol provided an efficient approach to a variety of cyanoalkylated oxindoles and dihydroquinolin-2(1H)-ones with a broad substrate scope and excellent functional group tolerance. In this reaction, sequential C-C bond cleavage, radical addition, and cyclization processes were involved, wherein multiple bonds were constructed in a one-pot reaction. Mechanistic studies suggest that the reaction probably proceeded via a radical pathway.

Abstract:A copper‐catalysed (diacetoxyiodo)benzene‐promoted aerobic esterification reaction of acetoacetamides was developed for the synthesis of oxamates, which are useful precursors in synthetic organic chemistry. This practical and mild synthetic approach proceeded at 25 °C under open‐air conditions and afforded methyl 2‐oxo‐2‐(phenylamino)acetates in good to excellent yields combined with C−C σ‐bond cleavage and formal oxidative C−H bond functionalization. A mechanism is proposed.

Abstract:Cyclopropane-fused ring scaffold represents one of the most appealing structural motifs in organic chemistry due to their wide presence in bioactive molecules and versatility in organic synthesis. These skeletons are typically prepared from olefinic diazo compounds via transition-metal catalysed intramolecular carbenoid insertion, which suffers from prefunctionalization of starting materials and limited substrate scope. Herein, we disclosed a practical copper-mediated direct intramolecular cyclopropanation of distal olefinic acetate to synthesize cyclopropane-fused γ-lactones and lactams. This cascade reaction is postulated to proceed through a hydrogen atom transfer event induced radical cyclization and copper-mediated cyclopropanation sequence. The protocol features high atom- and step- economy, excellent diastereoselectivity, broad tolerance of functional groups, and operational simplicity.

Abstract:An efficient and practical method for the synthesis of medicinally important acridines from readily available o-aminoaryl ketones and arylboronic acids was developed using copper(II)-mediated relay reactions that involve intermolecular Chan-Lam cross-coupling and subsequent intramolecular Friedel-Crafts-type reactions. A sole promoter, i.e., Cu(OTf)2, was used; therefore, strongly acidic and basic conditions, nonreadily available or expensive substrates, additives, and noble-metal catalysts were not needed.

Abstract:The reaction of o-aminoacetophenones and arylboronic acids catalyzed by copper(II) salts in the presence of pyridine under an O2 atmosphere provides a general and efficient one-pot preparation of biologically interesting acridones. This relay reaction comprises an intermolecular Suzuki cross-coupling, intramolecular oxidative C(sp3)-H amination, and C(sp2)-H activation with simultaneous rearrangement of the generated isatin intermediates. This strategy tolerates both electron-donating and -withdrawing functionalities to afford various acridones in good to excellent yields.

Abstract:A new synthetic method for alpha-alkynyl-alpha,beta-unsaturated esters is presented herein. The method is based on a copper(I)-catalyzed three-component reaction of a terminal alkyne, diazoesters and aldehydes. The reaction is featured by mild conditions, high yields and excellent stereoselectivity. Cu(I) car-bene migratory insertion is proposed as the key step in the transformation.

Abstract:Transition metal-catalyzed formal one-carbon insertion into carbonyl compounds is an efficient method for the preparation of complex molecules. Herein, we report a copper-catalyzed intramolecular formal one-carbon insertion into esters through cascade diyne cyclization/[1,2]-acyl shift pathway, enabling the atom-economical synthesis of various chromeno[3,4-c]pyrroles bearing quaternary carbon stereocenters under mild reaction conditions. Moreover, moderate enantioselectivities are obtained in the catalytic asymmetric formal one-carbon insertion. The reaction mechanism is illustrated by computational studies.

Abstract:In this article, the structurally well-defined dinuclear complex copper(I) acetate was studied in detail and was developed as a highly practical and efficient catalyst for the copper(I)-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition. The "bare" phenylethynylcopper(I) (i.e., with no exogeneous ligands) was isolated as an intermediate, which can be converted into an active catalytic species by treatment with acetic acid (in situ produced in the reaction) to efficiently catalyze the azide-alkyne cycloaddition under mild conditions.

Abstract:Direct C-H bond functionalization is an efficient method for modifying organic molecules. However, achieving high enantioselectivity and regioselectivity in asymmetric C-H functionalization, particularly of C(sp3)-H bonds, remains challenging. This study introduces an enantioselective propargylic C(sp3)-H acyloxylation using photoexcited copper catalysis. The reaction demonstrated tolerance for various alkynes and peroxides, producing chiral propargyl esters in high yields and enantiomeric excess. Furthermore, the method was successfully extended to a diverse array of carboxylic acids in the presence of di-tert-butyl peroxide (DTBP), significantly broadening its applicability.

Abstract:Efficient copper-catalyzed aerobic oxidative C-H and C-C functionalization of 1-[2-(arylamino)aryl]ethanones leading to acridones has been developed. The procedure involves cleavage of aromatic C-H and acetyl C-C bonds with intramolecular formation of a diarylketone bond. The protocol uses inexpensive Cu(O2CCF3)2 as catalyst, pyridine as additive, and economical and environmentally friendly oxygen as the oxidant, and the corresponding acridones with various functional groups were obtained in moderate to good yields.

Abstract:Synthetic methods for 3-azabicyclo[3.1.0] hex-2-enes and 4-carbonylpyrroles have been developed that use copper-mediated/catalyzed reactions of N-allyl/propargyl enamine carboxylates under an O-2 atmosphere and involve intramolecular cyclopropanation and carbooxygenation, respectively. These methodologies take advantage of orthogonal modes of chemical reactivity of readily available N-allyl/propargyl enamine carboxylates; the complementary pathways can be accessed by slight modification of the reaction conditions.
