Abstract:Optical fiber overhead ground wires (OPGW) is a special power cable that combines communication transmission and lightning protection. Because of its low cost, long working life, high reliability and many other advantages, it is widely used in power systems. In order to study the effect of direct damage caused by lightning, this paper designs a mechanical fixture that can exert a tensile force, and studies the lightning damage under different excitation sources. At the same time, three different lightning damage patterns are defined to quantitatively describe the degree of lightning damage. The results show that under the test conditions of a tungsten copper rod with a diameter of 10mm as the electrode, under the action of different components (A, B, C) of the lightning current, different damage forms to the OPGW strands are shown. The lightning current component C has the most obvious and most serious arc ablation effect on the strands. The lightning damage of the components B and C of the lightning current is relatively slight. The experimental results show the difference in damage of OPGW optical cables caused by different lightning current components, which is helpful to further understand OPGW's lightning damage mechanism, and can provide a theoretical basis for its test methods and standards.
