Abstract:We propose an algorithm based on fully computed holographic stereogram for calculating full-parallax computer-generated holograms (CGHs) with accurate depth cues. The proposed method integrates point source algorithm and holographic stereogram based algorithm to reconstruct the three-dimensional (3D) scenes. Precise accommodation cue and occlusion effect can be created, and computer graphics rendering techniques can be employed in the CGH generation to enhance the image fidelity. Optical experiments have been performed using a spatial light modulator (SLM) and a fabricated high-resolution hologram, the results show that our proposed algorithm can perform quality reconstructions of 3D scenes with arbitrary depth information. Computer-Generated Holograms For 3d Objects Using The Fresnel Zone Plate

Abstract:A new fast algorithm using the "host" Fresnel zone plate was proposed to improve the computational efficiency of computer-generated hologram (CGH) for 3D objects. By reading.3DS files, the spatial position information of each point of the 3D object was obtained directly. With the illumination of plane wave, the "host" Fresnel zone plate of a single point could be equal to all points located in the same depth plane - as the Fresnel zone plate was translated and superimposed along the horizontal and vertical axes. Consequently, the hologram of a 3D object could be built up by superimposing different Fresnel zone plates in the corresponding depth planes. For a digital object composed of 1060 points, it cost about 83s to generate a hologram of 1024*768 pixels. The CGH of 3D objects with the results of the reconstruction was presented in this paper, which proved the feasibility of this algorithm.

Abstract:A new rapid algorithm for hologram of three-dimensional object was presented.The algorithm can rapidly generate the point hologram and the main hologram data of different depth according to the center symmetric distribution of dot hologram.The main holographic data of other depth were achieved by zooming in/out the main holographic data of the main depth.The point holographic data were generated by shifting the main holographic of the same depth.The analysis and experimental results show that the new algorithm can effectively shorten the computing time and its speed is nearly five times faster than other algorithms.

Abstract:A high-resolution full-parallax computer-generated hologram (CGH) is created to reconstruct a photorealistic three-dimensional (3D) scene. Fully-computed holographic stereogram is introduced to generate the CGH, which integrates physically based method and holographic stereogram based method to produce accurate depth information as well as view-dependent effects. Accurate accommodation cue and occlusion effect can be created, and computer graphics rendering techniques can be employed in the CGH generation to enhance the image fidelity. A high-resolution hologram with 400 million pixels is fabricated by a lithography system, and the viewing angle is above 30 degrees during optical reconstruction.

Abstract:A numerical method for producing Fresnel computer generated hologram(CGH) of a 3D image using master Fresnel zone according to holographic theory is described in this paper. By reading 3DS files, the information of spatial position of various point on the surface of the three-dimentional object can be obtained directly. According to calculated Fresnel pattern from simulating physical hologram, the Fresnel zones that compose the points of three-dimentional object was superimposed. Consequently, the hologram of the three-dimentional object can be obtained. Compared to traditional holographic computation, this algorithm improves computational efficiency greatly using addition instead of exponent and multiply operation, and has the advantages of information continuum and no redundant data. To a digital object composed of 1060 points, it takes about 83s to generate a hologram of 1024×768 pixles.

Abstract:A new algorithm for calculating computer-generated holograms (CGH's) is proposed. The hologram fringe pattern data is stored in the computer image format, and transmitted to a transmission-type liquid crystal panel by the video signal. It will be used for the real-time three-dimension imaging by holographic reconstruction. Questions of the effect of the solution, the contrast ratio of the liquid crystal panel and the modulation due to the gray-level of the hologram image are addressed. Therefore the distribution of the amplitude and phase on the holographic plane is determinated by confirming image plane distribution considering the above effects. The reconstructed data is made as similar as possible to the source data by the optimal code. Experimental results,and value the quality of the reconstructed image are given.

Abstract:In this paper the research of the real-time three-dimensional holographic imaging system which uses liquid crystal panels to display the computer generated Fresnel holograms for reconstructed 3D images is described. The reconstructed effects are related to each step of the process and the characteristics of the devices. The contradictions between the quantization of holographic numerical data and the properties of the display device are the important reasons for the reconstruction errors. A new algorithm for calculating point holograms is proposed for reducing the reconstruction errors. Finally the original experimental result is given.

Abstract:The reproduction of computer-generated hologram (CGH) with white light source was realized using a liquid crystal panel instead of holographic film. The Burch-coding CGH was achieved by simulating the interference of a digital image and virtual reference light, displayed on liquid crystal displays and illuminated by a white light-emitting diode. The system is compact and the reconstructed images include full parallax. The full-parallax images of the Fresnel hologram computed with our algorithm were compared with the reproduced images by the rainbow hologram. Abstract:In this paper. a method is proposed to implement noises reduced three-dimensional (3D) holographic near-eye display by phase-only computer-generated hologram (CGH). The CGH is calculated from a double-convergence light Gerchberg-Saxton (GS) algorithm, in which the phases of two virtual convergence lights are introduced into GS algorithm simultaneously. The first phase of convergence light is a replacement of random phase as the iterative initial value and the second phase of convergence light will modulate the phase distribution calculated by GS algorithm. Both simulations and experiments are carried out to verify the feasibility of the proposed method. The results indicate that this method can effectively reduce the noises in the reconstruction. Field of view (FOV) of the reconstructed image reaches 40 degrees and experimental light path in the 4-f system is shortened. As for 3D experiments, the results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can present 3D images with 180cm zooming range and continuous depth cues. Abstract:Fast calculation and correct depth cue are crucial issues in the calculation of computer-generated hologram (CGH) for high quality three-dimensional (3-D) display. An angular-spectrum based algorithm for layer-oriented CGH is proposed. Angular spectra from each layer are synthesized as a layer-corresponded sub-hologram based on the fast Fourier transform without paraxial approximation. The proposed method can avoid the huge computational cost of the point-oriented method and yield accurate predictions of the whole diffracted field compared with other layer-oriented methods. CGHs of versatile formats of 3-D digital scenes, including computed tomography and 3-D digital models, are demonstrated with precise depth performance and advanced image quality.

Abstract:We propose an efficient algorithm for calculating photorealistic three-dimensional (3D) computer-generated hologram with Fourier domain segmentation. The segmentation of the spatial frequency processes the depth information from multiple parallel projections, recombining the wave fields of different viewing directions in the Fourier domain. Segmented angular spectrum with layer based processing is introduced to calculate the partitioned elements, which effectively extends the limited region of conventional angular spectrum. The algorithm can provide accurate depth cues and is compatible with computer graphics rendering techniques to provide quality view-dependent properties. Experiments demonstrate the proposed method can reconstruct photorealistic 3D images with accurate depth information.

Abstract:Computer holography is a highly complicated and demanding task when it comes to producing realistic three-dimensional (3D) display. We present a calculation algorithm for generating 3D computer-generated holograms (CGHs) which can produce multiple shading effects. Computer graphics rendering technique is introduced in the CGH computing, which determines the reflectance distributions of the object surface according to the lighting model. The CGHs are then generated using point source method and the intensities of the sampling points are determined by the reflectance properties. The ambient, diffuse and specular reflections are included in the calculation to produce realistic shading effects of the 3D scene. A phase-only spatial light modulator (SLM) is used to perform the optical reconstruction and the experimental results show that our proposed method can reconstruct 3D CGHs with multiple shading effects successfully.

Abstract:Computational holography becomes highly complicated and demanding when it is employed to produce real three-dimensional (3D) images. Here we present a novel algorithm for generating a full parallax 3D computer generated hologram (CGH) with occlusion effect, which is an important property of 3D perception, but has often been neglected in most CGH related works. The ray casting technique is introduced to handle the occlusion issue. Horizontally and vertically distributed rays are projected from each hologram sample to the 3D objects to obtain the complex amplitude distribution. The proposed algorithm has no restriction on-or approximation to-the 3D objects, and it can produce reconstructed images with correct shading effect and no visible artifacts. An optical experiment is performed to validate our approach, using a phase-only spatial light modulator to optically reconstruct a 3D scene. The experimental result confirmed that the CGHs produced by our algorithm can successfully reconstruct 3D images with full parallax and occlusion effect. Abstract:Computer-generated hologram (CGH) is a promising 3D display technology while it is challenged by heavy computation load and vast memory requirement. To solve these problems, a depth compensating CGH calculation method based on symmetry and similarity of zone plates is proposed and implemented on graphics processing unit (GPU). An improved LUT method is put forward to compute the distances between object points and hologram pixels in the XY direction. The concept of depth compensating factor is defined and used for calculating the holograms of points with different depth positions instead of layer-based methods. The proposed method is suitable for arbitrary sampling objects with lower memory usage and higher computational efficiency compared to other CGH methods. The effectiveness of the proposed method is validated by numerical and optical experiments.

Abstract:We propose an efficient algorithm using layered holographic stereogram for three-dimensional (3D) computer-generated holograms. The hologram is spatially partitioned into multiple holographic elements (hogels) to provide the occlusion effect and motion parallax by use of multiple viewpoint rendering. Each hogel is calculated with inverse Fresnel diffraction by slicing the viewing frustum according to the depth image. The sliced layers can provide accurate depth cues for reconstruction since the geometric information of the 3D scene is faithfully matched. The algorithm is compatible with computer graphics rendering techniques and robust for holograms with different parameters. When the hogel size equals 1 mm, the signal-to-noise ratio of the diffraction calculation is above 39 dB with a propagation distance longer than 10 mm. Numerical simulations and optical experiments have demonstrated that the proposed method can reconstruct quality 3D images with reduced computational load. (C) 2016 Optical Society of America

Abstract:Holographic display is capable of reconstructing the whole optical wave field of a three-dimensional (3D) scene. It is the only one among all the 3D display techniques that can produce all the depth cues. With the development of computing technology and spatial light modulators, computer generated holograms (CGHs) can now be used to produce dynamic 3D images of synthetic objects. Computation holography becomes highly complicated and demanding when it is employed to produce real 3D images. Here we present a novel algorithm for generating a full parallax 3D CGH with occlusion effect, which is an important property of 3D perception, but has often been neglected in fully computed hologram synthesis. The ray casting technique, which is widely used in computer graphics, is introduced to handle the occlusion issue of CGH computation. Horizontally and vertically distributed rays are projected from each hologram sample to the 3D objects to obtain the complex amplitude distribution. The occlusion issue is handled by performing ray casting calculations to all the hologram samples. The proposed algorithm has no restriction on or approximation to the 3D objects, and hence it can produce reconstructed images with correct shading effect and no visible artifacts. Programmable graphics processing unit (GPU) is used to perform parallel calculation. This is made possible because each hologram sample belongs to an independent operation. To demonstrate the performance of our proposed algorithm, an optical experiment is performed to reconstruct the 3D scene by using a phase-only spatial light modulator. We can easily perceive the accommodation cue by focusing our eyes on different depths of the scene and the motion parallax cue with occlusion effect by moving our eyes around. The experiment result confirms that the CGHs produced by our algorithm can successfully reconstruct 3D images with all the depth cues.

Abstract:Depth cues and full-parallax are crucial issues in the calculation of computer-generated holograms (CGHs) for perfect holographic three-dimensional (3-D) display. In order to accelerate the speed of generating CGHs and improve the display quality, three layer-oriented methods are investigated in this paper. The first method is based on angular-spectrum, which can provide accurate depth cues. The second method is based on inverse Fresnel diffraction layered holographic stereogram to provide accurate depth information as well as correct occlusion effect. The third method is proposed to generate zoomable 3-D CGHs using layer-based shifted Fresnel diffraction. Numerical simulations and optical experiments have demonstrated that the proposed methods can reconstruct quality 3-D images.
Generalized Single-Sideband Computer-Generated Holography For High-Quality Three-Dimensional Display

Abstract:Computer-generated holograms (CGHs) can be used to reconstruct three-dimensional (3D) images without optical recording of the interference pattern. The conjugate image and zero-order beam have considerable influences on the optical reconstructions in computer-generated holographic display systems based on the amplitude spatial light modulators. Generalized single-sideband method is introduced for suppressing the unwanted terms in computer-generated holography. Computer-generated holograms are calculated based on frequency filtering of the object wave, which redistributes the diffraction wave in spatial frequency domain for spectrum filtering during optical reconstruction. When the object wave on the hologram plane of the 3D scene is calculated, the single-sideband filter is addressed numerically after Fourier transform of the object wave. The filtered object wave can be calculated by inverse Fourier transform of the spectrum, and then it can be coded into the amplitude CGH. Different with the overlapped spatial frequency of the unfiltered CGH, the spectrum distributions of the object wave and the conjugate wave are located in the different sides of the spatial frequency domain with help of the single-sideband filter. By placing a single-sideband filter in Fourier plane, the conjugate image and the zero-order beam can be blocked during optical reconstruction. Since the proposed method directly processes the complex amplitude distribution of the object wave, it could be applied to various 3D CGH algorithms. Numerical simulations and optical experiments demonstrate that the proposed method is generally effective for different kinds of CGH algorithms to reconstruct quality three-dimensional scenes that are free of conjugate image and zero-order beam.
