Abstract:From the marine sponge Jaspis sp., a new isomalabaricane triterpenoid 22, 23-dihydrostellettin D (1) was isolated, and its structure was established on the basis of IR, MS and extensive 2D NMR spectroscopic analysis. It is a unique skeleton compound rarely obtained from Chinese marine organisms.

Abstract:A chemical investigation of marine sponge Jaspis stellifera, collected from the South China Sea, led to the isolation of four new isomalabaricane-type triterpenoids, jaspiferins C–F (1–4). The structures of those compounds were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic methods. Jaspiferin C (1), which has the six-membered carbon ring at the side chain, was discovered for the first time from the isomalabaricane-type triterpenoids. The hypothesis of a biogenetic pathway to generate jaspiferin C (1) was depicted.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To study the chemical constituents of the marine sponge Rhabdastrella aff. distincta.METHOD:Compounds were obtained by normal phase silica gel, Sephadex LH-20, reverse phase chromatogrophy and methylation method. These structures were determined on the basis of IR, MS, NMR spectral analysis.RESULT:Eight compounds were isolated from bioactive CH3Cl fraction and identified as geoditin A (1), geoditin B (2), stellettin A (5), stellettin B (4), stellettin C (3), stellettinE (7), rhabdastrellic acid A (8) and the methyl ester of stellettin E (6).CONCLUSION:All these compounds were obtained from this species for the first time.

Abstract:A chemical investigation of marine sponge Jaspis stellifera, collected from South China Sea, led to the isolation of two new compounds, Jaspiferin A and B (1-2), and six known compounds, gibepyrone F (3), p-hydroxy benzaldehyde (4), 3-Indole-3-aldehyde (5), Thymine (6), 24(28)-dehydroaplysterol (7), (25s)-26-methylene-cholest-4-en-3-one (8). Their structures were determined by extensive spectroscopic analysis in association with physical and chemical properties, as well as comparison of their spectral data with these reported in literatures. The biogenetic transformation of compound 2 was also speculated.

Abstract:Four novel cycloartanes, named sphaerophysone A (1), B (2), C (3) and D (4), were isolated from the ethanol extract of Sphaerophysa salsula (Pall.) DC. The structures were elucidated on the basis of spectral evidence, and the stereochemistry of compound 1 was defined by X-ray crystallographic analysis. Sphaerophysone B (2) may be an artifact formed in the isolation procedure.

Abstract:Nine new isomalabaricane-type triterpenoids namely globostelletins J–R (1–9) were isolated from the marine sponge Rhabdastrella globostellata. Their structures were established on the basis of extensive spectroscopic data analysis including IR, MS, 1D and 2D NMR, and CD spectra. Globostelletins J–R are characterized by the presence of an unusual cyclopentane unit linked at different positions of sidechains. These unprecedented structures enriched a number of new skeletons in isomalabaricane family. The biogenetic relationship of the isolated compounds is postulated. All compounds were tested for the inhibitory activities against human tumor-related protein kinases.

Abstract:Sarcotragusolides A-D (1-4), four new butenolide sesterterpenes featuring a rare methyl-transferred 6/6/6-tricyclic fused ring system with a butyrolactone moiety, and echinohalimane B (8), an unprecedented monocyclic diterpenoid featuring a 2,7-ring-opened halimane-type skeleton, were isolated from the sponge Sarcotragus sp. A γ-hydroxybutenolide sesterterpene derivative (5), a new scalarane sesterterpene (7), a new subersin-type diterpenoid (10), and two known terpenoids were also isolated and identified. The discovery of sarcotragusolides C and D (3 and 4) with an unprecedented inversion of configuration implied a distinct biosynthetic pathway. The structures of these compounds were elucidated based on their spectroscopic data, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, chemical derivatization, and quantum chemical calculations. Compounds 1a, 1b, and 2 presented modest cytotoxic activities against several human cancer cell lines.

Abstract:Three new spiro-sesquiterpenoids, myrmekiones A-C (1-3), were isolated from the marine sponge Myrmekioderma sp. collected from the South China Sea. The structures of 1-3 were experimentally illuminated though comprehensive NMR spectra, X-ray diffraction analysis and calculated ECD. These three compounds possessed a special spiro skeleton. Compound 1 was characterized by a chamigrane-type structure, it is the first time to obtain the single-crystal of this type of oil compounds. 2 and 3 were a pair of diastereoisomers that possessed an acorane skeleton. This study expands the chemical diversity of marine origin spiro-metabolites.

Abstract:The chemical screening of an algae-containing marine sponge identified as Lendenfeldia species has isolated two 24-homoscalarane sesterterpenoids, including a known compound, felixin A ( 1 ) and a new analogue, lendenfeldarane V ( 2 ). The structure of 1 , obtained in a previous study, was cited for the first time in this study via single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The structure of 2 was ascertained via 2D NMR experiments and a literature review. The absolute configurations of 1 and 2 were delineated with DP4+ computation and specific optical rotation. Homoscalarane 1 exhibited cytotoxicity towards MG63 human osteosarcoma cells.

Abstract:Chemical examination of a marine sponge Xestospongia sp. resulted in the isolation of 20 sterol derivatives (1 – 20), including eight new sterols namely aragusterols J – L (1 – 3), (5α,7α,12β,22E)‐7,12,18‐trihydroxystigmast‐22‐en‐3‐one (4), (5α,7α,12β,24R)‐ and (5α,7α,12β,24S)‐7,12,20‐trihydroxystigmastan‐3‐one (5/6), and (5α,7α,12β,22E,24R)‐ and (5α,7α,12β,22E,24S)‐7,12,20‐trihydroxyergost‐22‐en‐3‐one (7/8). The structures of new compounds were determined through extensive spectroscopic analyses and chemical conversion. The sterol diversity was mainly characterized by the presence of a cyclopropane unit at side chain, while compound 4 with 18‐hydroxymethyl group was found in stigmasterol family for the first time. Cytotoxic test revealed the inhibitory effects of compounds 1, 4, and 17 against human leukemia cell line K562 with IC50 values of 18.3, 24.1, and 34.3 μm, respectively.
