Abstract:With the rapid growth of data in the Internet of Things (IoT), more biologically realistic and computationally efficient spiking neural networks (SNNs) have been applied to energy-efficient intelligent edge devices. Accelerators with in-situ learning function can adapt to the dynamically changing environment by adjusting network parameters. However, current neuromorphic digital computing systems usually rely on expensive SRAM for weight storage and complicated learning circuit, which constrains their deployment on resource-constrained edge devices. In this work, we proposed an RRAM-based analog-weight spiking neural network accelerator with in-situ learning function for memorizing and recognizing spatiotemporal spike trains. Then a network-level simulation for optical character recognition (OCR) task is carried out, and 98.3% accuracy (10% noise level) is achieved. 256×32 2T2R crossbar, neuron, router, and learning circuits are embedded for an area of 2.25 mm2 in 180nm CMOS, and 12.5 pJ/synaptic operation (SOP) is achieved. These results pave a way for the area- and power-efficient intelligent computing systems with wide IoT applications in the future.
