Abstract:WITHDRAWN AO1752 WEIGHT LOSS IMPROVED RESPIRATORY FUNCTION AND RESPIRATORY SYSTEM IMPEDANCE IN OBESE SUBJECTS ETSUHIRO NIKKUNI, YU IGARASHI, TOMOYUKI MURAKAMI, TOKIWA TAMAI, SHINYA OHKOUCHI, MASAO TABATA, TOSHIYA IROKAWA, HIROMASA OGAWA, HAJIME KUROSAWA Department of Occupational Health, Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine, Sendai, Japan Obesity is known to have decreased lung volume and increased respiratory system resistance (Rrs). This study aimed to examine the change of parameters of forced oscillation technique (FOT) and spirometry including maximal voluntary ventilation (MVV) following our weight loss intervention. Seventeen obese patients (male: 7, Age: 34.5 11.1y) were studied. Programs for weight loss interventions include the implementation of various exercises and a diet for 4 weeks. Rrs at 5Hz (R5) and other FOT parameters were assessed using a commercialized apparatus (MostGraph-01). Fat mass (% FM) and fat free mass (%FFM) were measured using bioelectrical impedance analysis. The intervention for weight loss resulted in significant reduction of body weight (BW) and %FM from 118.3 30.0 to 112.5 27.8kg and 41.2 7.2 to 40.3 7.5% (P<0.01), respectively. %FFM significantly increased from 58.8 7.2 to 59.7 7.5% (P<0.01). FVC and MVV significantly changed from 3.5 1.0 to 3.7 1.0 L, and 99.5 33.9 to 107.3 38.2 L/min (P<0.01), respectively. R5 was significantly improved from 4.5 1.6 to 4.1 1.4 cmH2O/L/s (P<0.05). The change of FVC significantly correlated to R5 (r=0.52, P<0.05), and BW (r=-0.53, P<0.05). The change of MVV significantly correlated to % FM (r=-0.51, P<0.05) and %FFM (r=0.53, P<0.05). In summary, the weight loss increased FVC and MVV, %FFM and decreased R5, %FM. The intervention is likely to have a positive effect on the respiratory system. Pulmonary Circulation
