Abstract:A new rapid algorithm for hologram of three-dimensional object was presented.The algorithm can rapidly generate the point hologram and the main hologram data of different depth according to the center symmetric distribution of dot hologram.The main holographic data of other depth were achieved by zooming in/out the main holographic data of the main depth.The point holographic data were generated by shifting the main holographic of the same depth.The analysis and experimental results show that the new algorithm can effectively shorten the computing time and its speed is nearly five times faster than other algorithms.

Abstract:A new fast algorithm using the "host" Fresnel zone plate was proposed to improve the computational efficiency of computer-generated hologram (CGH) for 3D objects. By reading.3DS files, the spatial position information of each point of the 3D object was obtained directly. With the illumination of plane wave, the "host" Fresnel zone plate of a single point could be equal to all points located in the same depth plane - as the Fresnel zone plate was translated and superimposed along the horizontal and vertical axes. Consequently, the hologram of a 3D object could be built up by superimposing different Fresnel zone plates in the corresponding depth planes. For a digital object composed of 1060 points, it cost about 83s to generate a hologram of 1024*768 pixels. The CGH of 3D objects with the results of the reconstruction was presented in this paper, which proved the feasibility of this algorithm.

Abstract:A new algorithm for calculating computer-generated holograms (CGH's) is proposed. The hologram fringe pattern data is stored in the computer image format, and transmitted to a transmission-type liquid crystal panel by the video signal. It will be used for the real-time three-dimension imaging by holographic reconstruction. Questions of the effect of the solution, the contrast ratio of the liquid crystal panel and the modulation due to the gray-level of the hologram image are addressed. Therefore the distribution of the amplitude and phase on the holographic plane is determinated by confirming image plane distribution considering the above effects. The reconstructed data is made as similar as possible to the source data by the optimal code. Experimental results,and value the quality of the reconstructed image are given.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a convolutional symmetric compressed look-up-table (CSC-LUT) method to accelerate computer-generated hologram (CGH) computation based on the Fresnel diffraction theory and LUT. The proposed method can achieve one-time high-quality fast generation of color holograms by utilizing dynamic convolution operation, which is divided three processes. Firstly, the pre-calculated data of maximum horizontal modulation factor is compressed in 1D array by coordinate symmetry. Then, the test object is resampled to satisfy convolutional translation invariance. Finally, the dynamic convolution operation is used to simplify CGH computation process rather than the point-by-point computation. Numerical simulation and optical experimental results show that our proposed method can achieve faster computation speed, higher reconstruction quality and wider application compared to conventional SC-LUT method. The further optimization method for parallel acceleration on the GPU framework can achieve real-time (>24fps) color holographic display corresponding to three perspectives of a 3D scene.

Abstract:A numerical method for producing Fresnel computer generated hologram(CGH) of a 3D image using master Fresnel zone according to holographic theory is described in this paper. By reading 3DS files, the information of spatial position of various point on the surface of the three-dimentional object can be obtained directly. According to calculated Fresnel pattern from simulating physical hologram, the Fresnel zones that compose the points of three-dimentional object was superimposed. Consequently, the hologram of the three-dimentional object can be obtained. Compared to traditional holographic computation, this algorithm improves computational efficiency greatly using addition instead of exponent and multiply operation, and has the advantages of information continuum and no redundant data. To a digital object composed of 1060 points, it takes about 83s to generate a hologram of 1024×768 pixles.

Abstract:In this paper the research of the real-time three-dimensional holographic imaging system which uses liquid crystal panels to display the computer generated Fresnel holograms for reconstructed 3D images is described. The reconstructed effects are related to each step of the process and the characteristics of the devices. The contradictions between the quantization of holographic numerical data and the properties of the display device are the important reasons for the reconstruction errors. A new algorithm for calculating point holograms is proposed for reducing the reconstruction errors. Finally the original experimental result is given.

Abstract:Heavy computation load and vast memory requirements are major bottlenecks of computer-generated holograms (CGHs), which are promising and challenging in three-dimensional displays. To solve these problems, an improved look-up table (LUT) method suitable for arbitrarily sampled object points is proposed and implemented on a graphics processing unit (GPU) whose reconstructed object quality is consistent with that of the coherent ray-trace (CRT) method. The concept of distance factor is defined, and the distance factors are pre-computed off-line and stored in a look-up table. The results show that while reconstruction quality close to that of the CRT method is obtained, the on-line computation time is dramatically reduced compared with the LUT method on the GPU and the memory usage is lower than that of the novel-LUT considerably. Optical experiments are carried out to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:In this paper, a fast hologram calculation method based on wavefront precise diffraction is proposed. By analyzing the diffraction characteristics of the object point on the 3D object, the effective viewing area of the reproduced image is analyzed. Based on the effective viewing area, the effective hologram size of the object point is obtained, and then the accurate diffraction calculation from the object point to the wavefront recording plane (WRP) is performed. By calculating all the object points on the recorded object, the optimized WRP of the whole 3D object can be obtained. The final hologram is obtained by calculating the diffraction light field from the WRP to the holographic plane. Compared with the traditional method, the proposed method can improve the calculation speed by more than 55%, while the image quality of the holographic 3D display is not affected. The proposed calculation method provides an idea for fast calculation of holograms and is expected to contribute to the development of dynamic holographic displays.

Abstract:The generation speed of the Computer Generated Hologram(CGH)affects the application of holographic three-dimensional display technology.Hence,an effective and fast computation method is proposed.Through the analyzing of the traditional hologram,a lot of redundant information is found in it.The combination of spatial redundancy light wave removal algorithm and tracking of the human eyes methods determines the scope of sub-holograms.Furthermore,a method for sub-hologram that ranks contribution component is calculated by two-step algorithm is applied.Calculation of sub-hologram which ignores a large number of redundant data and application of two-step algorithm which removes redundant computation loosen the computational amount of CGH and thus increase the speed.The experimental results show that the algorithm is effective and the speed is accelerated about ten times by the two-step algorithm.

Abstract:We present a simple yet effective method to realize holographic three-dimensional (3D) display by optimizing arrangement of holograms. After a 3D object is divided into a set of layers in axial direction, these layers are calculated into corresponding sub-holograms by Fraunhofer diffraction. The hologram uploaded on SLM consists of sub-holograms side-by-side. Both simulations and experiments are carried out to verify the feasibility of the proposed method. The difference between Fresnel diffraction and Fraunhofer diffraction in the proposed method is analyzed. Aiming at the problems exposed in the experiments, reconstructed results are discussed and further improved by optimizing arrangement of sub-holograms. The process of 3D modeling is simple and the computational complexity is accordingly reduced. This method may provide a promising solution in future holographic 3D realization.

Abstract:Computer-generated hologram (CGH) is a promising 3D display technology while it is challenged by heavy computation load and vast memory requirement. To solve these problems, a depth compensating CGH calculation method based on symmetry and similarity of zone plates is proposed and implemented on graphics processing unit (GPU). An improved LUT method is put forward to compute the distances between object points and hologram pixels in the XY direction. The concept of depth compensating factor is defined and used for calculating the holograms of points with different depth positions instead of layer-based methods. The proposed method is suitable for arbitrary sampling objects with lower memory usage and higher computational efficiency compared to other CGH methods. The effectiveness of the proposed method is validated by numerical and optical experiments.

Abstract:Fast hologram generation is the key for the study on Computer Generated Hologram(CGH).In order to accelerate the generation speed of CGH,a fast scheme based on Cuda parallel computing was proposed.Firstly,the objects were sampled by means of OpenGL depth buffer,and objects points set was acquired.Then with the optimization of traditional look-up table algorithm,storage space was reduced,a short look-up table was produced offline and stored in the GPU texture memory.Finally,a reasonable parallel computing program was designed to generate CGH.The experimental results showed that the algorithm was effective and feasible,and the speed was increased by about forty times with the parallel computing technology.At the same time,the use of OpenGL provided an idea for computer-generated interactive holograms.

Abstract:Fast calculation and correct depth cue are crucial issues in the calculation of computer-generated hologram (CGH) for high quality three-dimensional (3-D) display. An angular-spectrum based algorithm for layer-oriented CGH is proposed. Angular spectra from each layer are synthesized as a layer-corresponded sub-hologram based on the fast Fourier transform without paraxial approximation. The proposed method can avoid the huge computational cost of the point-oriented method and yield accurate predictions of the whole diffracted field compared with other layer-oriented methods. CGHs of versatile formats of 3-D digital scenes, including computed tomography and 3-D digital models, are demonstrated with precise depth performance and advanced image quality.

Abstract:Computer-generated hologram based holographic 3D display is an important development direction of holographic 3D display. However, the heavy amount of calculation affects the generation speed of the holograms, which limits the further development of real-time holographic 3D display. In this paper, a fast point-based hologram generation method using high-frequency (HF) information extraction is proposed. Firstly, an image information processing method based on the Gaussian filter is proposed to separate the HF information and low-frequency (LF) information of 3D object. Then, the HF hologram is calculated by using the novel-look-up-table algorithm, while the LF hologram is calculated by the angular spectrum algorithm. Finally, the final hologram is obtained by overlaying HF hologram and LF hologram. Compared with the traditional method, the proposed method improves the generation speed of the hologram by more than 65%. Moreover, the details of 3D object can be fully reconstructed, and the quality of the reconstructed image is slightly improved with lower speckle noise. Experimental results verify the feasibility of the proposed method.

Abstract:Holographic display, as an ideal three-dimensional (3D) display method, can provide a realistic stereo-perception sense, and is expected to be used in the next generation of augmented reality (AR) prototypes without complex optical devices. While holographic 3D displays have been proposed in the past decades, high-quality holographic reconstructed images have always relied on well-designed generation algorithms, and it is still a challenge to obtain an accurate phase profile fast. In this work, we utilize a first-order optimization algorithm to optimize the phase profile using the conjugate gradient direction instead of the steepest gradient direction to update the phase parameters. We validate this proposed method by comparing the current widely used stochastic gradient method and the wirtinger holography method. The simulation and experimental results illustrate the superiority of the proposed method, which can achieve faster optimization with the same quality metrics.

Abstract:In the current research on holography,CGH(Computer-Generated Hologram),as for flexibility and ease of operation,has been discussed widely.However,there is not any ideal method for CGH and reconstruction of 3-D scene.This paper analyzes two methods to simulate the diffraction field,proposes a CGH method for 3-D scene,and accelerates the speed with the parallel computing technology.Taking the scene with four different depths as an example,the simulation results show that the algorithm is effective and feasible and the parallel computing technology accelerates the speed for four times.

Abstract:A high-resolution full-parallax computer-generated hologram (CGH) is created to reconstruct a photorealistic three-dimensional (3D) scene. Fully-computed holographic stereogram is introduced to generate the CGH, which integrates physically based method and holographic stereogram based method to produce accurate depth information as well as view-dependent effects. Accurate accommodation cue and occlusion effect can be created, and computer graphics rendering techniques can be employed in the CGH generation to enhance the image fidelity. A high-resolution hologram with 400 million pixels is fabricated by a lithography system, and the viewing angle is above 30 degrees during optical reconstruction.
